TPE #8: Learning about Students

Teacher understands how children and adolescents typically develop. The teacher should be

able to assess students various abilities through formal and informal methods. Through interactions,

learn of students abilities, ideas, interests and understandings. Teachers understand how multiple

factors influence students performance, and based on the data they gather, they are able to identify the

students who need special accommodations.

Abstract:

This lesson is a chance for students to describe themselves. They include their background,

struggles, interests, and things that they enjoy. Students create a project and on a poster display the

information about themselves so all students can learn about each other and so the teacher can learn

about them as well. Students tell of their family, which can help the teacher determine their home life;

their likes and interests that the teacher can use to gain their interest; what they don't like in school

which can tell the teacher what will be a challenge for the student.

Rationale:

By learning about students from their perspective, the teacher can develop lessons that are

formed for the particular student. By knowing what students think of themselves, the teacher also gets

a sense of what they can and can't do, appropriate adjustments that can be made and the things the

teacher should play into in order to peak interest and prior knowledge.
