THE FIELD IS WHITE UNTO HARVEST

The first missionaries of the Christian Churches and Churches of

of Christ to go to the Amazon Valley (in 1952) were Mr. and Mrs. Bill
Loft (who have recently moved to Brasilia, the new federal capitol).
Missionaries now working in the Amazon Valley of Brazil are:
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Smith; Mr. and Mrs. Dick Robison;
Mr. and Mrs. Clint Thomas; Mr. and Mrs. Art-Carter;
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bartlebaugh; Mr. Lew (bass.
These missionaries preach the gospel of Christ, help establish churches,
operate a Children's home, and train young Brazilian men to preach.
Eight churches have been established, and several hundred people won to
Christ.
SEND FORTH LABORERS
David and Beverly Bayless are going to the Amazon Valley on Faith
faith in Christian people who cannot go themselves, but are willing to help
send others; and faith in God and Christ who promised, "all these things
will be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33).
Missionaries must take many things to work with; some of them are ex
pensive, but necessary. A partial list is:
A Pickup Truck (best transportation) $1800.00
Shipping and duty on truck 2000.00
Tj'pewriter (Portuguese characters) 150.00
Mimeograph and supplies 250.00
Household, other supplies and shipping 3000.00
We put a high value on things necessary to use in the winning of souls
to Christ. What value can we put on the souls of lost men and women?
The Christian Churches of Albuquerque are trying to obtain living link
of $300.00 per month, as well as service link of $200.00 per month from
the churches of New Mexico. Other pledges are needed in order to get to
Brazil with necessary equipment and begin working.
FORWARDING AGENT FOR FUNDS
Your "one time gift" or your "regular monthly gift" will help send the
Baylesses to the Amazon Valley. Send all gifts to J. FRED BAYLESS,
1901 ANDERSON PLACE, SE, ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO.
Also write to Brother Bayless for additional information or slides of the
work being done in the Amazon Valley.
CHRIST FOR THE AMAZON VALLEY
PRESENTING
Missionaries David and Beverly Bayless
David and Beverly Bayless are ready to go to the Amazon Valley as
missionaries. They are products of Christian homes and Ozark Bible Coll
ege, Joplin, Mo. They are worthy and eager to go. Just when they can go
depends upon Christian people of the United States.
David ministered to the church in Severy, Kansas for two years; worked
with missionaries in the Amazon Valley in the summer of 1957, and served
as missionary in the Christian Service Camps during the summer of 1958.
Beverly and David were married December 21, 1958. They hope to leave
for Brazil by October, 1959.
ABOUT THE BAYLESSES
David and Beverly are sincere, consecrated,
adequately prepared for work in this mission
field^the Amazon Valley of Brazil.
David speaks Spanish, and has studied Greek
four years in Ozark Bible College. Also, he
studied Portuguese in preparation for his worn
in Brazil. During the summer of 1957 he was
able to preach in Portuguese in the Amazon
Valley.
In May, 1958, David was graduated from Oz
ark Bible College, with the degree of B. A.
(Ministerial). He has continued his study to re
ceive the degree of Th. B. in May, 1959.
Beverly attended business college after high
school, before enrolling in Ozark Bible College,
where she completes her second year in May, 1959. She has
been active in the student missionary club.
Both of these young people are ready to go to Brazil, and
are eager to serve there. They are worthy of and need your
supportyour prayers and your gifts NOW.
If you cannot go, please help send this young couple, who de
sire to go in compliance with the Lord's command. Don't delay!
Help now!
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
In regular meeting of the Elders of the Ridgecrest Christian Church
unanimous endorsement was given David M. Bayless, who is going out
from this church as a missionary to the Amazon Valley in Brazil.
Also, it was voted that Ridgecrest Christian Church go on record as the
designated sponsor of David and Beverly Bayless, in their missionary
venture.
Since the Ridgecrest Christian Church is not able wholly to finance the
project, it is asking other churches and individual Christians to help with
gifts, with the Ridgecrest Christian Church doing all it can also with
regular gifts.
Prayerfully in Christ,

