TOKKEY
Our new mission group. Friends of Turkey, is a
ministry to the world's largest unevangelized nation
and Turks world-wide. Turkey has a population of 60
million. Of this number, 99.7% are followers of Islam.
There are 53 million Turks in the Commonwealth of
Independent States (which has 5 Turkic republics), 10
million in Iran, 9 million in China, 3 million in Europe,
etc. Friends of Turkey is dedicated to: winning Turks
to Christ, seeing them discipled and the planting of
churches under national leadership.
BE A PEN-PAL AND
SHARE THE GOSPEL
We offer you the opportunity to be a friend
and Christian witness to someone in Turkey.
Throughletters to teachers in Turkishschools,
we recruit students whowant to correspond in
English. Most are between the ages of 13 and
20 and are eager to receive letters. We try to
TlieaterinEphe8Us(deacribedinActs) where theprotests
against Paul's missionary activities happened.
Baptistry at Ephesus
match these Turkish students with Chris
tians who have similar interests or are in
the same age groups. Each Christian re
ceives helpful guidelines for sharing the
Gospel. Let us know if you are interested.
YOU CAN BE A
MISSIONARY AT HOME
How? By mailing Gosp)el Letters to Turkish
homes! Through Gospel Letters you can reach
Turks in even the most remote areas. A free
Bible correspondence course is offered, andthose
who respond to your letters will be followed up
by dedicated
Christianwork
ers. The letters
are mailed by
volunteers in
many locations
in different
countries. This
makes them
less noticeable
in hostile areas
and reduces in
terference from
Turkish postal
workers. Al
though the mailings are perfectly legal, they are quite unpopular
with extremist Muslims. Turkish materials with addresses and
instructions will be sent to you at no charge. We will also provide a
translationof what you are sending. Your role is to supplyenvelopes
for the letters, to address them, provide postage, pray over them,
and then mail them. Please contact us if you are interested in
participating in this program.

MARTI'S PAGE
Lifeis exciting! Itconstantly
changes. I amthankful thatthe
Lord is incontrol ofeveryaspect
of it.
After shedding tears of sad
ness while saying goodbye to
our ZtunbiEin brothers and sis
ters in Christ, it was with tears
ofjoythat we greetedour family
in the U.S.A. We really miss
one another whenwe are apart.
Our family in 1960 (there
were only two of us!) has now
grown to 10 in 1996. Upon our
return from Africa last year we
enjoyed a family reuniou/vaca-
tion together. It was fun to share and catch up with each one. There are always many gaps to fill
in! Ron and I are so thankful to have children who love the Lord. 0\ir hearts overflow as we hear
the twins sing "Jesus loves me" and other Bible songs. We are thankful, too, to have children who
understand our desire to serve Him and who are supportive of the work He has called us to do.
Our choice to work with Friends of Turkey means another separation from fsunily and friends.
Keep us in your prayers as we begin a new area of service.

RELOCATION
It is with great pleasure and relief that we are able to report to you
our successful relocation to Grand Junction, Colorado. We can
actually say that we are "settled in"! Our household goods arrived
in almost perfect condition, which is a minor miracle itself.
The arranging of furniture, placing of pictures and unpacking of
boxes seemed almost simple. Traveling out in the car required two
and one-half days and was a pleasant experience. The scenery in
Colorado (includingthe "westem slopes ofthe Rockies" as it is called
(where we are located) is breathtaking. Granted, it is not East
Tennessee (!), but it is beautiful in its own way. As we journeyed
through Kansas and Colorado we frequently had "mental pictures"
flash through our minds reminiscent ofthe Republic of South Afiica
and Switzerland, and even the Great Smoky Mountains near
Knoxville. The Grand Junction area of Colorado (about thirty miles
from the Utah border) is actually a desert region which has been
reclaimed through irrigation. The contrast is ever-present since we
have lush, green areas and dry eroded areas. God's beautiful world
certainly presents itself to us in many wonderful and different ways
and is ample evidence of His hand in creation.
TURKISH WORLD OUTREACH - OUR NEW NAME
r-office of FricndD of Xiirkey.w^ take on a new name in
January, 1997. Turkish World OutreaSTwi^ Friends of Turkey as
asufatatle?^he~newiidjiic (T.W.O.) wilTmore fully describe our out
reach to all of the Turkic-speaking groups (which quite naturally
includes Turkey). Included in the group of independent Turkish
nations accessible to Christians are: Azerbaijan, Kazakstan,
Kyrghyzstan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, the Turkish Republic of
Northern Cyprus and Uzbekistan. In addition, Turkish provinces,
districts, and autonomous republics in Russia, China, Mongolia and
the Balkans have become open to Westemers.

