WG 1: Towards a re-definition of EU studies?

This WG will consider the relevance and appropriateness of European studies. Using a
number of examples, it will assess the impact and added value, both of traditional

areas of study, and consider how these could be improved.

WG 2: EU studies: feeding results in to policy-making

for developing, shaping and making policy on European subject matters in the different

WG3: EU studies as an instrument for better governance

This WG aims to define the needs of the different stakeholders who define or are involved
in governance questions (decision-makers, practitioners, economic players and citizens)
and how they can best be met. It will discuss how an exchange of experience and best
practise can be organised at European level and synergies can be created with a view to
creating momentum and a coordinated dynamic in this area. Central to this exchange will
be the sharing of new knowledge and tailor-made training.
Moderator: Colin STEVENS, eureporter
Leonce BEKEMANS Jean Monnet Professor ad personam, University of
Padua
Lehte ROOTS Talinn Law School, Estonia
Eva HEIDBREDER Heinrich Heine University, Dsseldorf

WG 4: The European Union in the world: the role of EU studies

WG4 looks at the reasons for growing interest in EU studies worldwide. Do EU studies
meet the needs of practitioners and policy-makers outside Europe? How can we improve
the effect they have? To what extent can Europe learn from the way it is perceived from
the outside? Will a better understanding of Europe among partner countries enhance the
EU's external policy?
Moderator: Ard JONGSMA, University World News
Mark ENTIN Jean Monnet Professor, Director, European Studies
