EVENTS BOOK
‘Thank you for the sacrifice you are about to give. Let the crowd know your name and you shall
never die.’
—Unnamed lanista addressing his troupe

This book covers the rules for playing different Brutal arena events and is used in conjunction with the
Brutal core rules book ‘the training ground’. There are a variety of events that players can take part in. It’s
not all about simple one on one combat! If you are playing a single one-off game then simply pick an event
or roll to randomly determine which you shall play. Rules covering playing an actual league or free-
flowing campaigns are mentioned within the Lanista book ‘The bloodied, bruised and broken’ If playing a
league/ campaign then please refer to the ‘pre-fight build-up’ in that book instead.

The event size is determined by how many players wish to play within the same event.

Fatality Match
Fatality matches are often brought on by a grudge between fighters during the hyped up pre-fight interviews. What
can start from a normal match with fighters having mutual respect of one another can quickly lead to hostility
between them that often end up as a brawl before the actual fight takes place. Once the event takes place the
fighters offer no mercy and this always results in death.

Treat a fatality match exactly like the event being played but the winner always makes the finishing blow as if the
player got a 10 as a result on ‘listening to the crowd’. The crowd accept that this is a fatality match due the
video footage shown of the pre-fight interviews and so fighters do not receive any downside to taking things into
their own hands.

Side Events

Guthrarde’s senses were heightened by the dangers surrounding him. The arena was in constant motion as walls
raised and lowered and the sentinels became active. He gave a prayer to Wotak to help guide him and to accept him
with open arms should he fall this day.
The metallic grid shuddered as another wall section lowered into the arena floor. His opponent, seeing the opening,
stomped forward in his mechanical suit brandishing a huge sledge hammer. With a battle cry he too advanced to meet
his foe. Guthrarde parried the breakers attack sending shockwave's down his arm. He returned a strike of his own
only to have it chip away at the breakers thick armour. The metal clad warrior came down on Guthrarde hitting him on
his shoulder smashing him to the floor. The human Di-sector kicked out but to no avail. The towering figure stood
before him with his hammer raised for a final strike. Guthrarde rolled to the side as the hammer came crashing down
causing the floor to shake with the impact. He quickly jumped up onto his feet has a reverse swing hit him in the chest
knocking him backwards onto a chaos pad. Guthrarde rolled to the side of the pad just as gouts of flame erupted
from the floor singeing his warrior knot and facial hair.
He struggled to breathe as the pain in his chest overwhelmed him and blood coated his throat and mouth. The di-
sector punched his activation button on his chest to release a dose of combat drugs into his system. The pain dulled
as he rose to face his foe once again. A wall section rose behind the behemoth armour clad warrior. Circular saws
became active on the wall. Gaining the initiative Guthrarde rushed in and with all his might, rammed the breaker
forcing him backwards against the wall. The saws cut into his opponents armour as sparks lit up the arena. The di-
sector kept close to the breaker in order to keep out of the devastating weapons range of his two handed weapon.
The ponderous fighter swung for him with a hardened steel fist which Guthrarde deflected with ease as he side-
stepped to the flank of his foe. The di-sector went to work cutting exposed wires and pipes of the L.M.A. suit with
his dagger. Oil spurted out as the armour bled.

Side Event

V’s
One of the most common and simple events within the Brutal arena’s is the ‘vs’ event. Fighters battle against
each other until only one remains standing. The arena layout can vary from one match to the next and lanista
have a say as to what arena terrain and features will be present. Normally this event acts as a teaser for what’s
to come and to satisfy the crowd whilst a main event gets prepared for the show.

Chamber of Pain
Actually a re-enactment of the birth of Brutal as we know it today, Free fall city was originally one of many mining
towns acting under the sway of New Dawn city. At the time if its expanse this heavily industrial period forced near
humans and low class true humans to work along one another which led to hostilities’ that was settled in the lower
parts of Free Fall. Soon enough gambling and profit took a major roll in the authorities ‘overlooking’ these brutish
bouts of violence. Fighters did not only have to defeat his/ her foe but also out manoeuvre the dangers of the
mechanical diggers and the pits. Today the pits still remain within the arenas but the diggers are now replaced
with the deadly sentinels.

Tag Team
For those that like vs matches but demand more value for money. In a tag-team event supporters get to see
more of their favourite troupe more blood and more gore! Fighters have their own tele-porter mounted onto the
starting lift overlay. From here fighters from the same troupe can be switched allowing a fighter at deaths door to
make it out before the opposing side takes the winning strike only to be beaten back by the replacement fighter.

the players own fighters who started on the overlay. Use the special tag-team starting points. These overlays
remain for the duration of the event.

Changing fighters (tagging) A fighter that stands on their own teleporter is automatically teleported out of the
arena and out of harms way and is replaced with another fighter of the players choosing (one of the fighters

Special Side Event

Slaughter the Supporter

This has been a favourite for years. It gets the public interacting with the game by getting them involved in the
actual event! Lucky supporters attending the arena games are randomly picked from each supporting side.
These ‘lucky’ ones are then dressed in special event gear with the troupe motif or colours that they support.
They are paid by the F.N.C. should they survive but the main motivation behind this is that they get to be seen
on the vid-screen with their favourite fighters whilst trying to not be killed by the opposing sides fighters!

