A survey of 801 Texas residents was conducted between October 8-14, 2014. The survey included questions about the direction of Texas, economic conditions, causes of poverty, and the role of government in reducing poverty. Key findings included: 50% thinking Texas is going in the right direction, 53% believing individual actions are a greater cause of poverty than outside circumstances, and 58% believing government efforts have increased the number of people in poverty in Texas by making people dependent on government assistance programs.
