ELIMINATING BARRIERS
FOR SNORING & SLEEP
APNEA TREATMENT
If dental practices were able to prescribe
treatment to every patient who snored
or suffered from obstructive sleep apnea
(OSA), business would boom. Thats
because a whopping 27% of the U.S.
population snore. But too often we hear
from dentists that common treatment
options have big barriers for patient
acceptance including high costs, insurance
acceptance and discomfort during use.
The result is a missed opportunity in terms
of improving patient lives and expanding
business.
An Easier Way to Treat Sleep Apnea
and Snoring
In 2013, Airway Management, a leader in
helping people who suffer from disordered
breathing while sleeping, released the
myTAP oral appliance. Clinically proven
to treat snoring and mild to moderate
sleep apnea, the myTAP comes as a pre-
assembled stock unit meant to be precision
ftted in the dental offce using unique
thermoplastic materials. This gives the
myTAP a ft and feel of a custom device but
by defnition is not one, since a mold of the
patients teeth is not being made.
The result is a low-cost customizable
device, eliminating the need for dental
impressions, bite records and dental labs
in the process of treating sleep apnea and
snoring with an oral appliance. For these
same reasons, the myTAP is available as
an immediate treatment option and can
be ftted in just 15 minutes. As all dentists
know, when you reduce the time and
costs of treatment, you increase patient
acceptance.
Learn More About myTAP
While oral appliances are still a relatively
new option in treating sleep apnea in
patients, they are quickly growing in
popularity. The myTAP is no exception
and we at Patterson are the exclusive
distributor, you wont fnd this unique
treatment option from any dental supply
company other than Patterson.
I have access to videos and resources to
show how to integrate this cool product in
to your practice.

STERILIZER MAINTENANCE
TIPS
Along with the compressor and vacuum, the
sterilizer is the lifeblood of your practice.
Without sterile instruments, you cannot
practice; so it is imperative that your
sterilizer keeps functioning well.
The following list is of necessity generic
but should be applicable to most sterilizers.
Consult your owners manual for the specifc
recommendations that pertain to your
particular make and model of sterilizer.
Feel free to print this list and post it in your
sterilization area for easy consultation by
your staff.
Daily
1. Clean the door gasket with a soft cloth
or sponge and mild (not anti-bacterial)
liquid soap.
2. While cleaning, examine the door
gasket for signs of cracking, peeling, or
wear.
3. Drain the waste tank (for steam or
chemical vapor sterilizers only).

REFINANCING EXISTING DEBT TO
GENERATE CASH FLOW
If youre like most, the very idea of refnancing your debt
in the midst of a busy career and home life is enough to
give you heart palpitations! But the truth is that if you
are carrying debt that is over four years old, you may be
paying more interest than is necessary. You might be losing
cash fow that could be put to work growing your practice,
increasing reserve funds, or simply lowering your monthly
overhead.
With todays historically low interest rates, refnancing
debt to free up cash fow can be a good business decision.
Lets say you could save approximately $1,500 per month
by refnancing your four-year-old practice start-up loan
at todays lower interest rates. What could that additional
cash fow mean for your business?
TECHNOLOGY INVESTMENT
You might use your new-found funds to leverage the
purchase of new dental equipment or offce systems
that allow you to expand your services and make your
practice more competitive. At the same time, you could
take advantage of the IRS Section 179 tax deduction for
business equipment purchases, making your investment
work that much harder.
RETIREMENT FUNDING
Who doesnt need a little extra income to help boost their
retirement account? With discipline, the added cash fow
you realize each month from refnancing your debt can
work to grow a nest egg for your future retirement. Consult
with your CPA or investment advisor for guidance on the
ideal investments for your situation.
ACCELERATED DEBT PAYOFF
Some doctors take advantage of lower interest rates to
accelerate their debt reduction program and become a debt
free practice more quickly. Lets face it nothing increases
cash fow like paying off debt!

INSPIRING AND EMPOWERING
YOUR DENTAL TEAM
by Nadia Pulcova

Encourage people with inspiring and positive
comments since no one likes to be criticized.
The single and ultimate aim of any dental team
is Patient Satisfaction.
The outstanding performance of your dental team depends
on the personality of the professionals working in that
dental offce. To inspire a dental team there are some
ground rules to be followed religiously in the dental offce.
These ground rules are as enumerated below.
Sometimes people feel they are out of the team since
they are directly not involved. It is important to recognize
people who are working in the background. Encourage
everyone to contribute and get actively involved in
the growth of dental offce. Make them feel that they
are important. In a dental team everyone is important
regardless of his or her task in day to day dentistry.
Autocratic and dictator types of leadership in the dental
offce will create tense situations, which will further lead
to chaos. Inspire and convince them to work for the
reputation of the team.
Encourage people with inspiring and positive comments
since no one likesto be criticized. Single and ultimate aim
of any dental team is Patient Satisfaction. Create such an
environment in the dental offce that patient should love to
visit again.
Empower team members to take initiative and do their
work. It will create a culture to stay positive in the
offce. Encourage no back biting and no blame culture
and promote team members to air their views for the
betterment of the team. Newly inducted qualifed co-
workers should be encouraged to enlighten others with
new skills and information. Ensure mutual respect among
team members. Empowerment of team members will bring
out the best performance from team members and that
will tremendously contribute to the growth of the dental
practice.
An inspired and empowered dental team is important for
the success and growth of the dental offce. When a dental
team enjoys success it is benefcial to everyone.

SCHICK 33: A DIFFERENT SENSOR,
NO MATTER HOW YOU LOOK AT IT
To achieve maximum patient comfort, Schick 33s
designers focused on minimizing the non-active area of
the sensor. They rounded off the corners and edges of the
outer casing without cutting the corners of the active area,
thereby preserving the sensors ability to obtain critical
diagnostic information. In addition, the sensor is available
in three different sizes to ensure maximum imaging area
for a variety of patient sizes.
You have got to check this out. Ask me for a demo in your
offce and compare the image quality and reliability. Im
confdent you will be impressed.
FLOSSING YOUR FANGS
Any vampire or werewolf will tell you that his or her teeth
are the most important tools of the trade. When something
Floss removes plaque and debris that stick to teeth and
gums and in between teeth, polishes tooth surfaces and
controls bad breath (especially important for werewolves).
By fossing your teeth daily, you increase the chance of
keeping them for a lifetime and decrease the chance of
getting gum disease.
Most people cite lack of time as a reason for not fossing.
But you shouldnt wait for the next full moon to foss. The
AGD says fossing even two or three times a week has its
benefts and is far better than not fossing at all.

Crest Sensi-Stop Strips are thin,
fexible strips that contain oxalate
gel on one side. The unique strip is
designed to cover the outer gumline
of sensitive teeth. This gives the
key ingredient time to form a lasting
barrier that blocks dentinal tubules
to help relieve sensitivity.
is that important, you want to give it
the best care you can. So for all the
little vampires and werewolves and
the adult vampires and werewolves,
too Halloween is a great time to
emphasize that fossing is one of the
most important things you can do to
keep your teeth in tiptop shape.
Just how important is fossing?According
to the Academy of General Dentistry
(AGD), fossing is the single most
important weapon against plaque.
The Schick 33 sensor was
designed with three key
elements in mind: to provide
the greatest image resolution
possible, to be robust enough
to withstand the wear and
tear of daily practice use, and
to provide the highest level
of patient comfort without
sacrifcing imaging area.
