With its geological
beauty, inviting blue waves,
invigorating wind and amazing
windmills, undeniably, Bangui has made
an indelible mark in the tourism map
of Ilocos Norte. Today it holds ears of
innumerable tourists because it offers
not only spectacular nature adventure but
it has given another face of technology
development through the Bangui Bay
Windfarm. Thus making it one of the best
places in Luzon
| Vi brant Seabed and
Verdant Mountai ns
Bangui is a paradise 66 kilometers away
north of Ilocos Nortes capital, Laoag. One
can view the sweeping sight of Banguis
verdant mountains, the blue sea, and
the flowing river that sneaks through the
different barrios at about 10 kilometers
south of the town.
The deep and calm span of sea water is
ultimately an invigorating view . The depth
of the bay itself provides ships of ordinary
tonnage come nearer to the shoreline. The
Bangui Bay is likened to the famous Manila
Bay Sunset.
On the other hand, all you can see is
green, a majestic view of the vast verdant
mountains and lush plains below.
You'll definitely be amazed because
everywhere you stand are great views. At
the back, you can take a peek of the forest
and the mountain dividing Cagayan and
Ilocos.
|Scrumpti ous Kangkang
Experi ence
Kangkang. It sounds quirky right? Im
sure if youre a Filipino, you might think
of lewd things or you might laugh a bit as
its name sounds a bit impish in Tagalog.
The name sounds intriguing especially
to Tagalog speaking people which may
lead to green jokes but before thinking of
a club, a bar or a motel, well this place is
just another paradise in Bangui. The word
Kangkang actually is the name of a sitio in
Bangui, Ilocos Norte, which was originally a
name of a rural bird that creates the sound
kangkang.
The cafeteria is more like an open-aired
place along the towering windmills by the
bay . You could feel the strong but refreshing
sea-breeze while inside the spacious dining
areas and the friendly staff are eager
to make your casual dining experience
memorable.
Garnishing flavors of the Ilocano dishes
are just one of the many
things that they offer.
Among the food they
serve are pinakbet,
bagnet, ginataang
kalabasa, sitaw,
calamares, kaldereta,
bistek, poque-poque,
sisig and lot more
with uncompromising
quality at an affordable
price. Definitely, one
shouldnt miss their
special Kangkang Brew
which is fresh-roasted,
brewed perfectly
and with aromatic
smell imported from
Switzerland.
The place would
definitely be a perfect
getaway when one is
looking for food trip
, nature trip and just
a bonding trip with
family and friends.
|Mystifying Crystal Spring
Swish!
Hearing that refreshing sound from this
admirable paradise with make someone
giggle with excitement.
Swoosh!
That familiar sound will gradually greet
your ears, when you step into the cool water
. The cooling scenery, the misty breeze will
fondle your cheeks while the birds singing
and hovering over the trees will welcome
you in this hidden beauty . You will not
definitely regret the hike once you feel the
refreshing sensation of the environment
which is wrapped with beguiling beauty of
the spontaneous milieu.
What makes it mystifying are the hearsays
that it was guarded by supernatural
creatures and once in a year at the place
they bid sacrifices foe these creatures so
that they would keep maintaining the beauty
of this place. Some also said that those who
attempted to enter the cave and discovered
whats really inside never came back. Well
though those stories are freaky , they are
just myths.
Splash!
It is so nice to jump from the top of the
cave down to the waiting water. Thats the
precise reason why the place was called
Suacan which originated from the word
suac and Iloco word meaning to jump.
Its name Crystal Spring harmonizes the
physical faade of the place because of its
pure bluish sparkling water glimmering like
crystal especially when it is struck by sunlight
particularly at noontime. It really feels good
bathing here especially at midnoon because
the water is refreshing . Moreover, you need
not a lot of money to see this beautiful place
because you only pay two pesos for the
maintenance fee.
|Towering Windmills
The gigantic and incredible 20 beautiful
windmills or wind turbines are considered
as Southeast Asias biggest wind turbines
which were built by the NorthWind Power
Development Corporation to take its
share in reducing the emission of harmful
greenhouse gases (GHGs) causing global
warming and to accelerate the rural
electrification of the government.
