RECENT WORK: Past tense simple. Irregular verbs.
OBJECTIVES: -To practice the past tense of the irregular verbs.
Aids: Cards, worksheets, students` textbooks, students` notebooks and
blackboard.

CONTENTS:

Warm up activity: Oral activity.
Objective: To reinforce the irregular verbs.
Estimated time: 5 minutes.
Activity/class organization: S-S, S-T interaction. Group work.
Procedure: Brainstorming: irregular verbs.
Vocabulary engaged: Irregular verbs.
Aids: Blackboard.
Language: All and any.
Possible problems: None.

Activity 1: Reading activity
Objective: To spot the verbs at the past tense form in the text.
Estimated time: 10 minutes.
Activity/class organization: S-T/ T-S interaction and solo work.
Procedure: The students take up turns to read the lesson Once Upon a Time,
pages 64-65. They have to identify the verbs from the text and specify whether
they are at present tense simple of past tense simple and whether they are
regular or irregular verbs.
Aids: Students textbooks.
Language: All and any.
Possible problems: None.

Activity 2: Oral activity.
Objective: To reinforce the irregular verbs.
Estimated time: 20 minutes.
Activity/class organization: S-S, S-T interaction/ group activity.
Procedure: The first stage of the activity: The students will be given a set of
forty-eight (48) cards with verb forms. They will be put at random on a table in
front of the class, face up. The students are divided into two groups and they
compete to arrange the verb forms.
E.g. Go-went-gone.
The second stage of the activity: A student will pass a soft ball to another
student provoking him/her to continue the game. The first student says the first
form of an irregular verb, the second student says the second form and so on.
Evaluation: After arranging the verb forms the student must read the verb aloud
to the class. The group may correct the spelling (if necessary).
Aids: Cards, a soft ball.
Language: All and any.
Possible problems: None.


Activity 3: Written activity.
Objective: To use the past tense simple correctly (affirmative, negative and
interrogative).
Estimated time: 15 minutes.
Activity/class organization: T-S, S-T interaction.
Procedure: The students are given a worksheet for further practice.
Evaluation: The teacher will correct the sentences. The students will have to
read the sentences aloud.
Aids: Students worksheets.
Language: All and any.

Possible problems: None.

Homework: Write seven sentences about your last weekend describing what did
you do and where did you go.
