THOUGHTS FROM BRAD

BITS FROM BRO. DAVE

We are one week away from our annual Thanksgiving

Celebration. Its going to be a great day in the Lord
so please sign up on one of the clipboards as they are
being passed around during morning worship today.
Check out the front page for more details! Allow me to
also say thanks to those who are donating turkeys or
money towards the other meal supplies. Your
generosity is greatly appreciated.

CORRECTION: Last weeks Messenger

stated I began my time of service here in
1982. That should be corrected to 1981.
(That makes 28 years of service and 33
years of association.)

For our next Respectable Sins study, participants

should come prepared to talk about chapters 14, 15
and 16. We will bypass chapter 13 for now and come
back to it later. If you have any questions, ask me
today after worship. This past week we discussed the
sin of selfishness. I found a great paraphrase of the 1
Corinthians 13:4-6 in the Message about how
selfishness is not love. Ponder these words:

Love cares more for others than for self. Love

doesnt want what it doesnt have. Love doesnt strut;
Doesnt have a swelled head; Doesnt force itself on
others; Isnt always Me-first; Doesnt fly off the
handle; Doesnt keep score of the sins of others;
Doesnt revel when others grovel.
You and I were born with a selfish nature; just watch a
preschool child who quickly grabs a toy out of the hand
of another child when there is an ample supply of toys
in the same room. Unfortunately, even after one
becomes a Christian, he still has a battle between the
flesh which wars against the Spirit, and one of its
expressions is selfishness. Oh that we would be a
people who lived by example that we love others more
than we do self. Is there some way in you, in me,
where it appears to others that we are caring more
about self than about others? Why dont we ask Gods
Spirit to reveal that to us this week?
December 10th - Chili night at the Church. All the
fun begins at 5:15 P.M. We will have chili, as well as
spaghetti and cheese available if you so choose to
make yourself a 3-Way. If you have to ask what a 3way is then you can ask Sue Tingler. After the meal,
we will watch the comedy dvd of Tim Hawkins
favorite musical numbers. You will need to bring
your funny bone with you.
In His Service,
Brad

WEDNESDAY BIBLE STUDY: Our

study of A Brief Survey Of Old
Testament History continues each week.
This week we will begin examining the
era of Solomon and the divided kingdom.
We meet at 10:00 AM and 6:30 PM. The
same material is covered in each session.
Why not join us?
FUTURE EVENTS: I am continuing to
remind our Keenagers that the annual
Thanksgiving dinner on November 16 is
our focus for November. Our friend, Tom
Shelton, will be providing entertainment.
On that morning, Dr. David Eubanks will
be our special guest in my Sunday School
class and will be speaking at our morning
worship service.
(Take note all you
Senior Saints in the Smokies fans!) . On
December 11, we are planning a special
catered lunch for our Keenagers and
friends. Watch for a sign-up sheet to be
posted in November.
FINAL THOUGHT: Why worry about
the things you cant control? Get busy
controlling the things that depend on you.

The Scent of Lilacs
by Ann Gabhart

After the summer of 1964, life for Jocie Brooke will

never be the same.
Life-changing events rarely happen in quiet
Hollyhill, Kentucky, and when they do, they are few
and far between. But for young Jocie Brooke and
her family, they happen all at once during the
humid summer of 1964. Though on the surface
things are just fine, it seems like everyone in Jocie's
life has something they're not saying, something
they're hiding from her--and from themselves. As
Jocie digs into her family's past, she stirs up a
whirlwind of discoveries. Will she find the answers
everyone so desperately needs? Or will her
questions lead to truths better left hidden?
Combining unforgettable characters, true-to-life
struggles, and the perfect dose of humor and
nostalgia, this riveting story from bestselling author
Ann Gabhart explores the very essence of new life
and love.

WELCOME TO FIFTH AVENUE!

Fellowship and Ministry

After people begin their journey with Jesus, we will equip them to
find a ministry based upon their strengths. We want everyone to
serve in some capacity. (1 Corinthians 12:12-27) We also want His
church to be the living evidence of His love and power to the world.

How Can I Respond Today?

At FACC we look to the Bible for guidance on all
issues. We believe that Gods Word is clear
concerning what a person must do to become a
Christian.
Trust that Jesus can bring you to salvation.
Turn (repent) from the sin in your life.
Confess your desire to make Jesus the Lord
of your life.
Be baptized (immersed) in water for the
forgiveness of sins and to receive the Holy
Spirit into your life.
To make this life decision for Christ, we ask that you
come forward during our commitment song at the
conclusion of the Sunday message. Baptized believers
are welcome to become members at FACC by coming
forward on Sunday morning or by seeing our Senior
Minister to discuss this further. We ask that you
complete a series of Curious classes to help you
better understand what you are committing to as a
member. If you would like to take a Curious class,
please indicate this on your Silent Roll Call Card.

Discipleship
We do not want you to "get religion" here at Fifth Avenue Church of
Christ in Lancaster. We are all about teaching you that Jesus seeks
a daily relationship with Him through a life of obedience. In other
words, we want to see the things you are taught actually change
your lifestyle & your daily decisions.

Social Conscience
We place high value on the sanctity of human life, of Biblical
marriage and morality, and we welcome ethnic diversity (Isaiah
56:7; Philippians 2:15-16).

OUR PURPOSE

WE EXIST TO
