Governments should offer college and university education free of charge to all

students.
Knowledge should always be free but not education. Here, the statement promotes
the idea of free education throughout the college for all students. The statemen
t attempts to break free the students from their study debts, mental pressure an
d tension faced all through their student lifetime, in one attempt. Though the h
idden message carried is to only help the students in their education with no st
rings attached, it is far from being a viable option.
There are two main methods of gaining knowledge, one by experience and other by
education. Knowledge by experience is the most fundamental method, where no admi
ssion in any college is required nor any college degree, in the end all that mat
ters is knowledge. Revisiting the history chapters of our civilisation and socie
ty, we see education played a crucial role all throughout till this day. For exa
mple, research and development in science field could not have only been possibl
e by the experience of unawared people looking and collecting hints to build sui
table theory for an inconsistent set of results of practicals. It was the partic
ipation of erudite people trying to prove their hypothesis by carrying out more
specific experiments. This gave us knowledge about our surroundings, that we und
erstood by educating ourselves at the cost of others' knowledge and experience.
To give the above statement a fair chance, we should consider its motive from di
fferent point of views. Today, in our civilised society where we live by followi
ng some rules and regulations formed by the government favoured by the majority
of the people, we should infact look for the benefits of both the parties. The g
overnment runs by our tax money, which indirectly gets returned to us in someway
or the other. By cutting down the academic fees for all the students, the gover
nment might lose out its major source of income, resulting in higher taxes in ot
her areas. For example, government of Germany recently started offering free or
very neglible college fees for all students, while it may look tempting, the inc
ome tax to be payed by anyone working in Germany is approximately half of their
salary. It may seem ridiculous, the govt still needs funds to operate and mainta
in universities for thousands of local and international students attending coll
eges. So, by making education free for all we are not really helping ourselves f
rom any trouble.
Considering another point of view, let's assume the education fees is nill. Now
every student can study their favourite subjects and can passionately work in th
eir field of study. It looks like a stupendous idea until their education comple
tes. But how secure are their jobs now? Since, a large amount of people chose a
specific field of study, there is suddenly a saturation in new jobs. Students ha
ve a low chances of getting jobs in their own field and are now looking for othe
r job opportunities. Hence, there needs to be a regulation, which in this case i
s the education fees.
Nevertheless, I am aware that these reasons are not strong enough to convince to
charge high college fees for all students. There are many talented and ambitiou
s students who are unable to access higher education solely due to expensive col
lege fees, in order to also give them a fair chance, I would suggest colleges to
start offering scholarships to encourage the students to educate themselves and
help in shaping their own future. Since, education helped many gain knowledge,
we should apply that knowledge in order to cultivate the best out of us and shou
ld think selflessly.
