AS$EMBLY IIISTRUGTIOI{S 1 . Assemble per parts layout (Figure 1), parts list and schematic (Figure 2) using resin or rosin core solder only. (Acid core solder or acid fluxes will ruin the kit.) 2. lnstall diodes D1 to D4 observing cathode band for correct placement. Notice that the cathode of D3 and D4 is pointing toward the bottom of the board and the cathode of D1 and D2 toward the top. 3. Install the resistors per parts layout, parts list and color code. lnstall also the pigtail fuse F1. 4. Install the electrolytic capacitors C'l and C2 observing polarity. The negative lead of the capacitor is the shortest one. 5, Install LED L1 with the flat side ol the lens (and the short lead) in the direction indicated by the black half moon in the parts layout. 6. Installthe heatsink, using the provided boltand nut, in the tab of transistor 01 as shown in Figure 5. Then installtransistor Q'l to the board with the tab and heatsink in the direction shown in the parts layout. .7. Cut the provided wire into six equal pieces. Install potentiometer P1 to the board, as shown. Also connect two pieces of insulated wire to the DC outputs of the power supply (+ and - points on parts layout.) 8. Install transformer T1 to the board. Make sure that the transformer is positioned as in the parts layout, making sure that the color of the wires are in the correct location before soldering. After soldering, aftach the transformer to the PC board using the supplied double stick tape against the transformer's metal laminations, 9. Connect one lead of the line cord to the PC board and one lead of the line cord to the switch. Now use a piece of wire to connect the other lead of the switch to the PC board as shown. 10. Before testing REMEMBER to use extreme CAUTI0N when using a kit that connects to the AC line, like this one. NEVER use itsutsides+near vrater and alwaysmount theentirc*it insideraloodenor plastic-(insulated) boxtogeventany contaet with the AC voltage. Testing: To test this project, set the 0-12VDC Power Supply 0n an insulated surface and plug the line cord into an AC outlet. The LED L1 should light, Now connect a DC voltmeter to the DC outputs and rotate the shaft of potentiometer P1 from one side to the other. The output voltage should vary between 0 and approximately 19 volts without load. In normal operation the transformer, resistor R2 and transistor Ql will get hot and potentiometer P'l will get warm. This power supply is prstected from a temporary shortcircuit on its outputs and will supply over 100mA at 12 volts and 200mAat 9 volts or less. lt is ideal for powering most small battery operated electronic devices.
