Talk about it (before the lm)
This lm is part of TheCinema of Childhoodstrand of the Into Film
Festival. Do you think it is important to tell stories from a young
persons point of view?
Talk about it (after the lm)
Joey and Lennie are left alone for the night by their mother and
are allowed to play in the street with their friends. Do you think
children today have the same freedoms? What would happen
today if a little boy ran away for a night?
Once he reaches Coney Island Joey doesnt speak very often,
how do the sounds of the setting and the use of the camera help
us to understand what he is thinking and feeling?
Why do you think Joey decides to go to Coney Island? What
does he do when he gets there? Can you tell anything about his
personality from the things he chooses to do?
Does it remind you of any other lms - the story, setting,
characters, the way it is lmed or edited, the music or sound?
What are the similarities?
Write about it

other lms its like, describe what you particularly liked or disliked and
give it your star rating.
Extension activities:
Imagine you are allowed to do whatever you like for a day at the
beach or funfair. Try to make the activities into a short story with a
beginning, middle and end. What problems might you face during the
day? How would you get round them? Use the Into Film lmmaking
resources to help you: www.bit.ly/PrimaryFilmmakingGuide

After his brother tricks him into thinking he
has committed a terrible crime, Joey runs
away to the seaside. Once there we follow
him as he forgets his troubles and and enjoys
a great day out, leaving his big brother to
search frantically for him. This charming lm
wonderfully capture the sense of being a
child on adventure in the world.
