DP William Ruto Supports the Referendum

2017 is Election year in Kenya, and for most voters, the election has already been won or lost
the messages are out, the waged people are mobilized, the calls have been made, and the
electorate is ready to go to the polls and cast their ballots if the referendum is to go by.
However, theres a lot left to be done. The campaigns are yet to begin too far to call or at
least within the constitutional errors. We have observed many campaigns, where there hasnt
been any polling because the election is for the elite and stage-managed by few men in black
especially ODM, many arent sure where they stand, and very well could be involved in a close
election. For these leaders, the distinction between victory and defeat could well be the
commotion and exertion they put in over the next 3 years.
ODM is loathed and liked, fted and condemned in equal measure. It is this hate and
denunciation which is unequivocally and innately unique to the politics of this country. The
virile and the most condemning accusations originate from the poll losers and never from the
voters from which power generates, except in 2007 where in my opinion a blatant shooting down
of democracy occurred. Only then, in history, the masses were well in order for the agitation.
The United Republican Party (URP) of Kenya is a party that was launched by William Ruto, in
conjunction with several Kenyan politicians allied to a splinter group of ODM opposed to Raila
Odinga, as their means of transportation for the 2013 General elections. The party's launch was
announced after a week of meetings on 15 January of 2012 In December, WilliamRuto and the
leaders of several other political parties, signed a pre-election coalition deal, in which Ruto was
set to become a running mate for Uhuru Kenyatta and URP would receive half the spoils of an
election victory. One should note that Hon Charles Keter was the founder of URP.
One may ask why I have to insist on bringing the history of the formation of URP into this,
simple. The DP has very little say on URP as a party unlike Raila in ODM. Ruto has to roll back
his support for the Jubilee government and support URP unconditionally. The association of Mr
Charles Keter and Council of Governors chair Hon Isaac Ruto is so formidable and has been in
the offing since the appointment of cabinet secretaries in 2013 where URP felt undermined on
the spoils, and DP Ruto failed to protect and has never delivered the 2 remaining cabinet
secretaries to URP as they promised when they unveiled the cabinet.
As the saying goes, If you cant beat them, join them, DP Ruto must rethink his stand on the
referendum if he does not want to be a partaker of political oblivion now enjoyed by both
Kalonzo Musyoka and Raila Odinga. It is high time he put the rift in the rift to his advantage; it
will do him better than harm joining the referendum bandwagon even if by mere words. It will
unite his team since he has lost his right hand barking man Adan Duale to the President.
The disgruntled ODMers must also be wary of time, Hon Ababu Namwamba and Hon Dalmas
Otieno must unite for them to stay relevant until such a time that the referendum has pulled
through as it will. Only then should they unveil the next face of ODM. Kenyans are known to be
optimistic people; I hope someone reads the point.
