Install aharddisk, andconnect theStorageCentral SC101T to your network. 2. Install theStorageCentral SC101T software. 3. AllocateSC101T disk spacefor eachPC that will usetheSC101T. Whenyoufinishtheinstallation, your network will resemblethisillustration. Preparing for Installation Youmust haveanSATA harddisk, anEthernet network withanavailableport, DHCP must berunninginthenetwork, andyouneedto haveeither WindowsXP (SP2) or Windows2000(SP4) PCsto accesstheSC101T. Unpack theunit, Ethernet cable, power adapter, andtheNETGEAR CD. TheCD containsdriver software, asetupwizard, andlinksto onlineresources. Familiarize yourself withtheStorageCentral SC101T unit. Theback panel of theSC101T has informationabout theportsandthestatuslightslocatedonthefront panel. Whenyouset uptheunit, standit onitsfeet, andbesureit hasampleventilation. Avoidputtingtheunit inalocationwhereit couldbeknockedover easily. Do not placeitemsontopof it.
Install a Disk and Connect the SC101T Warning: BesuretheSC101T power cordis unpluggedbeforeaddingor removingthedisks. Failureto observethisprecautioncouldrender your disksuseless. Theinstructionsbelow explainhow to set upasingle disk. Repeat thesestepsto install aseconddisk. 1. Removethefront cover. 2. Insert aharddisk. Positionthedisk withthebottom facingin. Slidethedisk into either slot. Replacethefront cover 3. Connect theSC101T to your network. Connect theprovidedEthernet cableto your network andto theback of theSC101T. Besureyour network isrunning. DHCP must beavailableinthenetwork. DHCP isusually enabledonhomenetworksby default. 4. TurnontheSC101T Pluginthepower adapter to apower source andconnect theother endto theSC101T. Turn theunit on. View thefront panel to verify that thegreenpower light isonandthat thegreen network light ison. D-shaped power socket Install the SC101T Software Note: Thissoftwaremust beinstalledoneachPC that will accessthe StorageCentral Node. 1. Insert theNETGEAR CD into your PC. If thisscreendoesnot appear, runAutorun.exeontheCD. Click Install Software. 2. Click Check for Updates andproceedaccordingto theprompts. Thesoftwarechecks to seeif theSC101T isonyour network. Youcaninstall thesoftwareevenif theunit isnot yet onyour network. If Windowslogo certificationwarningsappear, click Continue to proceed. 3. Follow theNew HardwareFoundpromptsto completetheinstallationof several softwaredriver components. Youwill seetheStorageCentral Manager utility icononyour desktop. 4. RuntheStorageCentral Manager, whichcan check for updates. Click Next to proceed, and. follow thepromptsto check for andinstall additional product updates. Refer to themanual for instructionsonhow to useadvancedfeaturessuchas mirroring. Note: TheSC101T formatsharddisksdifferently thanaPC does. Do not swapharddisks betweenaSC101T andaPC: thedatawill beunreadable. Troubleshooting Tips Herearesometipsfor correctingsimpleproblemsyoumay have. Always restart your network in this sequence: 1. Turnoff and unplugthemodem, turnoff therouter, shut off theSC101T, andshut downthecomputers. 2. Pluginandturnonthecableor DSL modem. Wait about 2minutes. 3. Turnontherouter. Wait about 1minute. 4. TurnontheSC101T. 5. Turnonthecomputers. Check the status lights to verify correct operation. Whenpoweredon, theSC101T power light will beon. Whenconnectedto anoperational Ethernet network, theEthernet statuslight will belit. Thelabel ontheSC101T back panel identifiesthesestatuslights.
