Monthly Reflection

"God cannot fill what is full. He can fill only emptiness--deep poverty--and your 'yes' [to Jesus] is the
beginning of being or becoming empty. It is not how much we really 'have' to give--but how empty we
are--so that we can receive fully in our life and let him live his life in us. In you today, he wants to relive
his complete submission to his father--allow him to do so. Take away your eyes from yourself and
rejoice that you have nothing," Mother Teresa, Come Be My Light, New York: Doubleday, p. 275

PSM Office

CCUSA has produced three new publications to assist you in you ministry. Reflections on The Joy of the
Gospel For Those Serving in Ministry sheds light on the Pope's apostolic exhortation and how it
challenges our ministry teams. Spanish and English prayers devoted to the unaccompanied children
crisis on the U.S.-Mexican border may be found here. Text and graphics in Health and Hope Report is
derived from the most recent Catholic Charities annual survey data.
Fall 2014 brings two parish social ministry trainings: "The Joy of the Gospel: Challenging the Scandal of
Poverty," October 24-25; Little Falls, Minnesota and "Rooted in the Gospel: Bringing Christ to Others,"
November 14-15, Charlottesville, Virginia; November 14-15. Contact Tina Baldera for more information
on all CCUSA social ministry training.

Here is a way to invite parishioners to assist with the crisis of the unaccompanied children on the U.S.-
Mexico border. Catholic Charities USA has partnered with First Book to provide migrant children with
brand new books, and we need your help! For just $10, you can provide four children with one brand
new book each. While these children are grateful for fresh clothes and food in their bellies, a book is
something that will bring comfort as they continue their journey.
CCUSA and CRS have started "You Did It For Me." Catholic parishes can receive a 100 word story with
graphics for its bulletin, Website, or newsletter detailing the good work of one of the two organizations
every week. For more information about these weekly "good news" stories, contact Steve Herro.

CCUSA and other partners invite your continued participation in Caritas Internationalis' campaign "One
Human Family, Food for All." Engage in the Week of Action, Oct. 12-17. See also a working
bibliography with references to items for personal and group study, a checklist of personal
action activities, and a resource list for prayer and liturgy resources for your consideration.
