Performance enhancement 2
Jam handling enhancement at bridge
(AK) section
Please upgrade the DF-790/770
firmware at the same time. Or a
JAM may result.
Depending on the position of the jammed paper, the paper may become torn
between the bridge and the main unit exit section or between the bridge and the
finisher when the bridge is pulled out, making it difficult to clear the paper
completely. As a preventative measure, the following changes are carried out.
[Content of Changes]
The control is changed so when a paper jam occurs between the bridge and the
main unit exit section, the paper shall be ejected to the bridge section and when
it occurs between the bridge and the finisher, the paper shall be ejected to the
finisher side whenever possible.
Measure for MPF no paper feed jam
(J0509)
(J0509: No paper feed from MP tray)
As a paper feed performance improvement of the MPF, the retry operation is
increased from one to three (3) times).
Implementing the error message
notice to the Print Fleet
Currently, the main unit status (error message, etc.) is displayed with the Alert
number only. This has been changed to display with a sentence.
Preventative measure for the ghost
image caused by condensation on
the drum
Stop the eject unit cooling fan from the time the initial warm-up starts to up to
ten (10) minutes except during the print operation.
If the fan stops within ten (10) minutes due to open cover, etc., the same control
shall be activated from the next warm-up operation for up to ten (10) minutes.
Once exceeding ten (10) minutes, a normal control will run until the power OFF
or entering the sleep mode.
Changing the conditions for drum
refresh mode
Frequency of the drum refresh mode is changed according to the elapsed time
since the last drive time when the power is ON (if coming out of sleep mode, the
length of time in the mode).
Less than three (3) hours: No refresh operation
----- (With Pack Ver. 2.00 and higher)
Three (3) to les than six (6) hours: Once when in normal mode.
(Exception: Four (4) times if the temperature/humidity is more than
30/75%.
If the short or long mode is set, follow the setting.
More than six (6) hours: Follow the mode setting.
Preventing the color density
fluctuation before and after calibration
Accuracy in calibration is increased.
Disabling the output onto the B tray
when using the main box (MT-730)
Currently, even if the main unit is in the partial operation control mode, the tray
B can be selected as the output tray and this may trigger a paper jam. As a
preventative measure, the following modification is carried out.
[Content of Change]
The output onto tray B is now disabled if the main unit is in the partial operation
control mode.
Preventing the J0131 (MP lift sensor
upper limit detection)/ C1000 (MP lift
motor error)
The error detection time was 1.5 seconds for the 3050ci/3550ci/4550ci and the