Each wind turbine has the capacity to
generate electricity up to a maximum
of 1.65 Megawatts for a total of 24.75
Megawatts. Along an arc manner, the 20
turbines are lined up following the shoreline
of Bangui Bay facing the West Philippine
Sea at the northwest tip of Luzon island.
Wonder at the beauty of the windmills.
Everyone is invited to take nothing but
pictures or videos leave nothing but
footprints and keep holding on the
great memories.

Heres a conversation with Mrs. Conchita A. Arzaga who
was awarded by Civil Service Commission for being in the
service for 25 excellent years . Inthe interview of The Bamboo
Gazette , she has shared to us her personal experiences,
goals , aspirations and plans in her career most importantly
she shared her secrets for hurdling challenges in the feld of
teaching.
The Bamboo Gzette: Of all the professions , why teaching?
Mrs. Conchita A. Arzaga: There is no greater thing than to
make life - hydrating thirsty souls of students in the midst of
the vast dessert of illiteracy.
BG:What is the best reward you have received as a
teacher?
CA: Greetings, appreciations, wishes and prayers are the
inclusions on these pieces of papers. It may be weird to
treasure but they conclude my passion, my impact, my
difference and my life for years. There is no more heroic than
to be a teacher. For the past few years that we celebrate
Teachers` Day in our school, I must be one of the most
joyful teachers receiving letters, bouquets of fowers, gifts ,
greetings , hugs and sweet smiles from students belonging to
different walks of life.
BG: In your 25 years in the profession, narrate a certain
situation that you wont forget for the rest of your life as
a teacher?
CA: Being a teacher goes with versatility and fexibility.
During my frst three years of teaching at Bangui National
High School- Main Campus, I had a student named Theresa
(in her memory) in General Science I. She was a very
beautiful girl. Luckily, she had impaired vision so she always
wore eyeglasses with thick lens. I always assisted her to her
sit. She had very good assignments and works in spite of
her impaired vision. I never failed to fll her days in school
with much like and appreciation. I tried to instill the love of
learning and let her feel my simple ways of caring as a teacher
BG: What are your achievements as a teacher?
CA: As regards to schools honor and glory, I always take part
and make my very best to add colorful feathers on Banban
National High Schools hat. As a Math and Science teacher,
I teach patiently and responsibly. I encourage students to
ask questions and participate actively in all the activities
and for this kind of teaching practice, I received certifcates
of recognition and appreciation with remarkable places,
District level, Division level and had Regional and National
level qualifers. The efforts I exerted in teaching are truly
very rewarding and I always feel great for all of these.
BG:What else do you do aside from being a classroom
adviser?
CA: Being the Faculty Club President of the School and
secretary of the PTA, I actively participate in the cleaning
and greening of the school and carry out the necessary
duties and functions of my offce. As the Science
Coordinator, I lead the coastal cleaning along the Bangui
windmill farm particularly at the shore of barangay
Baruyen. As the elected Secretary of the Association of
Science Club Advisers in the Division of Ilocos Norte, I
carry out the duties and functions of my offce and show
gestures of cooperation in the conduct of the activities
in the said club.Being a teacher carries a responsibility
of shaping the community. Our Punong Barangay and
the Barangay Council chose me to be one of the members
of the Lupong Tagapamayapa at Tagapagkasundo to
apprehend communitys problems and constituents
misunderstanding and misapprehensions. In our church,
UCCP-Baruyen, Bangui, Ilocos Norte, I am the Auditor in
theChurch Council. At present, I am theNomination
Committee Chairman for the next election of
Council offcers on December, 2014. I am a
member of the Christian Women Association
BG: As a successful teacher, what advice
canyou tell theother educators especially
those who are still beginning their
journey
in the feld of teaching?
CA: A teacher s
heart is a vast
o c e a n
of stories. H e r
life is
the most
perfect treasure
todigupon. Her soul is
the greatest territory to
discover.
