tcpdump is a common packet analyzer that runs under the command line. It allows the user to intercept
and display TCP/IP and other packets being transmitted or received over a network to which the
computer is attached. Distributed under the BSD license, tcpdump is free software.
Obtain a copy of the appropriate version of tcpdump for the device. 1.
Download for Sarix platform cameras: http://productsupport.pelco.com
/action.php?kt_path_info=ktcore.actions.document.view&fDocumentId=9616
2.
Download for Endura Linux devices: http://productsupport.pelco.com
/action.php?kt_path_info=ktcore.actions.document.view&fDocumentId=10051
3.
Extract the downloaded zip file and place all files in an accessible location. 4.
Log into Endura Utilities using your admin login [Default username: admin, password: admin] 5.
Locate and Right click the device. 6.
Select SCP, then select Copy Files to 7.
Browse to and select the required file and click the Open button. 8.
Enter the appropriate destination directory in the Remote Path textbox and click the OK button.
Most devices require just the tcpdump file, but some devices such as the VCD5202 and the
UDI5000-CAM require the libcrypto.so.0.9.7 and libpcap.so.0 files.
Required files and associated directories:
/usr/sbin/tcpdump
/usr/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.7
/usr/lib/libpcap.so.0
9.
Right click the device in Endura Utilities and select SSH into [Default username: root,
password: pel2899100]
10.
Use the chmod 755 command for the tcpdump file.
Example:
chmod 755 /usr/sbin/tcpdump
11.
To do a quick search to see if SM Locator traffic is being received, run the following from the command
line: tcpdump | grep 2901
12.
For information on how to use tcpdump please see Lessons Learned Article #10743: Obtain a packet
capture from a Linux device.
13.
Note: Do not attempt these steps on a first-generation Pelco encoder, such as the NET5301T or
NET5308T. Doing so may break SSH functionality.