Changes and Implementations Remarks
Preventing a stain on the rear side of
paper after calibration
During calibration, the toner (oppositely charged toner) on the secondary
transfer roller is returned to the belt. In some cases, the cleaning brush cannot
completely clean the returned toner, staining the secondary transfer roller when
running the first sheet after calibration, causing the rear side of paper to become
stained. The following changes are carried out to reduce the oppositely charged
toner.
[Change]
Change the primary transfer bias switch timing during calibration.
Change the secondary transfer forward bias application timing.
Measure for C710x
C710x: C7101/C7102/C7103/C7104
Toner sensor error for each color
Once the print job is interrupted, there is a 50msec timing when toner cannot be
monitored between the last paper recognition process and the print resume
process. If the print job is received at this timing, the toner will not be supplied
due to toner detection failure and as a result, the C710X error may trigger. This
has been corrected.
Measure for C710X after the F183
error occurs
*C7101: Toner sensor K error
*C7102: Toner sensor C error
*C7103: Toner sensor M error
*C7104: Toner sensor Y error
In some cases, paper feed may be requested from an empty cassette when the
F183 occurs. If the process to start drive is carried out before print cancellation
is notified, only the DC for charge bias may become turned ON (AC is OFF) and
after the imaging process, solid image may be output. This has been corrected.
Preventing the PCL-XL error when
outputting a certain PDF
When printing a certain PDF (KX Driver, PCL-XL, Outline), the PCL-XL error
may occur. This has been corrected.
Preventing the F248 error with a
certain PDF output
This has been corrected.
Measure for the cassette lift place
failing to lift after Jam clearing
After clearing the jam during the continuous print operation and pulling out/in the
cassette, the cassette lift motor does not operate; the lift plate does not go up
while paper is in the cassette, indicating there is 0 paper remaining. This has
been corrected.
ACK-595 by Adesso added to the
usable option keyboard
The keyboard by Adesso (ACK-595) always lockup when the power is turned
ON. This has been addressed.
Adding the cancel print function when
running the test copy in
U034/U066/U067
Modification is made so you can now cancel the test copy printing in
maintenance mode.
While running a test copy, upon the STOP key press timing, a quick
Job list displays on the test coy screen, allowing you to cancel
specified Job.
New addition of the paper size fixing
function when copying the small size
original
[Addition to the System Menu]
The following changes are made to allow you to set the paper size when printing
the small size original (drivers license, etc.) that cannot be detected with the
auto paper setting.
[Change]
New setting item Small original size is added to the system menu.
System menu Copy Small original size
The following sizes are available
A4R/A4Y/A5R/A6R/B5R/
B5Y/B6R/LETTER R/LETTER Y/STATEMENT/ Priority cassette
Supporting the high compression
PDF file for the default viewer display
on Mac and iPhone
When a high compression PDF file is sent using Scan to e-mail and opened
with iPhone or iPad, it does not display correctly. This has been corrected.
Change to the remaining toner
amount indication
See the following pages for details.
The indication that appears when in toner low condition (5%) seems empty and
unclear. It has been changed.
Change for easier direction to the MP
Tray button when setting the paper
When you need to select the MP tray at the copy paper setting, you press the
Paper selection and then More that can be a little confusing. The
description of button is now changed as follows.
[Change]
More More/MP Tray
Correcting U429 (setting the offset for
color balance)
When executing U429, it will also affect other than the copy output. This has
been corrected so it will reflect only on the copy output.
Addition of JAM counts and C-call
counts to the maintenance report
Please see page 14 for details.
The information of U903 (JAM counts) and U904 (Service call counts) are added
to the last page of the maintenance report.
Additionally, when the data is reset, Reset date, Count after reset date,
Cumulative counter after ex-factory will be indicated.

the mixed paper eject locations
(1 J471x: Switchback sensor stay
JAM
When using the mixed eject trays (inner JOB separator inner tray), due to
insufficient timing, it may shift to the inner ejection tray while the trailing edge of
the paper is still in the Job separator, triggering a paper jam. This has been
addressed as follows.
[Change]
The margin for switching the eject location from inner JOB separator to inner
tray is improved by adding 200msec.
(2 When using the mixed paper eject location (inner tray right JOB separator),
due to insufficient margin for timing, it may shift to right JOB separator ejection
while the trailing edge of the paper is exiting the inner eject tray, triggering a
paper jam. This has been addressed as follows.
[Change]
The margin for switching the eject location from inner tray to right JOB separator
is improved by adding 2000msec.

*1 Measure to reduce the DP
eject motor drive noise
DP-771
(DP standard equipped
Machine)
DP-771
As a measure to reduce the drive noise from the motor itself, the
eject motor drive control is changed from wave drive to a step drive
for all linear speeds.
[7550ci/6550ci/8000i/6500i] DP standard equipped models
As a measure to reduce the drive noise from the motor itself, the
eject motor drive control is changed from wave drive to a step drive
for all linear speeds.
As a measure for the change of tone due to the difference in speed
when ejecting the originals, the originals will now be ejected in scan
speed for a certain eject operation.
(Please note, however, that the eject speed is set to the original
300mm/s only for the initial ejection of the original smaller than A4R or
Letter R to prevent a secondary problem.)
*1 Correcting the motor drive
direction in U243 (Checking
the operation of the DP
motors)
DP-771
(DP standard equipped
Machine)
When running the eject motor drive in U243 (Checking the operation of
the DP motors), the drive direction is reversed from the eject direction.
This has been corrected.
Changing the process when
running the initial developer
setting
When replacing with the service part DV Unit, initial developer setting
will be performed at the time when the power is turned ON. However,
a problem may occur under the following conditions. This has been
corrected.
[Conditions]
1. The initial developer setting operation may not be completed
properly when calibration is executed in U464, if you enter the
maintenance mode within 2 minutes after turning the power ON
upon replacement of DV unit.
2. As to the control conditions for the initial developer setting operation,
in some cases, it may be controlled by only the DV unit side
information.
[Change]
1. Even if entering the maintenance mode in the middle of initial
developer setting operation, in the case where calibration is
executed in U464, initial developer setting operation will be
prioritized and only after it is completed, calibration will be executed.
2. The control for the initial developer setting operation is reviewed.

