LESSON PLAN

CURRICULAR STATEMENT
The pupil develops factual knowledge conceptual knowledge and procedural
knowledge on the topic centrifugation and its role in our life. Observation
,discussion, analysis can be done by experimentation and group discussion.

CONCEPTS
Centrifugation is a process that involves the use of a centrifugal force
for the sedimentation of heterogeneous mixture with a centrifuge. This process is
used for immisible liquids.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Pupil develops,
1. Factual knowledge on the centrifugation by,
* Recalling the process
* It is the process of separation o immisible mixture
2.Conceptual knowledge on centrifugation by,
* Explaining the actual concept of centrifugation.
* Illustrating with examples.
* Use this concept in new or unfamiliar situation.
3.Procedural knowledge on centrifugation by,
* Doing activities with various examples.
* Raising questions about this topic.
4. Metacognitive knowledge on centrifugation and its role in our life by,
* Focusing the idea Immisible liquids and solids can be separated by the process
centrifugation.
5.Attitude towards science.

PRE-REQUISITES
Pupil knows already about centrifugation and its applications.
TEACHING AND LEARNING RESOURCES
1.Materials for the experiment
Showing the video.
2.Chalk board drawing and Activity
Grouping ,discussion ,activity card etc.
CLASS ROOM INTERACTION
PROCEDURE
PUPIL RESPONDS
INTRODUCTION
All of you know milk, what is its
peculiarity, how it terned into curd, can you
separate curd from milk or cream from milk.
Did you assume how this separation takes!!!
What is the principle behind this?
Let we discuss about that..
ORIENTATION
Teacher separate the whole class into various
groups.
PRESENTATION

ACTIVITY-1
Teacher take some curd in a pot it will
continuously stirred using kadakkol,showing

the demo centrifugation process and asking
questions.

ACTIVITY -2
Teacher showing the centrifugation process in
a video and asking the related questions.
ACTIVITY-3
Teacher giving the activity card with various
examples into different groups and playing a
game with students.

QUESTIONS???
1.What happens when stirring takes place?
2. What we can see on the surface ?
3. On what basis this process takes place?
4. What is the name of this phenomenon?
ACTIVITY CARD
Separation of components in the crude oil
Separation of colours in the black ink
Separation of curd from milk
Separation of blood cells from blood
Separation of sedimentation in the labs
Wetting of cloth in washing maching
Separation of salt from saltwater

CONCLUSION
Centrifugation is a process that involves the
use of a centrifugal force for the
sedimentation of heterogeneous mixture with
a centrifuge. This process is used for
immiscible liquids.
REVIEW
1. What is centrifugation?
2. How density depends on this process?
3. What is the basis of this process?
4. What is the principle behind the process
wetting of cloth in the washing machine?
5. Find two other examples?
6. Name the machine used for this process?
FOLLOW UP ACTIVITY
Find out more examples on centrifugation
related in your day to day life and write it in
your science diary.
