For decades, the Philippine animation sector has been a key
contributor to the development of content for cartoon television shows and
animated films in markets like the US, supplying a significant share of
animated content globally. Today, the sector is focusing on developing
original content in the country as well as empowering stakeholders to
continue working with companies from the US, Japan, and Europe,
according to Benjamin Marasigan, president of the Animation Council of the
Philippines (ACPI).
In the Philippines, we invest in the talent of the artist while other
countries have been spending on the latest technology. And training the
person, in terms of creativity, takes quite some time, money, technology
and facilities.

original content and advance the local
industry.
The PHILIPPINE FILM AND ANIMATION COMPLEX is geared
towards the solution of the following problem:
1. What functions will the project provide to be able to cater
potential animators in the Philippines?
2. What features will be incorporated in the project to create an
environment that can help stimulate inspiration and strengthen
organizational culture?
3. What other facilities will be added to attract guests and possible
animators?
SIGNIFICANCE
OF THE STUDY
The purpose of this study is to build an
ecosystem of creativity in Metro Manila
that allows creative workforce from
different disciplinesanimation, design, illustration, music, acting, gaming,
and other related coursesto exercise skills and create new and exciting
worlds for the world to discover and enjoy.
Creativity is not dead, especially not in an age of reposts and remakes.
Peoples best asset lies in their creativity, imagination, and ability to see the
positive in everything.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
The main goal of this study is to design a film and animation studio
complex that will showcase creative talents of Filipino artists and prove to
the film industry that our animated films can also compete world-class.
Architectural Objectives:
To develop a mixed-used complex that will provide a conducive
environment for students and artists achieving international
excellence.
To design a structure that is both flexible and sufficient to
accommodate animators, students and guests.
To provide facilities that connects guests to art.
To design an institute that will showcase the skill and artistry of the
Filipino artists, specifically animators.
To construct an icon for animation in Asia that will definitely pave way
for good economy and investments through arts and entertainment.
SCOPE AND
DELIMITATIONS
DEFINITION
OF
TERMS
ART - the expression or application of human creative skill and
imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or
sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their
beauty or emotional power.
ANIMATION - the technique of photographing successive
drawings or positions of puppets or models to create an illusion
of movement when the movie is shown as a sequence; the
manipulation of electronic images by means of a computer in
order to create moving images.
ANIMATORS - a person who animates something,
especially a person who prepares animated movies.
COMPLEX - a group of similar buildings or facilities on the
same site.
FILM - a motion picture; a movie.
STUDIO - a room where an artist, photographer, sculptor,
etc., works.

The proposed project will
concentrate mainly in providing the
ideal architectural and planning
design for the proposed Philippine
Film and Animation Complex. It will focus on the conceptualization,
research, aesthetic value, and site development for the required facilities.
This study is limited only to the information gathered for designing and
planning the studio complex.

JUSTIFICATION OF THE STUDY

By 2016, Michael Kho Lim, ACPI executive director, would like for the
Philippines to be known not just for its high-quality animation services and
but also a source of original animated content. (Noda, Philstar, 28 June
2013)
It is worthy to say that the animated films in the Philippines have still a lot of
rooms for improvement upon reaching the year 2016. Due to this, there is a
need to provide Filipino artists a venue for learning and inspiration for them
to produce high quality animated films.
