Earth Day is the largest, most widely celebrated international environmental
event. Earth Day helps celebrate Earths unique place in the universe. It is
the only planet in our solar system teeming with incredible biodiversity.
Learning about and protecting this biodiversity is what Earth Day is all
about. People all over the world celebrate to protect plants and animals and
to clean up the world we live in. Most people celebrate Earth Day on pril

Peace 1ell in a ceremony celebrating the protection o% the environment and
o% Earths many species.

+here are many di%%erent things each o% us can do to help protect species, /eep
Earth clean, and %i2 damage that has been done. 3or e2ample, using %ewer
natural resources will help ma/e sure there are enough resources to go

the things we all need, li/e clean water, air, and soil.

5hen we dont use resources in a responsible way, we may create pollution
that can damage water, soil, air, and other parts o% the environment. 3or
instance, certain types o% air pollution have already created a hole in our
planets o4one layer. +he o4one layer /eeps us sa%e %rom the suns harm%ul
ultraviolet rays.
Most scientists believe that as more air pollution is made, the o4one layer will
become thinner and more holes will develop. +his will allow even more
ultraviolet rays to reach Earth. thinner o4one layer may result in harm to
people, animals, and plants.

long with pollution, things li/e habitat destruction and poaching are causing
some species to become endangered. 3inding ways to protect and save
endangered species is a primary goal o% conservation groups. Earth Day
celebrations are a great opportunity %or these groups to teach us all about the

2. Plant trees. +rees help /eep the air clean.
3. Do not litter. Pic/ up litter on the sidewal/, street, beach, or
riverban/. +his will help /eep the environment %ree o%
contaminants.

garden. +his is a good way to cut down on the amount o% trash that
goes into a land%ill. s a bonus, compost helps create rich soil %or
gardening.
