Most of the troubleshooting steps should be done on the Exchange 2010 server (NetWorker

Client).

These steps should be in use if one of the following occurs:

1. Backup failed.
2. Backup interrupted.

Troubleshooting and cleaning steps on the Exchange 2010:

1. Always when you start NMM, make sure you Run as administrator
2. Make sure the following services running with Local System and as Automatic:

a. Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider (Status: Blank)
b. Volume Shadow Copy (Status: Blank)
c. NetWorker Remote Exec Service (Status: Running)
d. NetWorker Power Monitor (Status: Running)
e. PowerSnap client services (Status: Running)
f. Replication Manager client application (Status: Running)

3. The following service should run with Exchange Admin account (Exchange credentials)
and as Automatic:

Replication Manager Exchange interface service (Status: Blank)

4. You might require restarting the above services in the following order:

a. Volume Shadow Copy (Status: Blank)
b. Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider (Status: Blank)
c. NetWorker Remote Exec Service (Status: Running)
d. NetWorker Power Monitor (Status: Running)
e. Replication Manager client application (Status: Running)
f. PowerSnap client services (Status: Running)

Or use Windows net start command line with the following order:

net start vss OR net start Volume Shadow Copy
net start Microsoft Software Shadow copies OR Microsoft Software Shadow copy
providers (swprv)
net start nsrexecd
net start nsrpm
net start rmagentps
net start nsrpsd

5. Make sure the writers report no errors and in stable state by running the following
command:

Vssadmin list writers

6. Make sure while no backup running, that no volume has shadow copy created and
leftovers. If so, please use vssadmin command to delete the created shadow copy or use
the disk properties, Shadow Copies tab to manage.
7. If the above does not help to fix the issue, then please open a ticket with EMC support
and supply the EMC Report and config checker outputs.
IMPORTANT
Do not use any other VSS requester when NMM is installed. Data loss may occur if other
VSS requestor backup solutions delete shadowcopies created by NMM.
Additionally, restoring an application by using another vendors VSS requestor backup
solution may prevent the same application from being restored with NMM.

2. Using the disk properties, Shadow Copies tab:

When you open the Shadow Copies tab, select the volume with copies and click on
