Data Handling Using TL3 Jig [REVISION 2]

SYMPTOM
A TL3 Board has been made available to facilitate the data handling.
SOLUTION
Follow the procedure described below. The TL3 Board has the following functionalities:
NVM reading and writing.
Flash upgrade of the main microcontroller.
PROCEDURE
1. Requirements
Pentium III, 130 MHz.
Available USB port.
TL3 Jig Interface (9-948-020-98).
Software package.
2. Set-up
In the rear cover there is a small removable door that gives access to the service connector. Strengthen the
supplied flat cable by attaching a piece of hard plastic (e.g. from a printed circuit board) to the bottom side. In this
way the rear cover does not need to be removed.

3. Drivers
The TL3 Board is an USB-type of interface offering advantages such as "plug & play" and "hot swapping". The
USB driver can be downloaded from the web site http://www.ftdichip.com. On the main page of this web site,
select [Drivers] [VCP] and download the appropriate VCP (Virtual COM Port) driver for the FT232 device
corresponding to the used PC operating system.
It is also possible to download and unzip the attachment "DRIVER_USB_TL3.ZIP" in a temporary file. As soon
as the TL3 Board is connected via USB, the operating system recognizes the new device. Install it by following
the Windows instructions. If necessary, direct the search to the location where the temporary file has been
unzipped.
4. Flashing the Main Microcontroller (Fujitsu)
4-1. Unzip the attachment "MAIN_MICRO_WRITING_PROCESS.ZIP" in the folder C:\WAX2 on the PC. Also unzip
the attachment "TM****E.ZIP" to Technical Bulletin 06TV112R* to the same folder.
4-2. Run the Flash application by clicking on the Flash icon, and define the parameters as follows.
1. Go to [Set Environment] under [Option] and set the COM port exactly as it can be found under [Settings],
[Control Panel], [Hardware Ports], [USB Port].
2. In the field [Target Microcontoller] select "MB91F305".
3. In the field [Crystal Frequency] select "16.5MHz".
4. In the field [Hex File] select "TM****E.mhx".

5. Configuring TL3 Board and FTV
5-1. Switch off the FTV.
5-2. Connect the flat cable to the service connector (ECS bus).
5-3. Set all the TL3 Board switches in the same position.

5-4. Switch on the FTV.
5-5. Transfer the control to the PC by switching on the [MAIN FLASH] switch and pressing the [MAIN RST] button
on the TL3 Board. The screen contents disappear and change to black.

5-6. Click on [Full Operation (D+E+B+P)] to start the data transfer.

5-7. The Flash program starts and the below window appears. Press [OK] to continue the process.

5-8. The whole process lasts approximately 10 minutes.

5-9. When the process finishes, the following dialogue box appears. Press [Ok].

5-10. Complete the process by setting the [MAIN FLASH] switch on the TL3 Board to its initial position and
pressing the [MAIN RST] button to transfer the control to the TV again. The picture will reappear.

5-11. Disconnect the flat cable from the service connector (ECS bus).
5-12. Check whether the process has been completed by entering the Service Menu and verifying the uploaded
software version.
6. Updating NVM
6-1. Unzip the "TM****ECODE2.ZIP" and "TD****E.ZIP" files attached to Technical Bulletin 06TV112R* in the
directory "WAX2/CODE2", and ensure that all files (ecp, vma, code2.exe) are in the same folder.
6-2. Set all the TL3 Board switches in the same position.

6-3. Switch off the FTV.
6-4. Connect the flat cable to the service connector (ECS bus).
6-5. Switch on the FTV.

6-6. Start the "CODE2.EXE" application by double-clicking on the icon. In case of a correct configuration, the
data of the connected unit will appear as shown below.

6-7. Optionally the serial number can be written as explained below.
6-7-1. Update the NVM as explained in points 6-1 through 6-6.
6-7-2. Access the NVM locations related to the serial number by selecting [Edit(E)] and then [Edit Table(T)].

6-7-3. Selecting [serial_no] shows the serial number in 10-bit code. For instance, the serial number 4381194
corresponds to the ASCII codes 52 / 51 / 56 /49 / 49 / 57 / 52 / 0 / 0 / 0 as per the following ASCII table. Note that
the ASCII code 0 is not shown on the screen.

Digit ASCII Code
0 48
1 49
2 50
3 51
4 52
5 53
6 54
7 55
8 56
9 57
7. Writing NVM Data
7-1. Select [File], [Write NVM Image[File ->NVM](W)], [With verify read].

7-2. Select the appropriate EEP file from the attachment "TD****E.ZIP" to Technical Bulletin 06TV112R*. Note that
the two digits following "TD****E" indicate the TV size whereas the addition _WCG denotes WAX2 V2000 models.

7-3. After selecting the appropriate EEP file and clicking [Open], the subsequent window offers the choice to use
the mask file or not. The purpose of this file is to protect the adjusted values in the NVM from being overwritten.

7-4. When selecting [No], the NVM data are overwritten by the initial data from the selected file. In this way the
adjustment data of the set are lost.
7-5. When selecting [Yes], a windows opens from which the "Adjust_all.vma" file can be selected. This file puts a
mask on specific model data such as white balance, personal settings, etc. and keeps them in the NVM as adjusted
at the factory.

7-6. The window [NVM Access Setting] then supplies information on the location of the written data. Select [OK]
without changing anything.

7-7. When the writing process finishes, the message "Write completed" appears. Select [OK].

7-8. As the stored NVM data are put on hold in a part of the memory, process the new NVM data by pressing the
[MAIN RST] button on the TL3 Board. Another method is to switch off the FTV, disconnect the TL3 Board, and
switch on the FTV again by using the mains switch. Enter the Service Menu as explained on page 25 of the Service
Manual and check whether the appropriate file has been uploaded.
8. Transferring NVM Data from a Working Set to the PC

9. Possible Errors and Solutions
The presence of a USB connection device is automatically detected by the Windows operating system. Windows
makes a virtual COM port number that must correspond to the setting in the [Edit] window located under the [Tools]
menu in the Code2 program. The COM port number can be found in the [Device Manager] of the PC; attention, for
this the TL3 Boards needs to be connected.
