Fall has ar-

rived at Port Clinton

Yacht Club as we
watch the leaves fall
gently to the ground
and the boats slowly
disappear into winter
storage. November
will be a busy time at
your club beginning
with great food, mu-
sic, and probably
some beer consump-
tion at the 25
th
anni-
versary of our Okto-
berfest on Saturday,
November 1
st
. Please
join the Annual
Meeting on Thurs-
day, November 6
th
at
8:00 pm. The Social
committee will pro-
vide food before the
meeting. There will
be FNSs on the 7
th

and probably a few
members will show
up on Saturday, No-
vember 8
th
to watch
the OSU-Michigan
State football game. I
would like to extend
a sincere invitation to
all members and es-
pecially our Past
Commodores to join
us at this years Com-
modores Ball on Sat-
urday, November
15
th
. This will be an
entertaining event for
all to enjoy. Its not
too late to join in the
Dancing lessons at
PCYC on Tuesday
nights at 7:00 pm to
learn the Polka for
Oktoberfest and the
Swing and Foxtrot
for the Commodores
Ball (contact Ann
Duez). We close the
month with Burgers
in Paradise on the
21
st
, two more foot-
ball weekends and
the Christmas Deco-
rating event on the
30
th
.
There are a lot
of our members in
the news from poli-
tics to high school
sports. Early voting
has started and Elec-
tion Day is Tuesday,
November 4
th
. I
watched Emma Eick-
ert qualify for Second
Team SBC Cross
Country the other
weekend, Great job!
We have sons,
daughters, grandchil-
dren participating in
numerous area sports
teams who are doing
really well this fall.
The Final Results for
the 2014 National
Trophy Rifle
Matches at Camp
Perry were recently
published. There
were many photo-
graphs of COL Bar-
bara Herrington-
Clemons (Camp
Commander) present-
ing Match Awards.
John Folger and I
were not in the pho-
tographs. Unless
there was a mistake
in the printing your
Commodore was not
out scored by he who
will not be named
again. However,
placing 778 out of
1075 is probably not
something to talk
about. Next year we
plan on practicing
before participating.
After the No-
vember Annual
Meeting, 2015 dues
statements will be
mailed out along with
a letter from the So-
cial Committee.
Please fill out the in-
formation requested
by the Social Com-
mittee so that they
can begin their diffi-
cult work on the
2015-2016 Yearbook
and Social Calendar.
If you were unable to
attend the Fall Work
Party we always have
projects that we need
help on. Just let Fa-
cilities Manager
Chuck Reichman
know when you are
available.
VOTE, enjoy
November, and come
to the Commodores
Ball!!

November 2014
Fall weather is now in full
swing, but there are many days
yet to enjoy the views from the
outside areas of our club
grounds. Soon we will be win-
terizing our marina and north
shore heads. Please make sure
that your dock areas are cleaned
up of any items outside your
dock boxes when your boats are
removed for the season.
We just completed our Fall
Work Party. Thanks to those
who came to work. We had more
than 56 members and spouses
show up for this event. Since we
are a working club, we are de-
pendent upon our members par-
ticipating in our fall and spring
work parties. We still have
many items to complete so
please contact PC Chuck
Reichman, Eric or me personally
if you have time to donate.
Several projects are still on our
agenda to complete before the
end of the year. The board has
approved replacing the back
door of the ballroom and enlarg-
ing it for better access for events,
and also replacing the back door
in the rear hallway. The board
also approved renovation work
on the river side of the care-
takers house. We will be re-
moving the old upper porch ad-
dition and returning it to the
original dormer configuration.
One other item that we have
been working on is our pool that
was constructed in 1969. Due to
its age there are issues that need
to be addressed. We are consult-
ing with some experts to come
up with our best solutions to re-
solve these issues and keep it
functioning for many years to
come. We will keep you up-
dated as we get more informa-
tion.
Dont forget to attend the annual
membership meeting scheduled
for Thursday November 6
th
at 8
pm. We will be serving food
prior to the meeting, so get there
early.
As I conclude: This is your
club, Use it and have fun.
Hope to see you at the club,
RC Doug

Special Jr. Sailing achievement news
Local ILYA Sailors win National Event
Congratulations to Doug Blackburns son
Drew along with fellow UT sailors in-
cluding former North Cape Jr. sailor
Colin Mackay who won the Storm Try-
sail Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta
sailed in Western Long Island Sound.
The team from the University of Toledo
sailing the Express 37 Troubador was the
overall winner after scoring 3- 1sts and 2-
2nds over the Oct. 11-12 event. As a
result of the overall win the team from
the University of Toledo has won an all
expenses paid trip (except for air fare) to
the 47
th
EDHEC Sailing Cup in la Ro-
chelle, France to be sailed in April, 2015.
This event is the largest college offshore
sailing event in the world. If anyone is
interested helping the UT sailors show-
case our local Lake Erie sailing talent
please go to: http://www.gofundme.com/
UTsail2France.
Looks like the majority of the boats
have been stored for the win-
ter. This can be a sad time for
many of us, but I feel as if this
makes us appreciate the boating
opportunities that we have even
more.
I would like to thank everyone again
for their support and participa-
tion. This is what made the 2014
"Cruise Outs" such a success. I
have started the planning for next
year an as always would appreciate
any input or suggestions.
Happy Boating,