belt skew error)
(Detection method changed by
adding the feed retry
operation)
C2770: Transfer belt skew
error
Cycling the main switch or continuing driving with the Cyan, Magenta
and Yellow drums away from the belt may correct the skewed
position. Therefore, the feed retry process is added.
(Before change) When the error is detected, the C2770 error code
will display the first time it occurs.
(After change) Add retry process when the error is detected. If the
error code continues to come back, the C2770 error
code will display fourth time it triggers.
Note) The operation panel displays Please wait, or
Adjusting message on sub screen during the retry operation.

error
The following are changed to prevent the C2300/C6600 error from
occurring.
- When detected with jam at the same time, only the Jam code
will be indicated.
- The retry will be performed after the print operation is
completed, if the C6600 error occurs
Measure for the problems
while in silent mode
(Image dropout on the second
side of paper at 45mm from
the trailing edge/C6910 error)
When printing in silent mode, the machine will start to warm up
coming out of energy saver mode. If the print Job request is received
during the process, depending on the timing, unintended control may
work, causing a white void area on the image or C-call may be
detected. This has been corrected.
Measure for C6910 error

If a B/W print (1 or 2 page) job is received while executing the warm-
up calibration after coming out of sleep mode, C6910 error may
trigger. This has been corrected.
Preventing the problem when
resetting the no paper feed jam
(JAM0501)
No paper feed jam (JAM0501) may occur when coming out of silent
mode and when resetting, the driving goes on continuously. This has
been corrected.
Preventing the problem when
paper full/empty information
does not match
1) Measure for the print
operation start failure:
Paper full/empty information may differ between Main and Engine.
When it occurs, the print operation would not start while driving as the
print or cancel order is sent out alternately. This has been corrected.
(If this is the case, no paper information will be prioritized, canceling
the print operation.)
2) Measure for the C6020 error
Preventing the communication
error from being counted when
the C67xx occurs

Scanner Change to the black streaks
detection specification
[Content 1]
The following changes are carried out as a measure to prevent the
display failure of cleaning guidance.
[Current issue 1]
Currently the black streak reduction mode is ON as default setting. In
this setting, the guidance will be displayed based on the designated
number of scanned pages and not when black streaks are detected.
[Measure 1]
If the black streaks occur during the scan operation even once
between pages, the DP scan position will be shifted for the next Job.
Once the DP scan position matches with the DP scan home position,
the black streaks cleaning guidance will display.
[Content 2] [Current issue 2]
The guidance does not display if the count at last paper matches with
designated number of pages, as the counter to compare with the
designated original number is between pages.
[Measure 2]
Count timing is now changed from between pages to after one page is
scanned. Additionally, as to comparison with the designated number
of pages, it is changed from the count between pages to the number
of pages at the completion of Job.
Preventing lockup when
copying the book originals
When setting the book original on the original platen, if the original
detection switch is repeatedly cycled, machine lockup may occur.
This has been corrected.
Measure for the DP original
size detection error
The original size detection error may occur if the originals are
removed and reloaded while the Remove originals in document
processor. message displays after pressing the [Cancel] button
during the DP scan. This has been corrected.
Measure for the long edge
original size detection error
The long edge original size may not be correctly detected if the long
edge original size switch is quickly changed from the OFF setting to
ON, OFF and then ON while the originals are set. While the long
edge size is ON, the OFF size may be displayed. This has been
corrected.

