1. What caused Yang Jianguos shaky start at Deronde International?



There was difference in culture since Jianguo came from a different country and culture from
his counterparts. French people are more individualistic as compared to Chinese who are
raised in a culture of humbleness and that being a team player is important. The text also
mentioned that Chinese working culture view working relations between superiors and
subordinates as top-down whereas the line is diluted, hence Jianguo did not seek help from
his colleagues and the relationship between them was not built. Furthermore, Yves was not
promoted and therefore there is little people on Jianguos side since they tend to support
their own.

2. What could Yang Jianguo have done to make his first few weeks at Deronde International
more successful?

Focus on understanding the culture in his workplace.
Forming bonds with his colleagues, letting them understand that he is part of the team and
not a outside member
Demonstrate his value since he took up a high position, convince the rest of his capabilities

3. What could Alain Deronde have done to make Yang Jianguos first few weeks at Deronde
International more successful?
Cultural immersion program, help their global members adapt into a new environment
Bonding sessions between group members and immediate colleagues, and then the
sessions can move into people who are further from Jiangou.
Change of company culture. If you are planning to be a global company your culture must be
suited for one. A company where locals side against outsiders will not help the company
succeed.
Adaptation phase so that Jiangou can observe the workings of Deronde and learn the
working culture before taking part in it
