M-3904B Remote Monitor Module
Description
The Remote Monitor Module provides a practical solution to remote monitoring requirements and panel mounting
space constraints. The Remote Monitor Module that Beckwith Electric employs is the Micro OIT Message Display. The
OIT is pre-programmed by Beckwith Electric to access the monitoring and status features of the following Beckwith
Electric Integrated Protection System relays:
Product # Integrated Protection System Relay Remote Monitor Module
M-3425A Generator Protection Relay M-3904B
Table 1
Pre-Programmed Software
Each OIT unit is pre-programmed with the monitoring features and status functions of the corresponding protection
relay. For example, the M-3904B Remote Monitor Module, which is used with the M-3425A Generator Protection
Relay will initially display a mimic of the Breaker ON/OFF (Brk), Oscillograph ON/OFF (OSC), Target ON/OFF
(TGT) and Time Sync ON/OFF (IRG) LEDs located on the front panel of the remote relay. From this initial display
the user can advance to either the V, F, V/Hz, Current, Power and Impedance Display Groups to access
real-time metering parameters or the Triggered functions and Reset Target LED Display Groups that display the
relay targets and allows the user to reset the targets. Figure 1 illustrates the M-3904B menu structure.
STATUS Display Groups
Four Display Groups, V,F, V/Hz STATUS (voltage, frequency, Volts per Hertz),CURRENT STATUS, POWER STATUS
and IMPEDANCE STATUS allow the user to chose the real time status monitoring parameters to be displayed.
V,F, V/Hz STATUS includes:
Phase Voltages Neutral Voltages Sequence Voltages
Frequency Rate of Change of Frequency Volts/Hertz
CURRENT STATUS includes:
Phase Currents (Generator) Neutral Current Phase Currents (Neutral)
Sequence Currents Differential Currents Ground Differential Current
POWER STATUS includes:
Power Factor Real Power Reactive Power
Apparent Power
IMPEDANCE STATUS includes: Field Insulation
FUNCTION TARGET Display Group
The Function Target Display Group presents the user with the capability to view FUNCTION TARGETS.
RESET TARGET LEDs allow the user to reset targets. If RESET TARGET LEDs is selelcted, then the user is prompted
to input a 0 or 1 to affect the reset command.

M-3904B Remote Monitor Module
B-1268 Cable Connector Kit
Each unit includes a 25 foot B-1268 Cable and Connector Kit. The Remote Monitor Module can interface with the
protection relay through either the RS-232 or RS-485 port on the relay. Cable orientation and pin assignments are
illustrated in Figure 2. The relay Com Port must be congured to utilize the MODBUS protocol and have the Comm
Delay setting for COM2 set to zero.