Changes/Modifications Remarks
Preventing a machine lockup
when pressing the start key
after canceling the DP scan
If the stat key is pressed upon opening the platen cover after closing
the platen cover, depending on the timing, machine lockup may occur
with the lamp illuminated. This has been corrected.
Preventing the operation error
when running U411 with the
platen cover open
If U411 (Adjusting the scanner automatically) is executed for the Table
with the original platen cover switch being OFF (the Cover is open), a
carriage operation error may occur. This has been corrected.
DP-771 Measure for the C0630 error The C0630 error may be detected when coming out of sleep mode.
This has been corrected.
Measure for the 16KE
original jam with the document
Box save screen
When the 16KE originals are set on the DP with the document Box
save screen, jam may trigger before the secondary feed of the third
original. This has been corrected.
Corrective measure for the
image dropout at the trailing
edge of punched originals
The trailing edge of punched originals may drop out at rear side when
simultaneously scanning in duplex mode. This has been corrected.
[Change]
If the punch hole overlaps the CIS timing sensor when scanning the
punched originals, the punch hole may be judged as the trailing edge
of paper. Therefore, it is changed that if the sensor ON detection
occurs within 20mm after OFF detection, the CIS timing sensor will
judge it as a punch hole and wait for the next detection of trailing
edge.
(Also
applicable to
DP-770)
Change to JAM9010
(Document processor open)
detecting condition
JAM9010 may trigger when opening the DP to scan other original
from the scanner table when the last original is ejected. This has
been corrected.
[Change]
JAM9010 detecting condition is changed. Jam will not be detected
after scanning the last original.
Measure to prevent JAM9310
in simplex color mode
JAM9310: DP CIS sensor stay jam
JAM9310 may be detected when DP-scanning the color originals in
600-dpi in simplex mode. This has been corrected.
Preventing JAM9300 with high
speed color machine
JAM9300: DP CIS sensor non
arrival jam
JAM9300 may occur if color originals are scanned in 300-dpi in duplex
mode when printing color copies with high-speed color machine. This
has been corrected.
PF-770 Preventing JAM0200
JAM0200: Machine sequence error
When the paper interval is short while feeding from the PF-770, the
paper feed switch ON/OFF information may fail to be relayed to the
main unit, triggering the JAM200 error code. This has been corrected.
DF-790
DF-770
Preventing the C8130 error
C8130: DF shift release motor
error
If the user tries to remove the paper stack while the machine is
operating such as starting the JOB and come in contact with some
parts of the machine, the position control failure may be caused. As a
result, the operation failure may occur, triggering the C8130 error.
This has been corrected.

Measure for C2201error
The fuser warm-up operation may fail to be completed, displaying a
false C2201 error code. It has been modified to display the C6910
code instead.
We have changed the control to prevent a false detection.
Enhancement Change/ Modification Details
PH-7A/B/C/D
Improving the tolerance for
punch process time
When outputting the letter size paper with the TASKalfa 8000i, a punch
error may occur. We have reexamined and shortened the punch unit
movement and adjustment process time to adress the issue.
DF-790
Preventing the JAM6310 from
triggering due to the paper
stack on Tray A
JAM6310:
DF middle eject sensor stay
jam
If the paper continues to stack while the trailing edge of the paper does
not reach the side plate of finisher after ejection, the Tray A upper limit
may fail to be detected, causing the paper to stack to the paper exit
section, causing the JAM6310 to trigger. This following change has been
carried out to address the problem.
[Change]
The condition of Tray Full with the paper stack of 31 sheets or more in
the staple mode has been changed so the tray full condition iwill be
detected when the state of paper stack is abnormal.
DF-790 Measure for the sort alignment
failure
During the side registration of shift guide in sort mode, the next paper
may come in contac with the Guide, causing an alignment failure to occur.
We have shortened the hold time after the width adjustment to address
this problem.
DF-790 Preventing a small bundle of
stapled paper from dropping
(The Main Tray Full detection
is added with 150 sets in
staple mode.)
It is modified so that if the same mode (size/number of sheets to be
stapled) continues to 150 sets as the maximum number of set, the Main
Tray full condition will be detected.
DF-790
PH-7A/B/C/D
Preventing thecorner edge of
paper from becoming folded
(dog-eared) due to punch hole
When the position of punch hole overlaps the edge of the paper or close
to each other, the corner edge of paper may enter the punch hole,
causing the paper to become dog-eared. A new process is added to
move punch unit to keep the paper away from the punch hole depending
on paper size, availability of punch spec. and whether in punch mode or
not.
DF-790 Measure for C8130 If you open/close the DF Cover while the Shift Guide for sorting is slightly
shifted from the hole position, a C8130 error code may trigger. This has
been corrected.
DF-790 Measure for JAM6610 The operation failure of the DF drum motor may trigger the JAM6610.
This has been corrected.

