Pre-Algebra
Divisibility Rules
n A number is divisible by n if and only if Examples
2 it is even,i.e it ends with 0,2,4,6 or 8 16(even because it ends in a 6)
18(even because it ends in a 8)
3 sum of digits is divisible by 3.Apply
test multiple times if needed 42(2+4=6)
948(21,then 2+1=3)

4 the number formed by last 2 digits 332(324=8)
is divisible by 4 1908(084=2)

5 It ends in a 0 or 5 905(ends in a 5)
384,180(ends in a 0)

6 It is divisible by both 2 and 3 36(it is even and 3+6=9)
948(it is even and 4+8=12)

7 Double the last digit and subtract it from the 868(8*2=16=>86-16=70=>707=10)
rest of the number. If the result is divisible by 7, 2,345(5*2=10=>234-10=224=>4*2
so is the original number. You can do this as many =8=>22-8=147=2)
times as u want.

8 The number formed by its last 3 digits is 92,104(1048=13)
divisible by 8 727,520(5208=65)

9 Sum of digits is divisible by 9 2,385(2+3+8+5=>18,18/9=2)
89,487(8+9+4+8+7=>36)

10 Ends in a zero 370(ends in a zero)
345,980(ends in a zero)
11 Lets just skip this, shall we?
12 Lets also skip this because I don't understand it either!
NOTE: Please do not divide zero by itself

Pre-Algebra
Prime Numbers
Definition
A Prime Number is a natural number(i.e. positive number,1) that has no other factors other than
itself and 1.
A Composite Number is any number that is not a Prime Number
Prime Factorization
The prime factorization factors a number until the only factors are prime. In mathematical
convention, this is written as the order of the factors from least to greatest with repeating factors
written as exponents.
Examples:
40=

330=
637=

Deriving A Prime Factorization
You can use the Factor Tree Method
In which you find factors of the starting number
Then, you find factors of the factors.
Then you find factors of those factors.
Heres how it looks:
Find the Prime Factorization of 126
We find the Prime Factorization of 126 by finding the factors of
its factors and stopping when the reach a prime
number.3,3,7,and 2 are all prime numbers. If we multiply
them,we should get 126:

However,it is not written in correct notation from Least Prime
Factor to Greatest Prime Factor,as well as the repeating 3 which
should be in exponent notation:

Now,it is in correct order and notation and we are finished!

Pre-Algebra
GCD & LCM
Simple methods for finding the Greatest Common Divisor and Least Common Multiple
Both involve listing a table of Prime Factors. They are best illustrated by example.

Least Common Multiple (LCM)
