Introduction
TheMitsubishiMultimediaControlSystem(MMCS)isprovidedasstandardinNS/NTPajeroExceed
andsomeVRXmodels.ItprovidesBluetoothMobilePhoneconnection,DVD,GPSandgeneral
radio/CDfunctionality.Safetyprecautionsbuiltintothesystempreventtheuseofmanyfunctions
aboveapprox4kph.Thislimitationisnotoverrideablebywayofsoftwareconfigurationandhence
thedesignanddevelopmentoftheMMCSOverrideInterface.
Thisdeviceprovidestwomodesofoperation,overrideandstandard.Overridemodewillalterthe
vehiclespeedsignaltotheMMCSenablingfunctionalitynormallyavailableunder4kph;standard
modewillcausetheMMCStooperateasnormal.
Theinterfaceshouldbeinstalledbysomeoneexperiencedininstallationofelectronicdevices.This
manualoutlinesthestepsinvolvedintheinstallation.
Pleasenotethatthemanufacturer,supplieroranyoneinvolvedwiththedevelopment/saleofthis
deviceacceptnoresponsibilityforpotentialharmcausedtoexistingequipmentincludingthevehicle
electronicsincludingMMCS.Useofthedevicemaycontravenelocallawsinyourcountry/stateand
shouldbecheckedpriortoinstallation.

Toolsrequiredforinstallation
Onlybasictoolsarerequired,theseincludeeithercrimpersorsolderingiron/solderPhillipsscrew
driverandpliers.

Step1: RemovalofDash.
IMPORTANTThedashismadeofsoftplasticsandisheldinplaceusingavarietyofclipsand
wedges.Itisveryeasytodamagethedashcomponentsandgreatcareneedstobegiventothe
removalofparts.

StartwithremovingtheairventsbesidetheMMSC.Theseareheldinplacebyexpandingwedges
withsomeclips.PriseeachoffandunplugthehazardlightswitchMolexplugfromtherighthand
sideventonceremoved.

Nexttheairconditioningcontrolsneedtoberemoved,thesealsoareclipped.Carefullyremoveand
setbelowtheMMCSthereisnoneedtoremovethewiringplug.

NextremovetheinformationsystemandMMCSsurround.TakeparticularcarastheMMCSfaciais
quitethinandsusceptibletocracking.

Removethewiringplugbypressingthecentreclaspoftheplugitshouldslideoutwithoutany
force.Setthesurroundasideinasafeplace.

AtthispointtheMMCSisunscrewedandsetforwardtogainaccesstotherear.Placethevehicle
gearleverinto1st(closesttotheseat)removethe4silverPhillipsscrewsandpulltheMMCS
forward.PlaceatoweloverthegearleverandcentreconsolandplacetheMMCSonit.Beextra
carefulnottodamagetheLCDpaneloftheMMCS.

Step2:ConnectingtheInterface:

InstallationoftheinterfacerequiresthecuttingofthespeedsensorwireintotheMMCS.Thiswireis
locatedinthetop20pinMolexconnector,andiswhitewithabluestripe

LocatetheWhite/Bluewireandcutthiswithenoughroomtomakeconnectionsatbothends.
Youcaneithersoldertheinterface,orusethespaghetticonnectorsprovidedwiththekit.Ifyou
solder,makesureyouuseheatshrinktoinsulatethewires.

BeginbyconnectingtheWHITEwirefromtheInterfacetotheVEHICLESIDEoftheWhite/Bluewire.
ConnecttheBLUEwirefromtheinterfacetotheWhite/BluewireontheMMCSSide.


Step3:PositioningtheSwitch.

ThemomentaryswitchcomeswiththeMolexplugdetachedfromthe4pins.DONOTPUSHTHESE
THROUGHTHEPLUGUNTILTHESWITCHHASBEENFITTED!!!.
Locateapositionsuitablefortheswitchanddrilla16mmhole.A
recommendedpositionisbyusingtheswitchblanknexttothe
sonarbutton.Itcanbequitetrickytofittheswitchintotheblank,
butwithsomepatienceyoucanachieveanexcellentresult.

Oncefitted,theMolexplugpinscanbepushedthroughtheblankMakesuretheymatchupcolour
wisewiththemateplugfromtheinterface.Ifthewires(Red,Black,White,andBlue)arenotinthe
sameorderastheinterface,damageWILLoccur.

Step4:Power
Theinterfaceiswiredtothe
permanentlyactivesupply
enteringtheMMCS.Usingthe
REDwirefromtheinterface,
spliceontothewirethatisred
withaBackstripeenteringthe
MMCS
Ifyousolderthewires,makesure
youuseheatshrinkorsimilarto
shieldproperly.
NB:Thiswireisactiveevenwhen
theignitionisoffdonotshort
outwiththevehicleordamage
WILLoccur!!!!..

Thesecondpartofthepowerconnectionisthenegative(earth)wire.Thisistheblackwirefromthe
interfacewiththeblueloopconnectionattached.

RefittheMMCSbackintoitspositionwiththeInterfacebelowitintheareatakenupwiththeair
conditioningcontrols.RuntheinterfacewiresbehindanddowntheMMCS.Screwthetwotop
screwsoftheMMCSintoplacemakingsurethealignmentpinsarethroughtheMMCSchassis.
ConnectthebottomscrewwiththeBlueloopconnectorasshown:

Fittheotherscrew.
Step5:Final
Theinterfacecomeswithdoublesidetape
attached.Peelthisandpositionontheflat
surfaceinsidethedashandbelowtheair
conditioningcontrolsopening.Usethe
cabletieprovidedtoholdtheinterface
wiresoutofthewayandsecure.

Installationisnowcompleteandthedashcanbereassembledinreverseordertoremoval.
Testing:
Pushtheswitchsothelightisoff,startthecarandgoforadrive,whilstmaintainingaconstant
speedabove10kph,selectEqualisersettingstheadjustmentswillbedisabled.Presstheinterface
buttonsoitilluminatesthefunctionswillnowbecomeenabled.

Information:

WheninoverridemodetheGPSisunabletoobtainanaccuratevehiclespeedasitreliesonthe
vehiclespeedsensorinput.ToreturntheGPStonormaloperation,presstheinterfacebuttonsoitis
notilluminated(normaloperation)theGPSwillshortlyrecalculateitspositionandresume.
Theinterfacedrawslessthan20mAandprovidesacorrectedandregulatedsignaltotheMMCSit
hasbeenmanufacturedlocallyusingqualitycomponents.
