Definition:
Blow molding is a process used to produce hollow objects
from thermoplastic.
History:
Enoch Ferngren and William Kopitke were the first verified
people who used the blow molding process. The process
principle comes from the idea of glassblowing.

Types:
Extrusion Blow Molding
Injection Blow Molding e.g plastic molding
Stretch Blow Molding
Plastic Injection Molding :
It is a type manufacturing technique
for making parts from both thermoplastic and thermosetting
plastic materials in production.
Use of hydraulic system:
Most injection molding machines use complex hydraulic
system. Usually machines consists of two parts e.g, clamping
unit , injection unit .In these machines this system is called as
"hydraulic pack" consists of all actuators like pumps
,valves, pipng etc. and collectively this system provides useful
energy to these machines.
Parts of hydraulic system:
Injection ram
Pumps
Pipes
fans
The ram or screw that applies pressure on the molten plastic
material to force it into the mold cavities. It usually acts as
output of hydraulic system. Hydraulic requirements vary
throughout the injection or blow molding process. Larger
volume of fluid requires at opening and closing of
molds(200psi)
While holding the mold larger pressure is required(almost
20000psi)
How to fulfill these needs??
To meet these changing needs of fluid availability we can use
different methods
Relief valves
Variable displacement pumps

Variable sped drives:
But in most cases, use of variable speed drives is the most useful
method. Variable speed drives (VSDs) allow loads driven by
fans and pumps to operate in a wide range of speeds compared
to the motor fixed speed. Actually VSD's are programmed so
that each portion requires only suitable flow. VSD's have full
load operation and also low speed operation phenomenon by
which a large variation in speed and pressure is observed. To
Control volume outputs of the pump by using bypass of fluid is
done minimized to reduce outputs. High pressure fluid is
throttled to lower pressure to meet these needs.
Applications:
1. It is used to eliminate the weld line.
2. It is used to manufacture plastic bottles
3. Toys, PVC pipes manufacturing
4. It is also used to produce oil resistant containers in industry

Disadvantage:
1. Extra steps in manufacturing
2. More fuel consumption
3. More energy loss
4. Noise pollution
5. Old means of providing power
6. More Time consuming.
