PROFESSIONAL OVERVIEW

Twenty-five years of participation in the Energy Management Industry, incorporating energy auditing and
efficiency upgrades, construction management, systems design, programming, installation and service in
office, research, industrial, and institutional facilities. In addition to HVAC and EMS controls, my
background includes experience in Lighting, Fire, Security and CCTV technologies. I am extremely
proficient with computers/networking and quickly learn any required applications. I have a strong
mechanical and instrumentation background, from older pneumatic control systems to elaborate
alternative cogeneration projects.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS

° As a construction manager, assisted in development, managed construction, and performed energy


management interface and instrumentation for 1 Megawatt cogeneration fuel cell installation and 1
Megawatt solar project at Santa Rita Jail (Dublin, CA.), receiving an award certificate from Energy User
News for managing “Institutional Project of the Year”.
° Recently assisted in development, managed construction, and performed commissioning of new large
diesel generator cogeneration plant and new central heating/cooling plant for Solano County
government complex (Fairfield, CA).
° Provided on-site field engineering, installation and programming for entire Sun Microsystems nine-
building campus (Palo Alto) with minimal management. DDC and mechanical startup and
commissioning of thirty 150-ton rooftop units with variable speed drives, ten DX chiller plants, eight
boiler plants, forty fan coil units, three thousand VAV boxes, and a graphic user interface we developed
on client’s Sun Sparc platform (UNIX).
° As a field engineer/technician, maintained total project ownership of various jobs, including a waste
management facility on nuclear power site in Washington State, a heat-testing lab at Apple Computer
R&D facility, clean rooms at Syntex and Genentech (BioTech), and isolation wards at Oaknoll Naval
Hospital and University of California Medical Center.

SOBE is a consulting-engineering firm in San Jose, Monterey, and Oakland with a strong emphasis of
green, well-managed energy. Working as a consultant, providing drawing reviews, energy audit reports
and onsite equipment surveys of facilities. Working with team to develop projects, and owner to develop
business.

Field Controls Engineer, Malone Controls, Inc., San Jose 2008 to


Present
Engineering/Installation of residential and commercial solar electrical systems. Installation, startup
and programming of web-enabled energy management systems and sub metering systems. Customer
training and business development.

Construction Manager/Controls Engineer, Chevron Energy Solutions, San Francisco 1998 -


2008
As a regional resource, supported multiple project teams with expertise in EMS/Controls
technologies through design, engineering, sales support and customer support. Developed and managed
client and contractor relationships. Developed and performed effective employee/customer/student
training in energy management. Developed systems to effectively monitor, verify and commission
contractor’s work. As a construction manager, responsible for all aspects of EMS, HVAC, lighting, and any
other energy-related work performed onsite.

Service Manager and Systems Programmer, C & C Building Automation, San Francisco 1996 -
1998
Managed nationwide energy management service program, including 24-hour response to warranty
and service calls for national retail chains. Dispatched local techs and national mechanical and electrical
contractors. Programmed and commissioned multiple vendors’ EMS installations. Maintained MS Access
database for billing, contact information and call tracking. Trained customers and employees in onsite
troubleshooting and maintenance.

Application Engineer, York International, Inc., San Francisco 1993 -


1996
Engineered and implemented multiple energy efficiency projects utilizing DDC control systems
(HVAC, EMS, and Lighting) and mechanical systems (central plants, DX, thermal storage, and fan systems)
in commercial and institutional facilities. Programmed graphic user interfaces in PC, MAC, and UNIX
platforms (Lab View application). Worked under minimal management and managed relationships with
general contractors.

Systems design, installation, commissioning and validation of EMS, HVAC and Fire systems in office,
hospital and research facilities. On-the-job trainer for new hires. Developed library of graphics for EMS user
interface. Team leader on medical isolation rooms, biotech clean-rooms, and fume hoods in hospitals and
biotech facilities.

2000 Certified Energy Manager (CEM) – Issued by the Association of Energy Engineers. Provides an
industry-wide standard for qualifying energy professionals in both the United States and abroad.
This certificate requires ongoing work and study.

1992 NICET Certification - Associate Engineer Level 2 - Issued by the National Institute for Certification in
Engineering Technologies. The testing for this certificate requires knowledge of NFPA and NEC
standards and practices for Fire Alarm, HVAC, and Security Applications.

1978 - 1980 Mitchell Area Technical School. Associates degree in Electronic Theory and Communications
