DESCRIPTION
The Addressable Contact Input Device (AI) is a
SmartOne

Field Device. This component is an intelli-
gent initiating device containing its own microproces-
sor and memory which interfaces to all standard
contact type fire alarm devices. The initiating device
circuit is wired as NFPA Style B (Class B).
Two styles of AIs are available: An AI, N/O for inter-
facing to normally open contact devices and an AI,
N/C for interfacing normally closed trouble contact
devices. The N/C is not considered to be an initiating
device circuit.
The AI is field programmable using the control panel
keypad or the Hand-Held Programmer. The owner
location message and reporting type can be custom-
ized by the use of a programming utility utilized with
the control panel.
The AI is fully supervised and continuously monitors
the integrity of the following: Continuity of contact
interface wiring; Device/Panel Communications;
Power/Communication voltage; Internal power supply;
and Memory status.
The AI can be mounted in a North American 2-1/2-in.
(64 mm) deep 1-gang box, or standard 4-in. square
box 1-1/2-in. (38 mm) deep with 4-in. cover. The AI
terminal block will accept #14, 16 and 18 AWG wire
(1.5 mm
2
, 1.0 mm
2
& 0.75 mm
2
respectively) with size
#18 being a minimum requirement.

1. Maximum 25 resistance per wire for initiating circuit.
For a total circuit wiring resistance of 50 max.
2. Terminal connection supports wiring from #18 AWG
(0.75 mm
2
) to #14 AWG (1.5 mm
2
)
3. Refer to Control Panel Manual for addressable loop wir-
ing specification.
4. Maximum 10 VDC @ 1 mA.
5. This module will not support 2-wire smoke detectors.
6. N/O initiating device circuit is NFPA Class B/Style B.
7. Rating on LED circuit: 26 VDC Max. 7 mA Max. If not
used leave terminals open circuit.
8. All wiring is power limited and supervised.
9. The AI, N/C Device is intended for use within control
equipment providing the normally closed trouble
contact and is not considered an initiating device circuit.
10. The initiating device and remote LED annunciator (if
used) must be located in the same room as the AI.
11. Use Listed 10K Ohm End-Of-Line Resistor,
P/N 06-129025-003, in EOL Resistor Kit,
P/N 70-411001-005.

Strip 1/4 in. from the ends of all wires that connect to
the terminal block of the module.
CAUTION
Exposing more than 1/4 in. of wire
may cause a ground fault. Exposing
less than 1/4 in. of wire may result
in a faulty connection.
Ground faults can be caused by a
zero impedance path between SLC
field conductor and earth ground.

a. The AI Device is shipped from the factory as
an assembled component and is not field-
serviceable.
b. It is recommended that the AI Device
address be programmed prior to installation.
Refer to the control panel manual for device
address programming.
c. Make all wiring connections as shown in the
wiring diagram.
d. Ensure that all wiring is free of opens, shorts,
and ground faults.
e. Verify that all wires are insulated up to the
terminal block, and that each terminal screw
is tight.
f. Mount the module to the electrical box using
the provided bracket. The AI must be
installed vertical with the terminal block con-
nections facing up. Installing the AI with the
terminal block connections facing down or
sideways is considered unacceptable.
g. Using two 6-32 machine screws, mount the
wall plate or pull station to the electrical box.