Number of ludi: 2 Number of fighters per ludi: 3 different classes per player (players choice)

Race/class restrictions: None Arena card alterations: None

Time/turn limit: Best of 3 bouts with no time limit.

Event rules: Each player has 2 supporters that have been picked for this event. The aim is to kill each others
supporter. Once a supporter has been killed another bout starts with the arena resets itself and a fresh fighter
and supporter replaces the previous one.

Supporters starting points should be next to the fighter on the starting point overlay

Supporters profile
Mv 6 Def 12 Ar 1 Stam 10

Rules on supporters:
Ÿ Supporters move at the start of his/ her own players phase before their own fighter.
Ÿ They are always classed as evading and can withdraw from any combat for free.
Ÿ Supporters do not use brutal action cards.
Ÿ Supporters cannot make an additional run move as it’s already included in the profile.

Scoring: Once a supporter has reached 0 stam points he/she is dead and the opposing team scores a 3 point
win for that bout. The fighter that wins the bout gains experience for the kill but no finishing blow is made.

Other rules:
No points are scored for defeating or killing opposing fighters. You still gain the experience for killing an
opponent but this action would be classed and ‘taking things into your own hands’ (see
core rule book). Should a fighter reach 0 Stam before his own supporter then the bout becomes a draw and no
points are scored. (remember this is slaughter the supporter)

Results:
Each bout won gives the players side 3 points.
Outright win: The side that scored the most points becomes the winner of this event.
Draw: Should for any reason the players have the same amount of points scored then a face-off bout is
played. Each player picks the fighter that has already won a bout and a fourth bout is played.

Optional rule: If you don’t have time to play the face-off bout then each of the players in the event rolls 1d10.

crowds chants the winning sides name.

Swift Kill
The popularity of the swift kill tournament has risen in recent times thanks to Lanista Rune. At first this
tournament was played in the pits of the small towns as the main viewing populace looked at swift kills as the
audience being cheated out of their entertainment. Rune studied this other rapid unethical style of fighting and
refined it, incorporating it into his own Ludi, creating what we all know today as the Di-sector class fighter.

Number of ludi: 2 Number of fighters per ludi: 3 different classes per player (players choice)

Race/class restrictions: None Arena card alterations: None

Time/turn limit: 10 game turns per bout. Use the arena cards to determine how long each bout takes and keep
a record of it. After each bout, reshuffle the arena deck and start again.
If no fighters score a win within this time the bout is a draw.

Event rules: A series of 3 bouts. The first to defeat the other within each bout wins a number of points. The
amount of points awarded a determined by how quickly you beat your opponent.
1 to 3 turn defeat classed as a 7 point win,
4 to 6 turns is a 3 point win
7 to 10 turns is a 2 point win.
Fighters that draw within a bout get 1 point.

Results:
Outright win: The player with the highest number of points by the end of the 3 bouts wins. All those fighters on
the winning side that survived can claim a win allowing them to gain experience points and possibly gifts. If the
fastest scored a 7 point win in a bout then he/she could be the world record holder! See additional gains
Other factors
If more than one fighter on the same winning side has scored the same amount of high end points roll randomly
to see who actually got the fastest time.
Draw: If two or more players have the same amount of points scored then a face-off bout is played. Each
player picks the ‘refreshed’ fighter that won the points to play one more bout known as a face-off bout. The
winner of this final bout wins the event.

Optional rule: If you don’t have time to play the face-off bout then each of the players in the event rolls 1d10.

Fear Factory
Nothing instils fear into the brutal fighters more than the Fear Factory event. Fighters in this event have to
think ahead in order to get out of harms way as the arena has a higher kill count than all the fighters that ever
take part! The walls become alive with the constant motion of circular saw’s and gouts of flame. If that’s not bad
enough then 4 sentinels in the arena would surely raise an eyebrow to even the most capable of fighters.

The music played on.

Sheikal the huntress had many fallen at her feet. Gore covered the metal floor making it slippery and sticky
underfoot. The excorio crouched beside a fallen textrix. She always admired the power of the textrix. The way
it’s corruptive DNA made it more powerful, more deadly and more unforgiving. She had hunted this one since
she first knew it was going to be attending this War-breed event and had relished in its slaughter. It had left a
bloodied reminder along her neck near her artery but this pain she also relished.

She looked up to see two more fighters in defensive formation closing in.

