In Local News..
New Jerseys long-term unemployment rate is one of the countries worst.
Almost Half of Jobless New Jersey residence are out of work for over six moths, which
ranks it one of the worst in the country according to a new report. A national survey
conducted by Rutgers University in September found that almost half of unemployed
workers who did find jobs were being paid less than their old position. The president of
New Jersey Policy Perspective simplifies the problem, saying The reason is pretty
plain: we havent produced enough jobs for people who are unemployed to fill over a
long period of time. In order to combat the unemployment problem, the state
Department of Labor and Workforce Development has created many websites dedicated
to finding jobs including OnRamp and Jobs-4-Jersey.

Two colliding buses took the life of a two-year-old girl, and injured many others on
Sunday afternoon while pumpkin picking at Alstede (ALLSTEAD) Farms in Chester.
The accident happened when one shuttle bus rear-ended another, pinning the victims
between two vehicles. One little boy, according to his mother, was saved by his stroller,
which helped block him from the bus. Over the years the farm has come under much
scrutiny from local residence due to the traffic problems caused during harvest season.
This year they had implement new traffic and parking plans in response to the past
complaints, but according to a local it was still an accident waiting to happen.
Citizens have been nothing short of supportive for the grieving family during this
tragedy; an online donation page set up in support of the little girl has raised more than
34,000 dollars as of Tuesday evening.

Climate change is now a threat to national security

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel stated Monday that climate change is now considered a
national security threat. He spoke of the issue during his speech in Peru, as the pentagon
released a report on the national security threat posed by rising global temperatures. The
report pointed out four areas of climate changed that seem to be the most threatening,
these were rising global temperatures, changing precipitation patterns, more extreme
weather and rising sea levels. Hagel argues that the changing of weather patterns could
spur more natural disasters, and increases in food, water and electricity shortages.

A US company has created a way to monitor entire neighborhoods by using a technology
originally used for the recent Iraq war. While most police agencies are excited to see
some of this technology in use, privacy campaigners look at it as a threat to constitutional
rights. The Persistent Surveillance Systems say it is able to view and record everything
happening on the ground across 25 square miles. While it wont be able to actually
recognize the culprit of a crime, it will be able to track the move of a criminal fleeing the
area. A senior attorney with the Electronic Frontier foundation finds the whole thing a
threat to privacy. Saying the system encroaches on peoples privacy, tracking the
movements of whole communities poses a threat to democracy. Despite many citizens
worries about the abuse of such technology, PPS insists it adhere to a strong privacy
policy.

Kentucky state university president Raymond Burse has given up 90,000 dollars worth of
his salary in order to give his lowest paid employees a raise. By taking the cut from his
350,000-dollar salary, 24 of employees got a raise of over three dollars. I think it will
be impactful, how impactful, I dont know said Burse, adding, this is not a gift, it is an
investment, I expect these people to work hard.

In International News..

Treasure hunter Derek McLenna has just discovered Viking Treasure dating back to over
1,000 years with a metal detector in Scotland. Amongst the objects is a silver cross that
is believed to date back to 9
th
century, and several other objects that were likely to have
been 100 years old when they were buried. As experts examine the treasure, it is clear
that this is one of the most significant Viking hoards ever discovered in Scotland. This is
not the first time Derek has discovered something important for Scotland, just last year he
discovered around 300 medieval coins in the same area. The Vikings have being well
known for raiding the shores of Scotland in the past, burying the valuables for
safekeeping, which have gradually been discovered by generations of treasure seekers.

The death rate from Ebola has jumped from 50% to 70%, the World Heath
Organization confirmed Tuesday. Assistant Director-General Dr. Bruce Aylward (AlE-
WORD) said out of the almost Nine Thousand cases around Forty Five Hundred People
have died. Over the last four weeks there have been about One Thousand new cases
each week, and may even be up to Ten Thousand new cases by December. The agency
has said it is still trying to isolate and treat the infected quickly, other agencies need to
step their efforts up in the next sixty days or many more will die.

Exciting start to the season for Jersey Hockey Fans..

The Devils get another win against the lightning last night in a 2-1 victory. Mike
Cammalleri got his first game-winning goal as a devil, making the devils record 3 -0
going into their game against the Capitals tomorrow night.

In more Hockey News the Islanders have defeated the Rangers the past six times theyve
played at Madison Square Garden, in their 6-2 victory over the Rangers last night.

New York Giants quarter back needs to give his team a fiery kick start going into after
the devastating loss to Philadelphia this past Sunday. Dallas has been on streak in a trek
to be the rulers of the NFC East and the Giants need some serious leadership from their
quarterback if they are going to defeat them this Sunday.

In Entertainment..
The Coen brothers have just announced over the weekend a sequel to their cult classic
The Big Lebowski. Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, and Julianne Morre are all expected to
reprise their roles in the sequel along with Bill Murray being added to the cast. Gage
Luce who helped write the script for the sequel, gave us a little bit of incite to the new
plot explaining, Now 17 years later, Maude Lebowski informs The Dude that they
conceived a son together and that he has been kidnapped. The Dude teams up with his
crew to track down the childs whereabouts. Luce guarantees it with have just as many
laughs and excitement that made the first one a classic and hopes to draw in a newer
audience as well.
