Science/ Science Understanding

Water is an important resource that cycles through the environment

(ACSSU222).

Students investigate the water cycle and explore different states of
water and look at how human activities impact the water cycle in our
environment

Mixtures, including solutions, contain a combination of pure
substances that can be separated using a range of techniques
(ACSSU113).

Students investigate how we use different separating techniques like
filtration, decanting to purify water.
Science/ Science as a Human Endeavor
Science knowledge can develop through collaboration and connecting
ideas across the disciplines of science (ACSHE223)

Students explore that how water use and management is dependent on
knowledge from different areas of science, and involves the application
of technology
Science understanding influences the development of practices in
areas of human activity such as industry, agriculture and marine and
terrestrial resource management (ACSHE121)

Students investigate that understanding of water a resource influence
the human practices in order to save water.

Science and technology contribute to finding solutions to a range of
contemporary issues; these solutions may impact on other areas of
society and involve ethical considerations (ACSHE120)

Students understand that because of the awareness of water shortage
by science, people are more inclined to find solutions for this problem so
that our future generations dont suffer.
Science/ Science Inquiry Skills
Communicate ideas, findings and solutions to problems using scientific
language and representations using digital technologies as appropriate
(ACSIS133)

Students present their findings and possible solutions for water
conservation in a form of a Prezi for the audience to view.

Identify questions and problems that can be investigated scientifically
and make predictions based on scientific knowledge (ACSIS124)

Students understand the issue behind conservation of water and use
their scientific knowledge to make their decisions.
Maths
Statistics and Probability

Identify and investigate issues involving numerical data collected from
primary and secondary sources (ACMSP169)

Construct and compare a range of data displays including stem-and-
leaf plots and dot plots (ACMSP170)

Number and algebra
Compare, order, add and subtract integers (ACMNA280)

English
Writing
Consolidate a personal handwriting style that is legible, fluent and
automatic and supports writing for extended periods (ACELY1727)

Use a range of software, including word processing programs, to
confidently create, edit and publish written and multimodal texts
(ACELY1728)

Speaking and Listening
Reflect on ideas and opinions about characters, settings and events in
literary texts, identifying areas of agreement and difference with
others and justifying a point of view (ACELT1620)

Plan, rehearse and deliver presentations, selecting and sequencing
appropriate content and multimodal elements to promote a point of
view or enable a new way of seeing (ACELY1720)
Cross- Curriculum Priority
As referenced from the AusVELS Curriculum, sustainability addresses the
ongoing capacity of Earth to maintain all life. Students will investigate the
importance of global sustainability as a result of individual and community
measures. It is important for students to grasp the concept that sustainability
must allow the present population to meet their living standards without
compromising or hindering any future generations from being able to
complete a similar task.
