situated opposite the to#n hall on strada .argului.
*t the 5eginning o$ the 7reat -ar in 191+ as !omania #as occupied 5y the russian armies,
Livovschi entrusted his harmacy to an administrator. 6e #as dra$ted as 8a9or in the *rmy:s
8edical Corps 5eing posted to the 8ilitary 6; 6ospital nr +, alongside 4rs Varlam, *mza
<ianu and Victor 7omoiu.

>n the #a,e o$ the advance o$ the 7erman armies, 8a9or Livovschi commandeered a train to
evacuate re$ugees $rom Buzau to ?orthern 8oldavia #hich #as not yet occupied 5y the
7ermans. 4uring the rout o$ the !omanian *rmies Vicentiu:s $amily su$$ered severe losses
#ith a 5rother ,illed at the Caineni ass in the Carpathians and another 5rother su$$ering $rom
shell shoc, o$ #hich he died later.
/n his #ay to ?orthern 8oldavia, Vicentiu:s train #as diverted $rom Buzau to Brasov, a city
o$ .ransylvania #hich #as under imminent threat o$ occupation 5y the 7ermans. 6ere he
managed to organize the evacuation o$ ",333 #ounded soldiers $rom the 8ilitary 6ospital in
Brasov and move them to the relative sa$ety o$ the unoccupied territory, no mean $eat given
the chaos o$ the country and the total lac, o$ logistic resources.

4uring the #ar, Vicentiu:s $amily 9oined him in 8oldavia, settling in the village o$ odul
>loaiei, near >asi, #here the youngest daughter 8ariana #as 5orn.
>n 1919 he #as promoted to Lieut Colonel and on 5eing demo5ilised he 5ecame a Colonel $or
his services in organizing the %chool o$ 7as -ar$are &%coala de 7aze' at Chisnau in 1919.
*$ter the #ar he 5ecame resident o$ the *ssociation o$ 4emo5ilised /$$icers, &0/! G
0niunea /$iterilor in !ezerva' having as secretary his cousin Victor %tanescu. 6e #as
resident o$ the !ed Cross, 4eputy 8ayor o$ Buzau, resident o$ the *ssociation A*micii
*rteiB & Friends o$ the *rts', #hich had a theatre and an orchestra and $ounded #ith mem5ers
o$ his $amily the to#n:s $irst musical ;uartet.
/n his return $rom the 7reat -ar, 5et#een 1923 and 19)1 Vicentiu Livovschi too, an active
part in the

*s 4eputy 8ayor o$ Buzau, he ta5led the motion o$ providing the to#n:s $irst modern $ire

Boyscout movement &Cohorta Buzau', #hose Commander he #as. *s such he organized at
8amaia, annual summer camps $or the 5oyscouts. .hese are mentioned 5y 8ircea Eliade in
his A8emoirs o$ the EFuinoIB and in his novel A!omanul unui adolescent miopB. Vicentiu
Livovschi $urther served as 7overnor o$ the Boys .echnical College &Liceul >ndustrial de
Baieti, Buzau' .

con$iscated and nationalised in <une 19)1 5y the communist regime. Li,e the entire
pro$essional elite o$ a country #hich he served #ell, he #as le$t in his retirement #ithout any
means o$ survival other then depending on the $inancial help o$ his $our children. 6e #as
luc,y not to die a political prisoner during the #itch hunt #hich destroyed most o$ his
generation( although living at the limit o$ poverty he remained to the end optimistic and
digni$ied until his demise in Bucharest, in the 19=3s.