I love teaching and I care f o r
young citizens of the world. A s
every night I lay myself to bed, c e r t a i n
peace and elated feeling conquers my thoughts- that
I can now proudly convey that I have changed the
world. There is nothing to compare a teachers
life. With all I have right now, I am with so much
contentment and I feel like retiring. But to argue
my point, I said Not Yet for there is nothing
more wonderful than using your potential and
power to reach out people from all over the land.
As long as we breathe, we will love. And we will
live because of them- our students.
A teachers heart is a vast ocean of stories. Her life is the most perfect treasure to
dig upon. Her soul is the greatest territory to discover. I love teaching and I care for
young citizens of the world.

Heartbreaking but insightful , The Fault in
Our Stars is a brilliant masterpiece by an award-
winning-author John Green. It is a story of
exploring the funny, thrilling, and tragic business
of being alive and in love.
A sixteen year-old teen named Hazel has
a stage four thyroid cancer. Despite the tumor-
shrinking medical miracle that has bought her
a few years, her condition is terminal. Then one
day, Hazel is in Support Group when a new
boy catches her eye which is Augustus. Hazel
shares her favorite book, An Imperial Affiction,
with Augustus, and together they obsess about
the unsolved ending till they had the chance of
meeting the author to discuss the ending.
They manage to get their trip in order and take
off into the great unknown with Hazels mother in
tow. They went to Amsterdamand have beautiful
and romantic times, but when they meet Peter
Van Houten, it doesnt exactly go as planned.
When he dies, Hazel is shockedandflledwith
grief. At his funeral, though, she gives a different
eulogy than the one she had written him. At the
funeral, shes shockedtosee that Peter VanHouten
is there. She talks to himand realizes that he wrote
An Imperial Affiction because he had a daughter
who died of cancer. She also learns fromIsaac that
Augustus was writing something for her before
he died. She also learns that her mother is taking
classes to become a Support Group leader, and is
relieved that there will be life for her parents after
she dies.
At the very end, she learns from Lidewij
that Augustus wrote her a eulogy that he sent
to Van Houten. The book ends with her reading
the eulogy, which states that he hopes that shes
happy with the choices she made.
I ended up liking this book, despite the
heartbreaking scenarios. It is ultimately a tale of
star-crossed lovers. It is a tearjerker and aside
from the love story , this piece of art has made
me realized to value our lives. It is not the length
of time that we exist on this world but how we
have lived our lives.
The witty narration, its lovable hero and
heroine and twists of events will keep you
hooked on this book . It is a must read so grab
one nowand enjoy reading.

When the morning comes and the sun shines
The flower booms and birds races.
Up to our little tree house where you awaits
I let you enter and open the gate.
We went roaming around , catching dragonflies
I tried to catch the one I found ,its wings are very nice
But then when you walk and make a sound
The dragonfly flew high and disappeared in our sight.
You tap my back as you see me cry
Because of losing that dragonfly.
Then you will give me the one you caught
And will say That one is better than the one you have.
As I smile , you brought me
To the small river near the mango tree.
We sit together on a big rock where we see
Some dragonflies with different colors that flies around me.
Love bind us together , love binds as all
It makes us happy forever, it completes our soul.
There is no one more special than our best true f riends
Who loves us and stay with us till the end.
Time is fleeting so swiftly
and thus modes of reading evolves so
quickly.
When I was a child, during bedtime,
my mama used to read me a religious
book about the story of God creating his
own image and these creations perfidy with the
innocence of their pure heart because of the treachery of Satan.
It is during these moments that my soul was awakened in understanding the
world and myself. Further, it is during this times that I fell in love with reading so
I must say that the passion for reading is with a deep elated gift that my mom gave me.
From these Bible stories, I have met other printed materials that introduce amazing adventures
and took me to different dimensions and worlds with their magical stories. Big books, textbooks,
magazines, pocketbooks were just a few friends of mine that have accompanied me during my free time
or when I have the urge to be taken to another world.
Undeniably, printed materials are very useful because aside from the fact that they entertain us
they also provide knowledge that we need and they make us aware of the things going on around
us.However, with the growth of modernization and the advancement of technology, these printed
materials were over topped by change.
