SHORT ADJECTIVES (adjetivos cortos"):
1 syllable: CHEAP ! - er / the - est

**** 2 syllable adjective ending - er, - y, - ow**** (estos adjetivos de
2 slabas con estas terminaciones se consideran CORTOS, y para hacer el
comparativo, se les aade er , y no more.

COMPARATIVO
ADJETIVOS CORTOS = (1 slaba, y 2 slabas acabos en y/ -er/ ow)

1 A la mayora le aadimos '-er' sin problemas.

I.e. cold - colder

2 Agregamos '-r' a los que ya terminan en '-e'

I.e. nice - nicer

3 Sandwich de Vocal (una vocal entre dos consonantes, al final) ! Doble consonante:
Los adjetivos CORTOS que terminan en consonante + vocal + consonante
DUPLICARN SU CONSONANTE FINAL.

I.e. big bigger slim - slimMER

4 Aadimos '-ier' a los adjetivos que terminan en '-y'

I.e. happy - happier

LONG ADJECTIVES:
2 or + syllables: BEAUTIFUL ! More + adjective / the most + adjective

Se usan los superlativos para indicar un
extremo en un grupo de cosas.

Bob is the tallest student in the class.
Bob es el estudiante ms alto de la clase.
[norma general] ! A los adjectivos CORTOS (1 SLABA y la excepcin de los de 2 slabas que acaban en y/
ow/ er), se les aade est para formar el SUPERLATIVO:
Generalmente formamos el superlativo aadiendo el sufijo -est al adjetivo:
small (pequeo) - the smallest (el ms pequeo)
Tall- the tallest
Ugly- the ugliest (excepcin, por la y)
Clever- the cleverest (excepcin, por terminar en er)
Hollow (hueco)- the hollowest (excepcin, por terminar en ow)
REGLAS DE ORTOGRAFA DEL SUPERLATIVO:
[-e] ! -st
Si el adjetivo termina con e, nada ms aadimos -st para formar el superlativo:
large - the largest
[consonante + y ] ! la Y se tranforma en i, y se le aade est: -iest
Si una palabra termina con una consonante y luego y, cambiamos la y a iest:
easy - the easiest
Sandwich de Vocal (una vocal entre dos consonantes, al final) ! Doble consonante
Si una palabra termina con una consonante, una vocal, y luego otra consonante y la slaba fuerte es la ltima, duplica
la ltima letra antes de anadir -est.
big - the biggest
"Most" con Palabras Largas (= ms de una slaba, excepto las que acaban en y/ ow/ er, que aunque tengan 2
slabas, se consideran como cortas)
Si la palabra es de dos slabas o ms (una palabra larga) y no termina con y, usamos la palabra most, en lugar de -est.
