Dear Mrs.

Pinto,
Given the fact that your organization is looking for a young and motivated person to join its ranks, I am writing this
letter in order to epress my interest for pursuing a six-month long internship, starting November 2014, at the
European Roma Information Office, in !russels.
My name is osmin-Ioan Octavian and I"ve graduated in #uly $%&' from (aw )chool, at the *niversity of !ucharest.
+rom )eptem,er $%&', I am enrolled in a Master of (aws program focused on -uropean (aw, at .* (euven. During
my studies, alongside theoretical knowledge /especially, in the fields of 0uman 1ights (aw, 0umanitarian (aw, ,ut
also 2ational and -* (aw3, I"ve gained a series of a,ilities and competences, ,y participating in numerous
etracurricular activities /as stated in the attached resume3, in the fields of human rights protection, foreign affairs
and politics.
4oming from 1omania, a country with a multicultural society, that has a large 1oma population, I have ,een in
contact with the 1oma people and have ,een aware of their specific pro, lems for 5uite some time. -ver since high6
school, when I ,egan to realize that my country has some issues regarding the integration of minorities, I have ,een
interested in the measures that other states implement in order to achieve this o,jective. In (aw )chool, I studied the
approach of -uropean states in integrating 1oma populations, during my (aw of Minorities class. 2ot to my surprise,
I discovered that these countries were having only a limited success in solving the pro, lems of the 1oma. 7he key
factor that was impeding success in this field was the lack of coordination ,etween -uropean states.
)eeing that -1I8 focuses, among others, on ameliorating the socio6economical situation of the 1oma alongside a
,etter integration of this population within society, at a -uropean level, I consider this internship a great opportunity to
apply the theoretical knowledge that I have gained, contri, ute and leave a mark on issues of interest on the
-uropean and international stage. 9lso, I see the internship at -1I8 as a chance to ac5uire new knowledge in the
fields of human rights and minorities protection and -uropean affairs, alongside new social, organizational and time
management a,ilities, and as a chance to meet with eperts in the field of human rights.
+inally, I would like to state what I can contri, ute with during this Internship: good knowledge of 0uman 1ights (aw,
-uropean 9ffairs, 2ational Minorities (aw, eperience in different governmental institutions, ,ut also in an 2G8,
strong foreign languages and computer skills, eperience in article writing, ,oth in -nglish and 1omanian, for +oreign
Policy magazine, good a,ility to adapt to international environments and, more importantly, my passion and
willingness to contri, ute and leave an impact, that have guided me until now and will hopefully do so during my time
at the -1I8.
Given all of the a,ove, please consider my application for the Intern position at the -uropean 1oma Information
8ffice and find attached my resume.
1espectfully yours,
Cosmin-Ioan Octavian