I adherently observed that many youngsters are not having the desire to learn more about
something on reading textbooks. That they didnt know that reading is the lying breed of book due to
the emergence of televisions, movies, and other inventions. I had once been curious about the online
reading community which was talked about by my friend. What so interesting about it?
Lots of my friends are using an application called Wattpad which might just be the biggest revolution
in reading that Ive ever heard of. Speeding up to today, Wattpad is the worlds largest reading and
writing community. Young people are getting into reading e-books on their smartphones . They are
more greatly and very interested with it because they are directly connected about the story of ones
young people life including love, acceptance, and hope . One of story that became also a blockbluster
hit is the movie Dating With The Gangster wherein Athena Dizon, a 17-year-old student, and Kenji
Delos Reyes, a rebellious teenager who is reputed to be a member of a local school Sindikato gang
began a false romance in order to spite Kenji's ex-girlfriend, and Athena thinks everything will be fine.
She slowly realizes that her life is not as steady, as her relationship with Kenji inevitably transforms
into something greater.
In addition to the new reading magazines at social media eBooks, one of it also can help people
improve their minds in reading, but these platforms may include games, apps, websites, Youtube,
Instagram, Snapchat and a multitude of innovative ways that it can also involve less concentration on
reading .That I can say we are now truly, reading in the Google age. Wattpad,eBook, are some beget
on this age.
To be honest Im one of the youngsters in this generation, always wandering around with their hands
in their gadgets reading in Wattpad instead of holding a real book. I embrace the change brought by
this technology but I make sure I dont get lost on the alluring offers by this gadgets and apps.
It is not bad to hold on to these changes. We need to cope with the new trends in reading because
we will be left behind or worse become ignorant. However, let us not just forget the value of holding a
real book and enjoying lifting the pages with our fingers though we are living in a world now defined by
advancement in technology.
he hour hand of the clock is pointing
at 9 and other hand is already at 12 . Its
time to hit the sack. But before that Nana
came to my room carrying my glass of milk.
Before she could enter , the booming sound
made the deafening silence vanished in an
instance. Came next is a cry that at first I
didnt recognize . It is a whine of a scared
little boy because of the roaring thunder.
Since I was a kid, the crashing sound
of a thunder always terrify me. The sound
brings back
memories that I
want to erase in the
deepest part of my
memory- left, kept,
unnoticed. They
always remind me of
my parents passing
away. It was one of
those rainy nights and I was in our living
room excitedly waiting for them. Then Nana
received a phone call. A call that stopped
the ticking of time and made me want to
vanish where I am. The police told my Nana
that their car was totally wrecked because it
collided with another vehicle.
That moment made me want to scream
because forever I will not be with them
anymore. I could not have made it if it was
not because of Nana. I could not have the
life to live again. I found solace in her arms.
She became my mother and father. Even
more than them actually for she
focused her whole life to me.
Right away after hearing
my bellow, Nana ran to my side
and hugged me tightly. She
stayed with me the whole night.
Her familiar smell
comforts me. As time flies,
her once black hair is now
streaked with a handful of
white hair. She is one of a kind
grandmother because she
loves action movies but hates noise
coming from our neighbours. She is very
hardworking, strict-looking but very loving
and caring. Time has made her body weak
and it has stole the youth in her.
Despite her old age, she is still capable of
doing house hold chores though often times
I would tell her to just sit down and I will be
the one to take care of . Since I was little ,
she cooks delectable viands and washes my
clothes expertly but now its my turn to do all
these things.
Nana thought me how to be optimistic .
I learned from her that
life has its twists and
turns . More than the
lessons they thought me
in school are the values
she have inculcated in my
mind. She is my mother,
father, teacher, friend
and my everything.
Be strong. God is with you. Dont let the
challenges that will come your way impede you
from doing the right things., she used to say.
Everytime time I see a lightning or hear a
booming thunder, I no longer scream nor run
because just the thought of Nana comforts
me.
She is now 60- years old but still very
able-bodied. I know there will come a time
that she too will bid goodbye but surely she
will always be there. Definitely, the lessons
she thought in me will always
be valued and that I will
carry it with me wherever I
will be.
