Hot Rod Edition
Special Feature: The SANNL 2013
Howdy Folks

Well, by the time that you read this, it will be a little
under a month before we all get in our 1:1 scales and
head of down to Kimberley for the SANNL.
Im sure during the past year you have all had great
ambitions as to what you are going to take this year,
and Im sure that nobody is anywhere near that
achievement
So lock yourselves in your man caves, and get some
modeling done. Even if its just one kit to display, its
one more on the table.
I think its always good to remind ourselves, that the
most important thing is that you build for yourself. As
long as you are happy with your model, thats all that
matters.

Okay, some great photos came in this month Hot Rods,
Jap Rods, and a whole load of other stuff and thanks to
everyone again that sent in photos.

Ill see you all in Kimberley on the 10th & 11th, (Ill be
the one that looks lost) and Im very much looking for-
ward to meeting all you guys.

Cheers
Steve

NEXT MONTHS THEME, ESPECIALLY FOR WAYNE FORDS!!!
Would you like to contribute?

Every month the Car modelers pull out all the stops
and send in their photos and they are the reason we
have managed to survive this far.
Would you like to contribute an article or maybe even a
build or kit review?
You really dont need to be Shakespeare because I
have a very clever computer that sorts all that out.
You can submit in word format, with a few photos. (size
doesn't matter as I can compress the pictures).
Im looking for maybe a couple of guys that would be
interested in doing an article or column every month
maybe, something funny, modeling related, give every-
one a good giggle.
If youre interested, drop me a mail on the any of the
emails below, or sms me, I dont mind and lets have a
chat, or alternatively you can chat to me at the SANNL.

This is one of those kits that

bly never see the light of
day.
This is the long bed version,
and apparently the short bed
is also on the cards.
With two sets of wheels and
parts included to make load-
ed and unloaded suspen-
sion, seems Hasegawa are
catching a wakeup on the
extra parts front.
So, how many are you going
to buy?
Grumpy, get ordering!
Due for release in November
This new release from Tamiya is the cabriolet version of Toyo-
tas first production car. Its the first time its been modelled in
1/35 and the first time an injection moulded kit is available of
the AB. There are some beautiful car kits available in 35th
scale, mainly of wartime staff cars, and their civilian versions,
especially from manufacturers like MasterBox, Bronco and
Tamiya.
Definitely worth checking out.

MORE NEWS BUT NO PICS
More news from the folks at Tamiya about upcoming releases for the remainder of the year.
First up is a new version of the Subaru BRZ, a Street Custom version, and separate Carbon decals for it.
It also appears Tamiya have been listening to its 1/12th scale bike fans and are re-releasing 3 off road bikes.
The Honda CR 450 with Rider, Honda CR 250 and the Suzuki RM 250. The Suzuki was one of the hardest bikes to
find, so youll no longer have to look on e-bay and pay stupid prices woohoo!

Model car show
Lets start by putting all of you out of your misery that
arent aware of what it means, It stands for Nameless
National Luminaries.
NNLs have been going in, mainly in the States, for a
good 30 years now and their credo has always been
the same, a non competitive event to show off great car
models, have fun, meet up with old and new friends
and enjoy yourself.
The SANNL is now in its 17th year, so it really is the big
daddy of car model shows in this country.
The show in Kimberley is not just for the car modelling
loonies either, you can bring along the whole family and
send them off too see whatever there is to see in Kim-
berley, then pack them off shopping while you attack
the sales table with the monthly grocery money
This years event is happening on the 10th & 11th of
October and promises to be one of the best yet. So
stop moaning, start building, and get yourself to down
to Kimberley in October and join in the fun. Lets make it
the biggest and best yet.
The usual suspects (from L to R)
Charl Coertze, Martyn Slabbert, Willie Dry,
Renier Roetz, Peter (Grumpys) Thomas, Gerhard Van Vuuren.
Being a Dakar enthusiast inspired Letsitele modeller, Charl Coertse, to build his Desert Raid diorama from a Unimog fire truck and a shortened Chrysler 300
Rally Car. Pretty much the rest is scratch built and finished with Zero paints. The model took several years to complete, but won awards for the best Modern
Closed Wheel Competition Vehicle, the Colin Chapman Memorial Award for Competition Car of the Year and the Overall Best of Show Award.
Gert Engelbrecht - AMT Mustang
Best Street Custom.

