1 NetHASP Lock Utilities

There are four utility programs that work in conjunction with the NetHASP network
lock:
1. License Manager Keeps track of which licenses are in use.
2. RAM Security - a utility that allows you to view the number of active licenses on
the network lock and to update the lock remotely when you purchase additional
licenses.
3. Monitor - a program that allows you to view how many licenses are currently
checked out and to which computers.
4. Diagnostix a utility used to troubleshoot communication problems with a network
lock.
Please note that these utilities refer to the network lock as a key and that lock
and key may be used interchangeably throughout this chapter.

1.1

The NetHASP License Manager

The NetHASP License Manager is a program that is responsible for tracking license
usage and processing queries submitted by the protected modules of RAM International
products. This License Manager must be running on your network with a NetHASP
lock attached in order for the RAM International products to run.
During installation, the License Manager can be installed as an application or as a
service (if running Windows NT/2000/XP).

1.2

RAM Security
The RAM Security program allows you to view how many licenses of each module are
activated on the lock. RAM Security does not indicate how many licenses are currently
in use.
A shortcut should have been placed on your desktop during installation of the hardware
lock utilities. You can also start this program from the Start Menu by selecting Start Programs - Ram RAM Security.
To view or activate a module, run RAM Security and select View NetHASP Status.
Click the Create Lock ID button to create a lock ID file to send to RAM International.
Once the file is created, e-mail it to KeyUpdate@ramint.com. Upon receipt of your
lock ID file, RAMs customer support will generate a lock update file and e-mail it back
to you. Once you have the lock update file, return to RAM Security and click the

Update Lock button on the NetHASP Status dialog. The lock will be updated and the
new license information will be displayed on the screen.

1.3

Aladdin Monitor
The Aladdin Monitor is a utility that can be run from any client machine on your
network. It will search for all Aladdin License Managers on your network and display
them along with any hardware locks found. The Monitor program can be used to view
how many licenses are in use and which computers are accessing those licenses.
The Monitor program lists programs by a number. Please refer to the chart below for

1.4

Aladdin Diagnostix
The Diagnostix Utility is a diagnostic program that can help assess communication
problems with the NetHASP network lock on the local computer. If the network lock
driver and the License Manager are both installed but the workstations are unable to
access the network lock, Diagnostix can be run to help determine the problem with the
lock.
Aladdin provides online help with the Diagnostix program, but the basic operations you
will need are covered below.

To check the driver info:

1. On the System Info page, under Dongle Drivers and Services, confirm that it says
Installed next to Hardlock Drivers and next to HASP Drivers.
2. You can click on Create Report to write all the System Info to a file which can later
be sent to RAM International Tech Support.
For detailed information:
1. Select HASP in the left-hand pane.
2. On the right-hand pane, under Access Mode, select Use customized file.
3. Click Check Key.
4. The status of checking the key will be displayed in the Key Access History area at
the bottom of the screen.
The results can be saved to a file by clicking the Create Report button in the toolbar
beneath the menu. The results file, which will be called report.xml and will be located
in the same directory as the Diagnostix program files, can be sent to
support.locks@ramint.com for evaluation. Be sure to include a brief description of the
problem you are having, including the operating system running on all machines
involved.
