UNIQUE CHARACTERISTICS

Ms. Student graduated summa cum laude from Name of University (UNIV) in City with a
Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. She earned a 4.0 grade point average. During the
summers following her sophomore, junior, and senior years, Ms. Student held summer
internship positions at three pharmaceutical research facilities. During her third internship,
she assisted in a research project on the development of treatment for pediatric leukemia. For
three semesters at UNIV, Ms. Student worked as a research assistant in the Department of
Chemistry, where she studied the degradation of TCR by the proteasome. She was co-
author of a paper published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry. As a senior, she studied
the various applications and production of molybdenum nitride nanoparticles, presenting her
research at a regional research competition.

Ms. Student was active in the (Name of Organization). She served as chapter program chair
her junior year when the UNIV chapter was selected as the National Large Chapter of the
Year. As a senior, Ms. Student served as president of the UNIV (Name of Organization)
chapter. Ms. Student volunteered her senior year at a local hospital in the Department of

Clinical clerkship directors pointed out a number of Ms. Student's strengths, including her
strong work ethic, extensive reading, and empathic rapport with patients and staff. She gave
excellent presentations, completed thorough histories, and was an asset to her teams. Ms.
Student demonstrated a professional attitude and compassion.

As a first-year student, Ms. Student received a Condition grade in Gross Anatomy II (head and
neck) and was required to independently review the course material and retake the exam. When
she initially retook the exam, she received a failing grade and was required to participate in a
faculty-supervised summer review program and retake the exam. After completing the review
and reexamination, she earned a passing grade. During her second year, Ms. Student received
Condition grades in Neurology and Special Senses and in Pharmacology. She was required to
independently review the course material and retake these exams. Upon reexamination, she
passed each course. As a third-year student, Ms. Student received a condition grade in her
Surgery clerkship due to a low score on the NBME subtest. She was required to retake the
subtest. Ms. Student improved her score significantly and passed the clerkship.

ACADEMIC PROGRESS

Preclinical/Basic Science Curriculum:

Ms. Student earned overall year-end grades of Pass for each of her first two years of medical
school. She received an individual course grade of Honors in Dermatology. During the first

and second years in the UNC program, students participate in several small group seminars.
With their evaluations, instructors provide narrative comments on the students' work. Ms.
Student's instructors appreciated her class preparation and her oral presentations. In
Introduction to Clinical Medicine (ICM), a two-year, seminar course designed to give
medical students clinical exposure during their preclinical training, Ms. Student's instructor
found her to be "one of the most thorough, attentive, and thoughtful interviewers and
examiners in the group." She added, "The quality of Name's written work, particularly her
clinical reasoning work and synthesis of information, has been outstanding. The above,
combined with Name's unquestionable professionalism with patients, classmates, and faculty
alike will make her a wonderful addition to her clinical teams and a wonderful gift to her
patients."

SUMMARY

Ms. Student is a very good candidate for success in residency. To her medical education,
she brought the perspective gained in her summer internships in pharmaceutical research.

Organization) gave her excellent administrative and management experience that she plans to
apply in work with health care delivery agencies for rural and underserved patients. Clinical
preceptors praised Ms. Student's empathic rapport with patients, professional attitude,
extensive literature review, and strong work ethic.