Asgar Thokan of Johannesburg is a massive Tri-Chevy fan, so building a cus-
tom Revell 56 Chevy Delray was a no-brainer. The colours are custom mixed
automotive paints, topped with clear coat. The Chevy runs on Pegasus
wheels. Asgars Delray won the Best Street Rod award, as well as the Ed Big
Daddy Roth Memorial Award for Custom Car of the Year.
Gert Engelbrecht loves fat-fendered pick-ups, particularly 55 Fords. He built
Monograms F100 straight from the box. The paint is Tamiyas Metallic Black
with a Camel Yellow pinstripe, topped with automotive clear coat. Gerts cool
hauler won the award for the best Sport Commercial vehicle.
Charles Sweigerts AMT 69 Plymouth Roadrunner week-
end racer was entered all the way from Shermansdale,,
Pennsylvania. The model is finished in Plasticote Copper
and Gloss Clear with grey primer body panels and it
earned Charles the runner-up position in the Classic Fac-
tory Stock class, as well as the Best Novice Modeller
award
Who doesnt love a 66 Mustang notchback? Gert Engelbrecht lowered his
AMT kit and added a resin blower and intake to the kits motor. The silver
automotive paint is a Toyota colour and the Ford runs on Aoshima wheels.
The interior was finished with Tamiya desert yellow. The model was voted as
the best Street Custom.

Steve McQueens 68 Mustang GT in Bullet inspired Kimberlite
Gerhard van Vuuren to build Monograms 1970 Mustang Boss 302.
It features Arii Rims with BF Goodrich T/A Radial tyres and is fully
plumbed and wired. It is finished with Tamiya dark metallic green
rattle can and earned the award for the best Classic Factory Stock
Vehicle.
Gert Engelbrecht used the real thing as reference when building his
Tamiya Toyota 86. He used mainly Tamiya paints and his attention to
detail earned him the award for the Best Interior Detailing. Gert loves
his Toyotas and says that the 86 is his dream car.
Prolific Kimberley builder, Gert Engelbrecht, built Fujimis 458 Italia to fuel his love for
Ferraris. The paint is a combination of standard Lamborghini silver and Ford metallic
red, topped with a two-part clear coat, to which he added Hobby Design metal transfer
Ferrari logos. This attractive model won the award for the best Modern Factory Stock
vehicle.
Pretoria fireman Willie Dry raided his parts box
and did plenty of scratch building to convert
Hasegawas VW Transporter into the Fire V-
Dub. The model is finished with automotive
paint and vinyl stickers. This delightful Veedub
earned the award for the best Light Commer-
cial Vehicle.
Garry Powell built this DMC LP900 Aventador from a Fuji-
mi kit with a C1 Models conversion and Hobby design
wheels and etched parts. It is finished with Zero Paints
Verde Ithaca, and the immaculate finish on this model
allowed Garry to go home with the Best Paint Finish
award.
This Ferrari 312 T4 was built from a Model Fac-
tory Hiro 1/20 hybrid kit by Garry Powell and
finished with Tamiya paints. Garry says that this
Ferrari is one of his favorite Formula 1 cars and
his efforts won him the award for the best Open
Wheel Competition Vehicle.
Heinrich Spangenberg, who hails from Bloemfontein, built Italeris 1:35
Autoblinda AB41 straight from the box with Humbrol enamels to win the
best Speciality Model award. The unusual layout of the running gear at-
tracted Heinrich to this subject.
Bruce Sapsford of Bloemfontein loves all types of competition vehi-
cles, so building a Rossi Repsol Honda is a must. Bruce built the
Tamiya model straight from the box, and finished it with Tamiya aer-
osol sprays. The neat building style earned Bruce the trophy for the
best Motorcycle.
A Suzuki Hayabusa painted Kawasaki green? Eli Powell says that he did it
to confuse everyone. The kit was built out the box and Eli promises that
this wont be the last motorcycle kit he builds, He scored the Best Junior
Modeller award with this Busa.
Martyn Slabbert of Port Elizabeth used an Italeri kit as the starting point for his
Scania 142. However, the whole structure behind the cab is scratch-built and fea-
tures fully operational features. The model was painted with Tamiya aerosols and
automotive clear coat. It earned the trophy for the best Heavy Commercial Vehicle.
