Trashcan for keeping their classroom neat and clean throughout the week!
PTA News: Thank you to all our families for supporting our students in the FUN RUN! It was fun and very
successful. We have not been given a profit amount yet as sponsorship monies are still coming into the school! If you
get a chance, our class spirit posters are in the hallway and event pictures are coming shortly! Thank you
too for supporting our school at the October 10th Dairy Queen Cox Day!
Volunteers Needed: The carnival is this week and we still need volunteers! If you are available to work a shift
or help prior to the event please contact Ruth Espinoza at 799-5730. PTA is always looking for assistance to
run the popcorn machine.
Thank you to all the families who have donated items, business donations, and volunteered their time to help make our
carnival a successful event! Its going to be a fun evening for our families and kids while we are raising money for
permanent soccer goals on our field, Gym-n-yee Hoops for our two playgrounds, more Ipads for the classrooms,
and a math textbook program in preparation for the upcoming state SBAC tests.
A number of families have requested that we open the Silent Auction throughout this week prior to the
carnival evening, in the event they cannot attend. Absolutely, we can and will do this! Our Silent Auction opens
for bidding Monday, October 27th, and the bidding sheets can be found on the multipurpose room stage steps
(and will be monitored daily for accurate bidding). A listing of the auction items available are attached to this
newsletter and all winning bids will be notified Wednesday, November 5th. Auction items may be paid in cash, check, or
credit card.
Happy 150th Birthday Nevada: On October 30th at 10:00 am our students will congregate on the field to be filmed
singing Home Means Nevada and we invite all parents to join us in the celebration! Our school was signed up for a statewide event, so well see!
Monster Parade: On Thursday, yes its a very busy day of events for our school, we will have our
annual Monster Parade out on the field. Students begin lining up at 1:00, in their costumes (no violent
masks or weapons), and begin the parade march by 1:15. On that day, only the AM/PM Kindergarteners
may wear their costumes to school. We ask that all other grades and Full Day Kinder bring their
costumes in a bag to put on in the afternoon. Hair coloring is approved for that day ONLY.
Super Math Wizards: Way to go students in Mrs. Pisanos Fourth Grade Class, they participated in the national
math contest Sumdog and we were the highest scoring school of CCSD Area 3! We outscored middle and
elementary schools in our PZ10 and 13 area giving David M. Cox a Certificate of Merit! We are so proud of our
kids! Out of the top 10 competitors, 3 of those students were David M. Cox students! Congratulations to
An Nguyen, Luke Hughes, and Joey Ola!
-over for more-

Congratulations: Some of you may have seen our school on Fox 5 News this last week, one of our Resource Room
Assistants, Mrs. Sowell, was awarded a years worth of her family mortgage payments! We are so happy for her!
DREAMS Graduates: Our Fifth Graders graduated from the Hendersons DREAMS program last week and we heard
fantastic essays from Eoin OToole, Rachael Tyler, and Abby Lorren! Way to go Cox Fifth Graders!
Traveling Adventures: Our fifth grade GATE students had a wonderful learning adventure at Astro Camp
and are back with exciting stories! Our fourth graders completed their annual Hoover Dam Rafting Adventure
and learned a lot about our desert geography and our most famous national monument!
Parking Spaces are Reserved: Parents, we have some parking spaces which are designated as reserved not just for specific
staff members but also for families which have won the bids for reserved spaces and have paid a lot of money to have
those spaces. Even if its just for a quick in and out Im asking that you NOT park in those spaces. Weve had
a number of problems with those families dropping items off for their own children and a vehicle is in their spot. I
have also come back from a morning district meeting multiple times and had vehicles in my space because the driver
assumed I was off campus for the day. Please park in the unmarked spaces when coming into the lot.
November Days: Please keep watch for notices coming home, parentlink messages sent out, and the newsletters
as the month of November only has ONE full week of school for our kids. November 3-4 is a Monday-Tuesday
staff development day for CCSD, then the next Monday-Tuesday, November 10-11 is no school in observance
of Veterans Day, the following week is the only full week, then the final week is Thanksgiving Break on 11/2728.
Infinite Campus: Just learned at a district meeting, that your Infinite Campus android/apple program will not refresh on its
own. You must press the refresh button on your app to ensure youre getting the most current-updated grades. Also, please
remember that we post grades every Thursday and a student can have a different progress grade verses overall grade. One
refers to a set point in time the other refers to constant uploaded. So, a student might have had a C in one area but the most
recent made improvements and now they could be listed as a B. This just tells you that your student is making
improvements (or not) to previous performance scores. We have also asked the district if we could remove the standards from
the progress reports and parent portal (so it would look more like a secondary format) the answer was no. Please no that the
set-up, usage, and format of Infinite Campus is NOT a school-site decision. This program is a CCSD program, when
questions are asked like the one stated above, we do not have the authority to change elements of Infinite Campus at the
school.
