Our days are lled with themes. From the sheer beauty of simplicity, to the weight of tragedy,
its impossible to miss the turning pages in the chapters of our lives.
Take a simple commute home from work. A gray, rainy morning with talk radio playing in the
background of your car engines drone, and a mountain of papers to grade on your classroom
desk. How do you feel? Now, take the same drive, same car, but change the moment. The sun
is shining bright, windows downfavorite song by The Beatles (Im assuming everyone loves
those talented Brits) echoing from your speakers. Feel different? Of course you do.

Metaphors are a great mechanism to help drive out ideas. So, whats a good metaphor for
themes? Shoes. I know what you are thinking, but hear me out. Shoes are like themes, because
they change based on the spirit of the activity. A trip to the beach? Youll be wearing ip ops
for sure. An early morning jog? Those trusty running shoes will do the trick. And, for a night on
the town with the girls, its time to pull those black strappy heels from their box in the closet.
Ultimately, the theme, like your shoes, must be chosen by you. But that doesnt mean we
cant provide some inspiration! Let this be your guide to getting those creative juices owing.
