Operating Instructions for stirring motor R14

Read this instruction manual carefully before operating the instrument. Should there be any
additional questions, after reading these instructions, concerning the set-up, operation or

1. Unpacking:

Unpack the instrument carefully and check to see that it is not damaged. It is important that any
damage incurred in transport be recognised at the time of unpacking. Notify your carrier or
forwarding agent immediately in case of such damage.


2. Safety Instructions:

1. Make sure that the voltage printed on the machine corresponds to the voltage of your
mains before switching-on the instrument. The mains plug must be connected to socket-
outlets with earthing contact only. The protective effect must not be undone by using an
extension cord without earthed wire. Any disconnection of the earthed wire inside or
outside of the instrument represents the risk of danger. The intended disconnection of the
earthed wire is prohibited.

2. Before changing the stirrer paddle, switch-off the instrument and pull mains.

3. It is recommended to mount the stirrer on a laboratory stand. The unit can, of course also
be held by hand.

4. Protect the vessel in which you stir against rotating, shaking or moving.

5. Start the motor with the lowest possible speed and increase it up to the speed required.
Make sure that the chuck does not come into contact with the media to be stirred.

6. Only turn the motor on and off while the stirring rod is well inserted into the media that is
to be stirred.

7. Avoid splashing of liquids by using a tall vessel, lower level of liquid, or by using a cover on
top of the container. For protection of the user against splashing, dress accordingly and
use eye protection.





8. Pull main plug as a protection against unauthorised or accidental operation whenever
the work is interrupted for extended periods.

9. Due to safety and the warranty, the instrument should only be opened and repaired by
authorized service personnel. Any work on the electronics of the unit should only be done
by knowledgeable and trained personnel. Any attempt by the user to repair the unit will
cancel the warranty.

The instrument is designed in accordance with Safety Class 1, and built and tested in
accordance with DIN VDE 0700 Part 1/04.88 (HD 251 S1, Amendment 1) in connection with
design DIN VDE 0700 Part 6A8/04.89, safety regulations for electrical instruments. According to
these regulations, the unit is designed to meet the requirements for safe and correct operations.
To maintain the proper safety and operational functions of the instrument, the user should follow
the instructions and safety guidelines in this manual.


3. Operation:

1. The stirrer R14 is a convenient, robust overhead stirrer for use with 4 mm stirring rods.

2. Make sure that the voltage printed on the machine corresponds to the voltage of your
mains.

3. Insert plug into the mains outlet.

4. Place stirring rod into the media to be stirred.

5. Turn rocker switch on.

The drive motor is designed for continuous operation. It has an electronically controlled speed
from 100 - 2000 rpm.


4. Maintenance:

Due to safety and the warranty, the Stirrer should only be opened and repaired by authorised
service personnel. Any work on the electronics of the unit should only be done by
knowledgeable and trained personnel. Any attempt by the user to repair the unit will cancel the
warranty.

Important: Before doing any repair work, disconnect the mains first!

All bearings of the stirring motor are sufficiently lubricated so that with careful handling no
maintenance is necessary. Should problems occur, please send the instrument to Marienfeld or
your agent.






5. Warranty:

Paul Marienfeld GmbH & Co. KG provides a guarantee for a period of 24 months from date of
delivery for the instrument purchased by you. This warranty applies only to defects in material or
workmanship. There is no warranty for defects or malfunctions caused by neglect, improper use
or improper service.

In case of defects in material or workmanship, the instrument will be repaired or replaced. In
case of replacement, the warranty for the new unit will persist for the remaining period of the
primary warranty period. Charges for returning the instrument have to be borne by the customer.

Any claims regarding guarantee and liability are limited to professional and proper use of the
instrument and observance of the general safety instructions and this instruction manual.

Paul Marienfeld GmbH & Co. KG is not liable for any material or personal damages caused by
improper use and does not accept liability for consequential damages.