GETTING TO WORK
It tookonly about a weekto get settledin our home. Obviously I was
anxious to get "down to work" at the Friendsof Turkeyoffice after
waiting eight months (or so) to movehere. One huge task that we
faced immediately was the Call to Prayer mailing that goes out to
almost seven thousand addresses. This takes days to prepare and get
out, and we fortunately havetento fifteen local volunteers (fromarea
churches) whogive of theirtime to helpuswiththe"busy" work. As
a result of the Call to Prayer thousands and thousands of Christians
pray daily for the Turks of the worldandthe manyefforts to reach
them for Christ.
THREAT
The threat of a coalition government being formed in Turkey by the
conservative Islamic party, which would attempt to restore Islam as
the religionof the State, is ever present. Aclear-cut majority by any
one party was not possible in the December '95 election due to the
large number ofpolitical parties. A situationsuch as this necessitates
the formation ofvarious coalition governments that are rarely tranquil
and stable. The coalition government which was formed continues
to stagger forward amid scandals, rapid inflation and much infighting.
TWO-DECADE WISH
After hoping and wishing for twenty years or so to be able to teach in
a Christian school, Marti will finally realize her dream. She will be
teaching a split second/thirdgrade class at the Cornerstone Christian
School here in Grand Junction (which is located near to the F.O.T.
office). Please pray with her that she will be the positive role model
that is necessary in leading children to a fuller knowledge of Christ.
NEW MAILING LIST
After sixteenyearson theforeign mission field we are attemptingto
update our mailing list. All of you are important to us since we
assume that you do prayfor us regularly. Pleasereturn the enclosed
cardso that youwill be included on thenewlist, or requestthat your
name be removed. Please make any corrections that you wish to be
made. The postage is paid, so please, please mail it back to us.

Ron & Marti Baumann
Andrew
In 1980, after years as active members of Woodlawn Christian Church
and a successful dentist practice, Dr. Ron Baumann and his wife, Marti, along
with their children, Jeffrey, Russell, Susan and Andrew, were led to the
mission field. Living in Lusaka, Zambia's capital city, the Baumanns have
undertaken key roles in establishing and leading churches there as well as
various villages throughout the country.
The Baumann's mission work includes: planting new congregations, con
struction of new church buildings, leadership training of men and women
through weekly classes and/or periodic conferences of one to three days in
length (intensivestudy of Scripturesor subjects relatingto the Christianlife),
advisory, and occasional dental prevention clinics in the rural primary
schools.
Ron and Marti recentlybegan their 4th termof service in Zambia. Their
son, Andrew, is presently in the 9th grade in boarding school at Rift Valley
Academy in Kenya. ForwardingAgents for the Baumanns are our own Jim
and Mary Lape, Johnson Bible College, Box 35, Knoxville, TN 37998.

TURKISHWORLD OUTREACH
Our new name^ Turkish World Outreach (TWO) becomes
official on the first day of January, 1997. Sinceotir outreach
is to the Turkish community worldwide, the new name more
accurately reflects our mission. There are seven
independent Turkish nations accessible (in one way or
another) to Christian workers, and we (TWO) want to be
significantly involved in sending workers into those seven
nations, as well as many other areas of the world where
Turks live. Church-planting teams in these areas remain a
high priority for TWO. We continue to provide Scripture,
Christianliteratureand videos in fifteen Turkishlanguages.
THEBAUMANNS
Marti continues to teach in a Christian school here in Grand
Junction. She loves her work, and she is blessed to be
working with a staffthat is united in their goals. Jeff, Robbie
and the twins (Stephen and Katherine - three and one-half
years old) are still living in Stockbridge, Georgia, with Jeff
serving as an Analyst with Delta Air Lines. Russell and
Amy have been working hard, fixingup their home in south
Knoxville. Russell is an architect with Community
Tectonics, and Amy is a student at the University of
Tennessee in Knoxville. Suscin continues as a fifth grade
teacher at the Rocky Hill Elementary School in Knoxville,
and she enjoys singing with the Knoxville Choral Society.
Andrew is one-half of the way through his sophomore year
at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, and he is
planning to major in political science.

"THOSE WHO LEAD MANY TO RIGHTEOUSNESS
SHALL SHINE LIKE THE STARS FOREVER AND EVER"
DANIEL 12: 3
What a wonderful and marvelous verse to live by. Every
time we wake up we should ask God to bring someone our
way so that we might have the opportunity to tell them of
Christ; ...to lead them "to righteousness." We may reside
locally, or we may work on the foreign field. At home it
seems more and more that there are great numbers who do
not believe and obey. Our court system is hostile to
anything Christian or moral; Christian principles are not
allowed to be taught in our public schools; some of our
military training centers are unbelievably amoral; "living
together", abortion and the "gay" lifestyle literally surround
us; some large Protestant groups are attempting to rewrite
the Word of God; church attendance has dropped to its
lowest level in two decades. Let us pray that God will lead
someone our way today, and every day! Let each of us be
numbered among "...those who lead many to
righteousness..." We at TWO are devoting our lives to
leading many to righteousness. Through our volunteer
Gospel Letters program (alone) letters go outevery month to
about 12,000 different Turks in the world with the message
of Christ. That's close to 150,000 letters a year. Our goal: to
"lead many Tiuks to righteousness."
CHURCH-BUILDING TEAMS
A great wish of mine is to be involved with a team that
would go out to construct church buildings for groups of
Turkish believers in various parts of the world.
Unfortunately it is almost impossible to do this in most
places that are somewhat closed to New Testament
evangelism. There is not only opposition to this by the
Islamic radicals, but also by some "so-called" Christian
groups. We are investigating one such possibility at this
time. Please pray vrith usforopen doors tosuch ventures.