Enhancement 2
Change in U161 (New
modes added),
Preventing the
deterioration of fuser
roller
(*) User who repeats
continuous output of
approximately 1500 prints
5550ci/4550ci only
When large quantities of prints are output continuously, the
temperature of the cored bar inside the fuser roller increases. As a
result, the inside silicon rubber may become deteriorated due to the
heat and become damaged. As a preventative measure, the following
new modes are added for the high print volume user (*).
> The Mode item is added in U161and the following small items are
added.
Mode0 --- It is not normally used.
(This mode is used if a fuser problem occurs with continuous output in
Mode1. Please note, however, that a continuous use of Mode0 may
lead to deterioration of the fuser roller.)
Mode1 --- User in general (Default)
Mode2 --- User who repeats continuous output of approximately
1500 prints
> Mode1: Under the conditions below, the temperature control is added
every 50 prints after 500 continuous prints. (When paper
length is 356mm or more, every 25 prints after 250
continuous prints)
> Conditions No warm-up correction
Normal 2 or 3
Paper length is 216 mm or more
> Mode2: Productivity is controlled based on the press roller
temperature at the power ON and the 15-minute average
thermal energy amount. (In some cases, productivity may
decrease.)
Measure for the ghost
image
(Increasing the
effectiveness of drum
refresh operation)
When running the drum refresh operation while in quiet mode, the
heater will be turned OFF upon completion of the fuser unit warm-up
operation, and as a result the ghost image may occur. As a
preventative measure, the heater will be turned OFF after the warm-up
operation is complete for entire machine.
Measure for C2203 (Drum
motor M steady-state
error)
(Change to U100)
3550ci/3050ci only
A C2203 error may be detected due to the lack of margin for the motor
against increase of the drum torque due to the effect of corona
products. As a preventative measure, the following maintenance mode
is added.
- Add Set AC gain in U100 and the following small items are added.
Auto --- Automatically set based on the
Enviromental conditions (Default)
Mode1 --- When C2203 occurs.
(Multiplication value 0.95)
Mode2 --- When charge pitch lines (lateral lines) occur.
(Multiplication value 1.05)
Mode3 --- When charge pitch lines (lateral lines) occurs after
setting Mode due to occurrence of C2203.
(Multiplication value 1.00)

Measure for JAM4105
(Loop sensor non arrival
jam from cassette 5)
(With PF-770 installed)
JAM4105 may trigger while printing continuously using the PF-770.
This has been resolved.
Changing the condition for
drum refresh operation
As a measure to prevent entering the drum refresh control too often,
the condition is changed as follows.
When coming out of sleep mode, the drum refresh operation
will not be performed within 180 minutes of the time after
entering the sleep mode last time. (Except when quiet mode
is ON, it will be 120 minutes.)
Changing the T7 mode
condition
(Measure for the light
density image with a Legal
size output)
When outputting the Legal size paper, the light density mage may
occur. As a corrective measure, the paper count method for T7
control with the Legal size output is changed to double-count.
(This change will also apply to A5R/A6R size.)
Measure for the stain on
the rear side of coated
paper
Secondary transfer roller cleaning operation is changed as a
preventative measure for the stain on the rear side of coated paper
when printing in half-speed or -speed mode.
When using the media type that is coated paper and more
than Heavy1, the positive bias application time is increased
to 4 rotations of secondary transfer roller during the Roller
cleaning operation that is performed at the beginning of print
operation.
Measure for the grainy
image
(Only available for Custom
6 or 7 setting)
Effective only in color mode
Graininess may appear on the initial print images (several prints) due
to excessive heat supply. As a preventative measure, modifications
have been carried out as follows.
Preventing the Belt temperature overshoot at the start of
printing.
Fuser control temperature adjustment at the start of printing.
These will be enabled when Normal 2 or Normal 3 is selected for the
`media type setting Custom 6 or Custom 7 respectively.
Measure for CF349 when
using the Hypas
application
When logging in with the Hypas application, a CF349 error may
trigger. This has been corrected.

DF-790 Preventing the staple from
coming off when stapled at
one point
When a few pages are stapled of A4R/Letter R paper at one point,
the paper deflection may increase with the movement of
registration cursors. As a result, the edge of the paper may come
in contact with the part in the machine, causing the staple to come
off or a paper jam to occur. This has been corrected.
DF-790 Preventing the paper
deflection mark
Deflection mark may appear at the trailing edge of paper under the
following conditions. This has been corrected.
- Paper exit onto Tray A
- Punch mode on
- 2 or more pages
DF-770 Measure to prevent a C8160
