OUR FIELDS
OF COMPETE NCE
GOBELINS:
THE FREEDOM TO
EXPRESS YOUR
TALENT!
ANIMATED FILMMAKING
Our Character Animation and Animated
Filmmaking course has been world-recognised
for its excellence in character animation and the
high-level of professionalism of its students for
40 years. This course allows students to master
both traditional and digital animation techniques
(2D and 3D) following professional methods in
animation studio conditions.
The original aspect of our approach lies in our
ability to enable our students to capture, from
rst year, each step of lm design and production
in order to progressively equip them with all
the skills expected to be able to work on a long
feature.
PHOTOGRAPHY
Our reputed Photographic department has
dedicated itself for 50 years to train multi-skilled
students in becoming professionals in image
acquisition as well as in photographic printing
and editing for the illustration, publishing,
industrial and journalism sectors. Our courses
enable students to acquire high-level creative
and technical skills, taught in conjunction with
experts from different practices to aid students
in realising achievements of professional quality.
Training is conducted in a variety of approachable
and engaging formats:
conventional lessons, conferences, core subjects
as well as workshops covering themes such as
publicity, food photography, fashion, beauty and
architecture.
INTERACTIVE DESIGN
At the centre of the new technological challenges,
our students learn to design new interactive
services or products meeting social, urban,
environmental, cultural requirements. They produce
2D or 3D content or implement technologies
linked to the convergence of multimedia platforms,
manage teams and steer complex projects. The
school trains highly sought-after professionals,
graphic designers and developers, who aim to meet
the needs of new communication practices in terms
of design, of graphic interface design and new
ergonomic user interfaces.
VIDEO GAME
The heart of branding is with the video game
industry! Our Specialized Masters degree
Interactive Digital Experiences, conceived
with the CNAM/ENJMIN is the rst of its kind
in France. The strength of this programme is
that it prepares high-level engineers, graphic
designers and IT specialists to become experts
in the design and creation of games for
mobiles, tablets, social networks, terminals and
installations.
GRAPHIC INDUSTRIES
From printed to web-based, our training
in Graphic Industries responds to the new
challenges of the digital revolution. GOBELINS
is the only school to offer Post-16 professional
apprenticeships in Graphic Industries and
propose a path of studies from undergraduate
to postgraduate level to master the whole of the
graphics process.
I entered GOBELINS more than 30 years
ago, well before globalization, and yet already
at the time, there were 6 different nationalities
amongst the 12 students from our year!
Kristof SERRAND,
Head of Character Animation, DreamWorks
Thanks to the GOBELINS/Calarts exchange programme I was very lucky to spend 6 months as student
and director of an end of studies lm within the school created by Walt Disney, in Los Angeles! I was also
able to meet the recruiters of the majority of the American studios and was hired as training concept artist/
character designer at Pixar. At the end of this training course, I got employed at Pixar Studios.

OUR FIELDS
OF COMPETE NCE
GOBELINS is unique in its pedagogical approach,
which integrates a triple dimension: creative,
technical and professional.
If creative and cultural education is very present
in our pedagogy, it always ts into a professional
context, enabling students to stretch their limits
both creatively and technically and allowing them
to be ahead of the requirements of the industry.
Our programmes focus on innovative
pedagogical project through: teamwork,
workshops, project-based courses, tutoring
and self-training with specialised resources,
interdepartmental projects and collaboration,
professional assignments commissioned by
a client designed and developed to become
a business tool, nal projects presented in
exhibitions, publications and international
festivals.
We maintain a strong relationship with the
industry. Professionals participate in juries,
advisory boards as well as numerous other
meetings and events. They offer a high-level
quality assurance at GOBELINS by guaranteeing
the training corresponds to the needs of the
different professional sectors. The school
also maintains constant, productive ties
with representative bodies and professional
institutions. The many consultants and experts
sent by companies to teach and advise on
projects reinforce its strong link with the
professional sector.
Going to London with MovilApp was probably
one of the best decisions I could take to start my
career. After a Bachelor in Sales Manager in Cross-
Media, and two excellent years of work experience,
I got offered a position at Razorfish, a great
international agency in digital publicity.

GOBELINS 2010
After a training course in Communication and Graphic Industries, I had the opportunity to work at BJB
Limited in London as a graphic designer print & Web for various jewellers, as part of my MovilApp training
course. I have also freelanced since September 2009. This experience has proved invaluable in discovering
other visual techniques and acquiring a better level of English as is required for my profession.

SUMMER
SCHOOL
In order to share its expertise in animation with
an international audience, GOBELINS organises
each year in Paris a two-week International
Summer School in Character Animation.
Mainly designed for professionals and advanced
students in animation, entirely in English, its
aim is to enable participants from all around
the world to gain a better understanding of what
makes for successful character animation.
The GOBELINS Summer School completely surpassed my expectations. The staff were absolutely
incredible.
I was delighted to nd that most of the content was completely new to me! Not only new, but exciting,
practical and insightful.
One of best things about the course was that by exposing us to a number of accomplished animators who
have very contradictory views on work-ow, it challenged us to reassess our own assumptions about how to
animate, and gave us new tools to help us nd our own way of working. I highly recommend the GOBELINS
Summer School to anyone who loves creating character animation, who is looking for inspiration, insight and
a challenge!

Animation Lead, Triggersh Animation Studios Cape Town. GOBELINS International Summer School 2010

expertise by organising Master Classes abroad.
From 3 days to 2 weeks, these Master Classes
are made to measure for the needs of a
local network and market and delivered in
partnerships with local studios, animation
schools, universities or animation festival.
They have the same pedagogical focus as the
International Summer School and are based both
on lectures and practical workshops.
GOBELINS delivers a series of Master Classes
in Brazil, Chile, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Russia,
Singapore and South Africa.
The techniques demonstrated in this course are built through experience. Experience that allows the
student to learn through practice. That coupled with expert guidance means that you denitely leave better off
than you started. I truly feel that I increased my knowledge of animation through this course.
