BCSP No. 7 GRAMBLING STATE jumped up 21-7 on BCSP No.

1 Alcorn
State at the half and held on for a 28-21 upset win. Quarterback Johnathan Williams
(13-29-2, 222 yards) accounted for three touchdowns two on the ground and one
through the air. With the win, new GSU head coach Broderick Fobbs has guided the G-
Men to four straight SWAC wins afer three non-conference losses to open the season.
Te Tigers, at 4-0 in the conference, are now the only undefeated team in SWAC play.
Afer trailing 21-17 at the half, NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL outscored
BCSP No. 4 South Carolina State 31-7 in the second half to pull out an improbable
48-35 road win in Orangeburg, S. C. Te 48 points surrendered by the Bulldogs comes
one week afer they shut out then BCSP No. 1 North Carolina A&T 13-0 at the Atlanta
Classic. NCCU put up 517 ofensive yards, 227 passing and 290 on the ground led by
QB Malcolm Bell (17-30-1, 227 yards, 1 TD), RB Andre Clarke (14 carries, 144 yards,
3 TDs - 23, 1, 3) and WR Adrian Wilkins (12 receptions, 144 yards, 1 TD). SC State
lost starting QB Adrian Kollock at the half with a shoulder sprain and played the rest of
the way with freshman Calvin Giles-McLary at the controls. Te win by new coach Jerry Macks Eagles
leaves them tied for the lead in the MEAC with Bethune-Cookman at 2-0.

Te Rattlers (1-5) rallied to their frst win of the season, broke a seven-game home losing
streak and likely saved head coach Earl Holmes job with a 24-14 win over Savannah State (0-6). FAMU
QB Damien Fleming fnished 14 of 27 for 268 yards with three interceptions and ran 13 times for 48
yards. He powered the Rattlers to a 21-7 halfime lead with a 30-yard touchdown catch on a pass from
Curtric Evans midway through the second quarter and touchdown passes to Casey Glines and Zachary
Webster in the fnal 3 minutes.

CIAA North Division co-leader Virginia Union (5-1, 3-0 N) got 179 rushing yards and four
TD runs from Cassio McDowell and 697 yards of total ofense in a 78-13 rout of division rival Lincoln.
McDowell scored on runs of 1, 10, 49 and 67 yards while QB Kenneth Graham (14-25-0) threw for
338 yards and two scores (9, 50). Back-up QB Shawheen Dowby (2-2-0) also threw two TD passes late
covering 25 and 21 yards to Jussie York.
BCSP No. 2 and MEAC co-leader BETHUNE-COOKMAN (5-1, 2-0) had little trouble at its
homecoming vs. Howard, downing the Bison 49-12. Te Wildcats rushed for 262 yards, 102 on just 11
carries with two TDs (2, 79) by RB Anthony Jourdan.
BCSP No. 3 and CIAA Southern Division leader WINSTON-SALEM STATE (5-1, 3-0 S) had
no trouble in a 37-0 shut out of Johnson C. Smith on the road in Charlotte despite a weather delay. Te
quarterback tandem of Rudy Johnson (6-13-0, 56 yards, 2 TDs) and Phillip Sims (15-21-1, 164 yards,
2 TDs) threw for three scores while RBs Maurice Lewis (14 rushes, 98 yards) and Maurice Green (16
rushes, 91 yards) both scored on the ground.
Te match up of SIAC East leader Morehouse and West leader Tuskegee
turned out to be a mismatch as the Golden Tigers of Tuskegee (4-2, 3-0) shut out the
Maroon Tigers 49-0 at their 79th Classic in Columbus, Ga. Tuskegee scored on fve
plays of 23-plus yards including a 92-yard kickof return by Hoderick Lowe that opened
the second half afer Tuskegee went into the break up 21-0.
CIAA Northern Division co-leader VIRGINIA STATE (4-2, 3-0 N) trailed
Elizabeth City State 14-13 afer one quarter but scored 28 unanswered points the rest
of the way in posting a 41-14 home win over the Vikings. Te trio of QB Tarian Ayres
(19-30-0, 222 yards, 2 TDs), RB Kavon Bellamy (29 carries, 139 yards, 2 TDs) and WR
Javon Smallwood (8 receptions, 132 yards, 1 TD) paced the Trojans.