Strike after strike hit thin air as Sheikal evaded the flurry of attacks. Uncertainty whispered in the wind of those
blades as she spun backwards out of harms way with ease.
The human deflector and bruiser cautiously advanced. The piercer kept them at bay with a couple of jabs of her
pole-arm. They parried the incoming attacks but thought better of closing the distance any further. She cared little
for hitting them as she wanted them right where they stood, with the blood of her fallen under their feet. She lunged
forward with a forward thrust hitting the bruiser in his shoulder and followed with a swift overhead strike coming
down onto the deflectors shield with a shower of sparks. The deflector broke formation and came rushing in with
his shield, buzzing with a bloodied build-in chainsaw. The excorio somersaulted over the incoming fighter causing
him to lose his footing and fall on the slippery ground as he tried to turn. Sheikal landed within arms reach from
the bruiser who hit out with his mechanical arm breaking one of her ribs. She screamed with sadistic joy as she
felt a rush of pain and struck out with her greave mounted dagger. The human raised his mechanical arm too late
as she punched the blade deeper into the wound in his shoulder. With a jerk she snapped off the blade leaving it within
the bruiser’s body.
With a great burst of speed she spun with the flair and grace of dancer. Her blade tipped chains flew-out causing
a blur of metallic death. The chain piercing's pulled on her skin as the weighted wicked hooks and barbed blades
shredded the bruiser and deflector. The deflector tried to defend against the death-spin but to no avail as the
chains wrapped around his shield and ripped his body bit by bit, snagging and pulling flesh apart. Both fighters
dropped as she finished her spin in a crouched position.

She noticed her face on one of the vid-screens and gave a subtle smile as the music played on......

Swift Kill Grand Slam

Swift kill grand slam is quickly becoming a family favourite as many troupes can take part and old rivalry is
renewed amongst the fighters. This grand slam version is even faster and more brutal than its little brother and
fighters pounce on those that show weakness, attacking in hopes of claiming the win.

Number of ludi: 3 to 6
Number of fighters per ludi: 3 different classes per player (players choice)

Race/class restrictions: None

Arena card alterations: None

Time/turn limit: 10 game turns per bout. Use the event cards to determine how long each bout takes and keep
a record of it. After each bout, reshuffle the event deck and start again.
If no fighters score a win within this time the bout is a draw.

Event rules: A series of 3 bouts. The first kill/win within each bout wins that bout.
1 to 3 turn kills classed as a 7 point win,
4 to 6 turns is a 3 point win
7 to 10 turns is a 2 point win.
Fighters that draw within a bout get 1 point.

Results:
Outright win: The player with the highest number of points by the end of the 3 bouts wins. All those fighters on
the winning side that survived can claim a win allowing them to gain experience points and gifts. If the fastest
scored a 7 point win in a bout then he/she could be the world record holder! See below.

Other factors

More than one fighter on the same winning side has scored the same amount of high end points. Roll randomly
to see who actually got the fastest time.

Draw: If two or more players have the same amount of points scored then a face-off bout is played. Each
player picks the fighter that won the points to play one more bout known as a face-off bout The winner of this
final bout wins the event.

Optional rule: If you don’t have time to play the face-off bout then each of the players in the event rolls 1d10.
Add each sides total respect and fame of the fighters that took part. The highest total claims the win as the
crowds chants the winning sides name.

Bomb Tag
Bomb tag is a game of ‘tag, your on’ but with a difference. Fatality matches always draw a crowd and bomb
tag is no exception. It’s also a refreshing change from seeing the normal brutal match ups as the crowd know
any time soon someone’s head is going to disappear in gouts of blood as the bomb collar times out and
explodes!

Number of ludi: 3+ Number of fighters per ludi: 1

Race/class restrictions: None
Each player rolls 1d10 to see which fighter classes are needed for the event.
1 Stinger
2 Breaker
3 Bruiser
4 Di-sector
5 Deflector
6 Piercer
7 Incapacitator
8 to 10. players choice

Arena card alterations: None. Time/turn limit: 15 turns maximum (special see event rules)

Event rules: Create a pile of power-ups and regen’s from the chaos pads assortment. Only these can be used
for this event. Every time a chaos pad is made active another randomly appears at the start of the new game
turn.
All fighters start on the same lift overly. Once the arena card has been resolved, randomly determine to see
whose bomb collar becomes active. This fighter is now ‘on’ and only has three turns to transfer the activation to
someone else by tagging them effectively de-activating their own collar.

Tagging: In order to ‘tag’ another fighter you need to make a successful hit with a range 0 attack. No damage
needs to get though in order to pass on the activation. Once passed on the timer is reset back to three turns but
only starts counting down at the beginning of the following game turn.

How to win: Once a fighter reaches the end of the round with a counter of 0 or a total of 15 turns has passed
then his/ her bomb activates blowing off his/ her head in a spectacular fashion. The explosion may well hurt
others in the area as it has a ranged effect of 0 with a damage rating of 1d10 to those nearby. The fighter that
last tagged the now headless unfortunate claims the win and the kill. Obviously no roll is made on the ‘hands of
fate’

Defeating the ‘on’ fighter: Doing this activates the attacker’s bomb ending his/ her life in a shower of red rain. If
only one fighter survives then they claim the win. If more than one fighter survives then roll randomly to see
whose collar becomes active.

Results: The player that claims the win takes the lions share.

Lions share: as normal based on the events entertainment total (bearing in mind this is classed as a ‘Fatality’
