Churchill's Iron Curtain Speech

After the Second World War ended the allies were together until The
Curtain Speech. This speech changed the way the democrat countries
(specially the US) saw the Soviet Union (communism). The two ideologies
started to impact the relationships between the countries. The Soviet Union
wanted to control and the US had shown power, so latter on every act can
cause war, the tension begun.
Marshall Plan
With this loan to the European western countries the US showed the power.
The Soviet Union saw a thread in the US, causing tension. Also with this
loan to the democratic countries, the difference was marked between the
communism. The US gained power and more allies in Europe, that later
helped the US during some Cold Wars events.
Yalta and Postman Conference
During this events the division of Germany was made between France, the
US, the UK and the Soviet Union. This division also was a division of
ideologies, was communism and was democratic. This division later
contributed to the Wall of Berlin, one of the events that marked the Cold
War.

is the fact that the USA had just used an atomic bomb which meant that they had arms that
could be used in case of any problem. That was a big threat to the USSR.

Korean War
The Korean War, a war between two different ideologies (communism and democracy)
contributed tremendously to the big rivalry between the U.S and the USSR. The US knew the big
thread the communism was, the US wanted to stop the expansion of it. The US supported the
south and the USSR and Chine the north. Nowadays the division still exists, showing that neither of
the sides was and is willing to surrender.
NATO and Warsaw Pact
NATO a treaty between the US and Western European powers, and the Warsaw pact between the
USSR and its allies was a clear message of strength and showing they were ready to attack. The
Warsaw pact was a response to NATO, showing one to another their alliances during the tension
of the Cold War. This pacts contributed to the division of East (Warsaw Pact) and West (NATO)
Germany.
The Berlin Wall
The Berlin Wall was one or the most representative events of the Cold War, because it clearly
shows the two very different ideologies and how they cant coexist. The West side economy was
increasing and the life of the people was way more better that the communist east side. The east
side show the oppression of the communism, causing the people living there wanting to flee to the
west side. The USSR was very damaged by this because they were losing people and really affect
them and the tension grow and the west side cannot take more refugees
Cuban missile crisis
The missile crisis was the climax of tension during the Cold War. When the US discovered that the
USSR had nuclear weapons in Cuba panic invade the US. The proximity of Cuba and the US was
very alarming and the military force set their red lights. The USSR showed the US that they also
had power, this was a response to the US missiles on Turkey. After Nikita Khrushchev accepted to
remove the missiles from Cuba peacefully and the US from Turkey, both sides kind of relax, but the
message was clear and still there: Both sides were ready.
Chinas Cultural Revolution
The Cultural Revolution was led by Mao Zedong, he wanted to take China
to another direction, he wanted to make communism stronger, everyone to
be equal. This revolution was between communisms, we can see this war as
good and bad for communism. Good because it was making it stronger
with Maos ideas and the expansion could be bigger. On the other side this
showed that the communism wasnt unified, there were different ideas.

Vietnam War
The Vietnam War was also a fight between the US and the USSR out of their
territories. Each country supporting its ideologies and trying to expand
them. The north supported by the USSR and China had superiority on
weapons, while the south supported by the US was weaker. By the end of
the war the north invaded the south showing the force of communism. The
communism was gaining territory and force. This showed to the US the
thread communism was.
Fall of the Berlin Wall
This event is crucial to the Cold War, was one of the events that help the
war to end. The communist side was in terrible conditions they wanted to
go to West Berlin. For the communism this was a sign of weakness, this
show that the communism was starting to lose power. The imposition of
communism in Germany didnt work, after Berlin and Germany reunite
they adopt democracy and capitalism. This led to the fall of the USSR,
because it showed that communism wasnt working.
Afghanistan War
This war also showed that the imposition of communism in countries
wasnt working and the democracy was gaining force. The USSR showed
that they were getting weaker and weaker. After the Soviet Union surrender
was one of the indicators that the USSR fall was just around the corner.
Fall of the USSR
The Fall of the USSR was meanly caused by the movements of
independence in the territory, and the fall of communism in countries like
Germany and Afghanistan. The USSR had a lot of economic problems and
all of its power was almost gone. With the USSR losing its force the end of
the Cold War was there, the communism was very weak, and the
democracy and the US were now the worlds power. This power still
nowadays.
Gulf War
This war between Iraq and Kuwait was caused because Iraq claimed of
stolen petroleum. The US intervened showing its power to all the world.
This event wasnt crucial to the end of the Cold War, this more like a
consequence of it. This event showed what the US become latter on, the
Police of the World. The US getting involved in many conflicts that
wasnt theirs. This particular war was on the interest of the US because of
the petroleum.