North Carolina A&T RB Tarik Cohen returned to form, rushing for 155 yards on 24 carries
including a 60-yard TD run and scoring on a swing pass that he took 68 yards to paydirt in a 31-14 Ag-
gies win over Hampton Tursday night. He fnished with 236 all-purpose yards. Cohen, who was the
frst Aggie freshman to rush for a 1,000 yards last season, has 767 yards through six games this year, an
average of 127.8 yards per game.

- As it stands now, Herb Walker of Morgan State is the leading black college rusher with 917
yards (152.5 per game), Malcolm Cyrus of Alabama State is second with 912 yards (130.3 per game)
and Cohen is third. Walker is third in the FCS, Cyrus 10th and Cohen 12th. Roderick Davenport of
Saint Augustines is fourth among black college rushers with 744 yards (124.0 pg.). Davenports num-
bers are 14th in Div. II in yards per game.
- Shaw RB Marquise Grizzle, who led all black college rushers last season with 1,256 yards, had
his frst 100-yard game this season in the Bears loss Saturday to Fayetteville State. Grizzle, who has only
played in three games this season, had 200 rushing yards on 28 carries vs. FSU.
Alcorn State entered its game vs. Grambling State Saturday averaging a SWAC-best 325.1
yards per game. Te Braves ran for 295 yards in the loss. Te surprise was Grambling, who came in aver-
aging an anemic 128.3 yards per game but rushed for 204 in the victory.
- Livingstone WR Jalen Hendricks grabbed another 9 passes for 100 yards and now has 50
receptions for 793 yards and 10 TDs through six games.
- Stillman QB Josh Straughan completed 27 of 40 passes for 488 yards and fve TDs
in win over Benedict. Straughan now has 780 passing yards and 11 TD passes over the last two
games.
- Benedict QB Cameron Stover threw for 425 yards and 3 TDs in the loss to Straughan
and Stillman Saturday. In the game, the two QBs combined for 913 passing yards and 8 TDs. In
SIAC stats thru six games, Stover is frst in passing yards per game at 247.7 and Straughan is sec-
ond at 227.2. Stover is completing 59.5% of his passes with Straughan at 60.4. Straughan has 16 TDs with
just one interception while Stover has 11 TDs and fve picks.
Stover is a 6-2, 200-pound senior from Flint, Michigan. He transferred from Chowan of the
CIAA afer three seasons there where he last threw for 2,358 yards (235.8 ypg.) in 10 games for the
Hawks in 2012. Staughan is a 6-3, 200-pound junior from Colton, Washington in his third season with
the Tigers.

FAYETTEVILLE STATE withstood a 200-yard rushing, 2-touchdown game from Shaw RB
Marquis Grizzle to escape with a 27-26 win over the Bears.
SAINT AUGUSTINES got a late interception from Johnta Cooper afer he had blocked an
extra point attempt earlier that turned out to be the winning point in a 31-30 win over Livingstone.
MISSISSIPPI VALLEY STATE - Joshua Rice caught fve passes for 91 yards, including a
game-winning 36-yard touchdown from QB Quantavius Peterson with 1:46 remaining, and Mississippi
Valley State rallied from 17-6 in the third quarter to beat Jackson State 27-23 on Saturday. Te win gave
new MVSU head coach Rick Comegy a win over the team that let him go a year ago.
SOUTHERN - QB Austin Howard threw for two touchdowns and Malcom Crockett scored
the winning TD with 51 seconds lef on a 1-yard run Saturday in the Jags 35-34 comeback win over Ala-
bama A&M.
