Professional Development Plan:

Rationale: Upon completing last week’s assignment, I noticed that one of the biggest problems with
technology facing our campus is the ignorance of its teachers. The teachers at NSMS do not use
technology efficiently because they have not been properly trained; which I find unacceptable because
goal two, objective two of our campus improvement plan states “NSMS will provide additional computer
training for all faculty so they may enhance their lessons and communicate more effectively.” While
there are some trainings offered, teacher success is not measured and are often not implemented;
therefore I have created a plan to where teachers learn how to use technology and have an opportunity to
practice it before the students even enter the classroom for the first day of school.

Two Weeks Before School Starts

• Technology specialist will discuss STaR Chart with faculty and explain the importance. This
way, teachers can see the goal before being expected to implement. They will also see where we
stand and discuss various ways to improve those scores.
• Technology specialist will then give examples of technology integration using various methods
which teachers will be required to have used in the classroom by the end of the school year.
• After the specialist’s presentation, he/she will instruct each teacher to come up with a lesson plan
using each type of technology he/she used.

One Week Before School Starts

• Each day during this “professional development week, teachers will present their lessons and
upload them to a blog that gives the whole campus access.
• Teachers will be expected to use each of the technologies designated by the specialist by the end
of the school year. Every lesson will be uploaded to the blog.
Evaluation Plan:

In order to evaluate the effectiveness of my professional development plan, there must be

a way to evaluate whether or not teachers are doing the required assignments. As
previously stated, teachers are expected to create a lesson based on the technology they
were assigned. Part one of the evaluation is the lesson presentation to staff. At this time,
co-workers can collaborate to determine whether or not the lesson would be a success in
the classroom, as well as use this time to make changes and/or suggestions to the plan.
Once everyone has presented, each teacher is to use each type of technology by the end
of the year. After the teacher has completed a lesson using one type of technology, he/she
must post the lesson to the blog and write a reflection piece to be turned into the
technology specialist. As the reflections come in, the specialist will check each one off
next to that teacher’s name. This is an easy way for the specialist to determine whether or
not teachers are meeting the goals of the district, and at that time, can offer suggestions
for improvement.