ABOUT THE AMAZON VALLEY
False religion has prevailed for 400
years in Brazil. Superstition and pagan
practices are spreading rapidly. Millions
of people in the Amazon Valley, two-thirds
the size of the United States, live in hund
reds of villages and tribes, and have not
heard the gospel of Christ. They will never
hear it unless someone goes to them with
the truth. The Lord willing, we will work
directly among these people, teaching and
preaching; and, indirectly, training young
Brazilians to preach to their own people.
Before going to Brasilia, Brother Loft
purchased land on which to place needed
buildings for the Belem Bible Seminary.
One building is now complete and some
training of the young Brazilians has be
gun. With the entrance of more workers,
this work will go forward rapidly.
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
David Bayless is naturally endowed with missionary qualities. Reared
in a preacher's home, he knows the problems of the ministry. Trained in a
Bible College, he is equipped to teach the Gospel. Majoring in Missions,
and having spent a summer in South America, he has prepared thoroughly.
He is a natural linguist and will be able to go to work immediately on the
field.
Above all, he loves the Lord and has concern for the lost. These two
alone would drive him to serve Christ.
I am happy to recommend him to the brethren.
Yours in His service,
Don Earl Boatman, President

Since our April "Mews Letter" we have been busy with many things, preparing to go
to the Ajnazon Valley of Brazil just as soon as you will send \2S. Total monthly pledges
to the Link Funds are now $249*00. But we should have a total of $900.00 before we go.
The MEED for $500.00 per month as given above is this: For "Living Link" that
is for our Living, or Salary if you prefer, $500.00 each month beginning in June, when
we will go iiWbo full time service as Missionaries For "Service LLxik" that is for
buying Bibles, song books, lesson materials, printing tracts, translations, helping erect
church buildings, medical supplies to the needy, transportation and many items we
not even anticipate right now %200.00 per month (anticipated average). Thus you see
we need additional pledges in amount of $251*00. Mill lOIJ, a Class, the Church of which
you are a member, make a monthly pledge to this worthy work of the Lord? And/or send a
generous gift right now to help get us to Brazil?
BEFORE we can go, we must have $1000.00 (plus interest) to pay the Bunif Loan for
purchase of Chevrolet Pickup. Since it was necessaay that we buy this in April, if we
go in October, we borrowed $1000.00 of the $1700.00 purchase price, tfe must own major
items of equipment at least six months before we can take them out of this country.
Ve should take with us: Portuguese Typewriter about $125.00; Washing
about $150.00; Kerosene operated Refrigerator about $300.00; Duplicating Machine
about $200.00; other items ? ? ? Then there will be DUTY to pay on all these things
upon entering Brazil up to $1500.00 on the Pickup alone. With a Special Gift Inqiort
Certificate we are hoping to cut drastically on duty. In fact we could save up to $1000.00
on duty on the Pickup along if we obtain this. PRAY WITH US THAT WE WILL OBTAIN THIS!
WE DEEPLY APPRECIATE the gifts that have come to this work (complete finance report
is available upon request). Beginning in January, 1959 ve have received $150.00 monthly
as sdary; paid travel expenses to churches, conventions, rallies; paid $700.00 on the
purchase of Chevrolet Pickup; bought license; other smaller items we will need in Brazil.
We have in the bank about $250.00 to apply on the Bank note, make other purchases, etc.
So, we are deeply in need of your regular, generous support NOW!
Your Missionaries will be busy in our Church Youth Caaq)S during the summer, trying
to help, instruct, inspire our Christian Youth. This will also give us opportunity to
visit some churches and become better acquainted with leaders in the churches. We might
visit some of you in Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, or New Mexico, while we eire in Camps,
if you will invite us and if the dates agree. Anyway, we welcome your letters.
WILL YOU go to God in Prayer now about this Mission? Then will you try to obtain
gifts and pledges to be sent in right away? If you cannot go, then please help us go in
your place. Our fervent desire is to get to Brazil just as soon as possible to preach
the Gospel of Christ! We are ready to go and ready to work. Since we already speak the
language of the people (Portuguese), we can go to work as soon as we are on the field;
Please let us hear from you soon and keep on praying!

