PLEASE SUBMIT TYPE-WRITTEN RESPONSES TO THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS:
1. The Factotum position is a demanding and rewarding job that requires working with faculty, working and living with students, assistant-teaching a college-level seminar, managing budgets and deadlines, and serving as an authority figure for teenagers. In a 1-page cover letter, please describe your academic and extracurricular activities and how they relate to your interest in a factotum/tutor position.
2. In 500-750 words, please describe a time when you faced a conflict in the role of an authority figure. Describe how you worked to resolve the conflict, what the outcome was, and how you assess your performance.
3. The Telluride summer programs are characterized by their emphasis on community life and service, intellectual inquiry, and self-governance. How can a factotum promote or foster these ideals? As a factotum, how would you judge whether your TASP or TASS was achieving its goals? Please use specific examples. (If applying to both programs, be sure to discuss the differencesif anywhich you see between the two positions.) Your response should not exceed 750 words.
4. Answer question (A) if applying to the TASS or question (B) if applying to the TASP, but answer both if applying to both programs.
A. TASS: Discuss your interest or background in studying critical black and ethnic studies. This background can be experience in a particular area study (i.e. African American studies, Latino APPLICATION MUST BE RECEIVED ON OR BEFORE OCTOBER 15, 2014
studies, etc.) or other comparative studies and related fields. Also discuss your experience working with underrepresented groups in the U.S. Rank the sites (IU or UM or CU) at which you would like to work and explain the reasons for your preferences. Please state whether there is a site at which you would rather not work.
B. TASP: Rank the sites at which you would like to work and explain the reasons for your preferences. Keep in mind that while each seminar has two factota, there are four factota at each site. Please also state whether you would not accept a job at one of the sites.
IN ADDITION, PLEASE PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING:
1. A recommendation from (1) an academic instructor who knows you well OR (2) an employer who has supervised your work with high-school students in an academic environment.
If there is someone else whose perspective you think would be especially relevant to your application, you can include a letter from that person in addition to the required letter. Please have the letter(s) mailed or emailed directly to Telluride Association as soon as possible after your application submission and by OCTOBER 22 at the latest.
2. A transcript covering your college work to date.
3. A sample of your written academic work, preferably a short essay of ten pages or fewer.
4. A resume or brief list of your past employers/jobs, including all part-time and full-time jobs you have held for more than two months.
