Chile has some of the highest levels of solar radiation in the world, especially in the Atacama region. There are currently 22 approved solar projects in development in northern Chile representing 1,418 MW of capacity and $4 billion in investment. An additional 17 projects are under evaluation representing 2,052 MW and $7 billion in investment. Fundacion Chile works to promote solar energy development through initiatives like RedSolLAC, a network that shares information on solar stakeholders, resources, technologies and projects to facilitate cooperation across Latin America and the Caribbean. The Atacama region has among the highest levels of solar radiation globally and represents a major opportunity for solar energy generation.