We owe
$1000.00
to the hank
on this Pidcup!
This is the Chevrolet Pickup we bought on faith. faith that you dear friends will
help pay for it when the $1000.00 hank note is due July 10th. Total cost was $1700.00
at splendid discount price! Such a vehicle is a necessity in the work we plan to do in
Brazil as "your" Missionaries. WILL TOU, prayerfully, ask the Church Missions Coinmittee,
Bible Classes, Men's and Women's Groups, Youth Groups, Individuals, EVERYONB to help MOW?
WHAT do we need? Coleman kerosene pressiure lamps, kerosene lifted
projector, gasoline powered washing machine, Portuguese typewriter, kerosene
refrigerator, butane cook-stove, furniture, and many, many other things before
we can begin our work in Brazil. YOTJ can provide any one of these items or
send money to apply on them. Some of these we can buy in Brazil, but some we
must pxu'chase immediately if we go on schedule, in October.
'I'HNiM there is Travel to Brazil! For this and incidental e:^nses immediately upon our
arrival in. Brazil, we will need about $1000.00. DOTY or COSTOMS will be quite a sum,
but we have no way of knowing ahead of time. We may fly down, after shipping equipnent
frcmi Mew Orleans or Mew York Cily, as the cost is less and by being in Belem ahead of
time we miglit save hundreds of dollars on Duty alone.
HOW DOES ALL THIS ADD DP? It seems that $5000.00 is the minlmnm needed between
now and October, besides our pledges to Living Link ($500.00 per month now; and
another $200.00 per month when we get on the field for mission expenses such
as books, tracts, translations, place of worship). YES, it is a lot of money
but evezything worth-while takes mon^! This is the Lord's Work and we will be
very careful In trying to use every dollar wisely.
PTaHT MOW we are serving as Missionaries in the Christian Searvioe Camps - a very rewarding
work with our Christian Youth, visiting some of the churches and conventions, and all the
hSmft busy with biylng equipment preparing for shipnent, obtaining necessary papers (so
many of them!) to enter Brazil in October.
DO YOD have questions about this Mission or the Work we plan to do for the lord?
If you do, please write to us. We deeply appreciate the gifts that have come
that YOD have sent! PRAY with us that sufficient money will come AT ONCE to pay
the bank, to bijy equipment, for travel to assure our going to Brazil in October.
IP YOU cannot go, then please help us go in your place! Our fervent desire is to get to
Brazil just as soon as possible to preach the Gospel of Christ to lost souls! Since we
already speak the language of the people (Portuguese), we can begin this work as soon as

needed to obtain Visas
By the Grace of God and the support of you dear friends, His people, we are now on the
Atlantic Ocean, sailing to the work to which He has called us, in the Amazon Valley of Brazil!
We praise Him! Ve thank and you! Our prayer is that we will be faithful. So pray with us!
We finally obtained our Visas from the Brazilian Consulate in Houston, Texas, so that we
could sail on the "S S MORMACHAWK" out of New York City on October 23rd, This was more change
of plans made necessary due to recent dock strike. After about 15 days on the ocean we should
arrive in Belem, Para, Brazil. This part of our dream come true!
How is our support coming along? Our Living Link of $500,00 has been pledged and is being '
paid each month. We yet need most of our Service Link of $200.00 per month needed for rent,
travel, mission supplies, printing, tracts, etc. Unless this is pledged and paid, we can do
little of the work to which we are committed. Your pledge NOW, in any amount, paid each month
will allow us to work in Brazil. All of our equipment is paid for, including the pickup. As
of now, we cannot take the pickup into Brazil, but we hope to obtain permit soon: and then it
will be shipped to us. We do need money for duty or customs, and to ship the pickup. So, you
see we still need money other than for the "Links", WE THANK ALL OP YOU WHO HAVE HELPED!
Some of you have mentioned wanting to write to us in Brazil. Our mailing address will be:
Postal 926. Belem. Para. Brazil." We should be there by about November 7th. So, write
to us by "Air Mail", cost 100 each half ounce, or by "Air Letter" (buy at post office, 100).
We *11 write ndien we can, and we hope to send some of our News Letters from Belm, as cost is
about the same as U S postage.
SEPTEMBER OCTOBER "NEWS LETTER"
