What is a Vision Quest?

A vision quest can bring you in touch with yourself and the spirit world in an unparalleled way.
Everyone can benefit from such a quest.
A vision quest is a rite of passage. It is primarily understood from a Native American perspective
as a "quest" for finding to find oneself and the intended spiritual and life direction. Another usage
of Vision Questing is as an initiation into a particular shamanic tradition, mostly under the
guidance of an older shaman. Though the Vision Quest is associated with Native Americans
traditions - it is practiced all over the world by many different cultures.
A vision quest may include long walks in uninhabited, monotonous areas, fasting, sleep
deprivation, being closed in a small room .
Since the beginning of this cycle of time, humanity has returned to nature to connect with spirit
and to seek answers to problems of the physical realms, especially in this timeline when the
messages of prophecy reveal themselves to the seeker.
Helpful Points
You will need to decide certain things before you start your quest. Where will you go? When will
you go and how long will you be gone? What will you ask? Where you will go is important. A

Simple Vision Quest Ritual

Find your sacred space by going outside, you will find it, listen to you intuition, ( during later
spring, be sure to keep an eye out for any signs of baby wild animals, especially bear, & badgers,
most likely you will see the animal prints, if they are in the area, respectfully leave and find
somewhere else, so you do not threaten them and become in harm.

Once you have chosen you sacred space, place everything in what will be the center. Cast
yourself a circle using flour or red brick dust, or salt ( Be careful using salt outdoors as it will kill
any plants it comes in contact with leaving a dry ring, be sure then to leave an offering for its
sacrifice if this is what you use.
Have some drumming, or other musical instrument that relaxes and prepares you to see the
other side. Or simply allow your body to relax and listen to the wilderness around you, tuning
yourself and grounding.

Elements/Quarter/Corner calls
East :Light incense - Give welcome to the Elemental, Watchtower of East, your spirit guide, ect.
South :Light a candle( or small fire),- Give welcome to the Watchtower, your spirit guide, ect.

Note: If you are using a candle, best to use a hurrican candle holder to protect from wind, and or
the lantern style hold that has the glass around.
If using a fire, be sure it is contained and safe.

West: place water of herbs on your skin, & pour wine out onto the ground, -Give welcome to the
Watchtower of East, your spirit guide, ect.

Greet the Sky, Ground and turning in all directions say:

O Great Spirit, who art before all else and who dwells in every object, in every person and in
every place, we cry unto Thee. We summon Thee from the far places into our present awareness.
Greet the North say:
O Great Spirit of the North, who gives wings to the waters of the air and rolls the thick snowstorm
before Thee, Who covers the Earth with a sparkling crystal carpet above whose deep tranquility
every sound is beautiful. Temper us with strength to withstand the biting blizzards, yet make us
thankful for the beauty which follows and lies deep over the warm Earth in its wake.
Greet the East:
O Great Spirit of the East, the land of the rising Sun, Who holds in Your right hand the years of
our lives and in Your left the opportunities of each day. Brace us that we may not neglect our gifts
nor lose in laziness the hopes of each day and the hopes of each year.
Greet the South say:
O Great Spirit of the South, whose warm breath of compassion melts the ice that gathers round
our hearts, whose fragrance speaks of distant springs and summer days, dissolve our fears, melt
our hatreds, kindle our love into flames of true and living realities. Teach us that he who is truly
strong is also kind, he who is wise tempers justice with mercy, he who is truly brave matches
courage with compassion.
Greet the West and say:
O Great Spirit of the West, the land of the setting Sun, with Your soaring mountains and free,
wide rolling prairies, bless us with knowledge of the peace which follows purity of striving and the
freedom which follows like a flowing robe in the winds of a well-disciplined life. Teach us that the
end is better than the beginning and that the setting sun glorifies not in vain.
Greet the ground say:
O Great Spirit of Mother Earth beneath our feet, Master of metals, Germinator of seeds and the
Store of the Earth's resources, help us to give thanks unceasingly for Your present bounty.
Greet the Sky say:
O Great Spirit of the heavens, in the day's infinite blue and amid the countless stars of the night
season, remind us that you are vast, that you are beautiful and majestic beyond all of our
knowing or telling, but also that you are no further from us than the tilting upwards of our heads
and the raising of our eyes.
( Light your center candle/fire) Say
O Great Spirit of our souls, burning in our heart's yearning and in our innermost aspirations,
speak to us now and always so that we may be aware of the greatness and
goodness of Your gift of life and be worthy of this priceless privilege of living.

Stare at the candle/fire until you know you can see the image with your eyes closed.

Close your eyes

See the afterimage of the candle/fire and see it moving
Examine the different layers of the candle
Look deep inside the separation between the Blue and Yellow part
Extend your consciousness into this space
Turn the space into a tunnel that goes down and to the left
After a time, stop the spiraling down and come to the bottom of the tunnel
Walk toward the right in a straight line
Now envision a light that grows into an opening
Stand at the opening and look out on the Other World
Step out when you are ready.
State your purpose to Quest for the best Life Choice
See what you see, and remember that you are safe and protected.
Return by extending your power hand and drawing a golden door and step through into your
body again.
Sit still and wait a while ( spirit guide or sign may come) and record your journey.
When you are ready release the Elements/Quarter/Corners.
Put your fire/candles out safely, practice fire safety!!!!

Herbal Water: you will want to use a large bowl to pour it out into for the ritual.

Crush the herbs before placing in the water: Bring water to a slight rolling boil, place in herbs,
take off heat, let it cool enough to put in a large glass bottle, or back into the original jug it came
in. Pour in the 100% proof alcohol or vinegar. Shake 3 times a day for 1-5 weeks storing it in a
cool dry dark place.

Loose Incense recipe for Vision Quest: This will make a FULL Batch ( for 5-10 uses) or half for
ritual incense & other half to throw into the ritual fire ( Safe none hallucinogen herb blend)
Charcoal disks will be needed.

North Offerings:
place of power is best. It should also be someplace secluded. As for the length of your quest, it
does not have to be long, just long enough. Sometimes just one afternoon will be enough,
sometimes it will be days. Ask your guide if you are not sure how long you should spend.
Remember to let someone know where you will be and how long you will be gone. Questions for
vision quests are normally major questions about your life or about very large problems you
might be facing. If you can not think of a question ask you guide for help and if you are ready to
take such a quest.
Look for signs form your guides. Subtle signs are the rule. The spirit world doesn't need to use a
sledgehammer. A bird call, a pebble formation, or a visit from an animal can all have great
weight and meaning on a vision quest. Do not worry if you get restless and hungry, you probably
will be and it will bug you. Just acknowledge it as part of the experience. Don't leave early. Stick
with it. The experience will be much more powerful.
