Gate of fate the GATE

To benchmark and assess the potential , that an engineering student posses .An all India level test
organized under the guidance of science and technology headstream , the IISc and seven IIT s is nothing
but Graduate Aptitude Test (GATE) .It is being conducted by the Notional Coordination Board GATE, The
Department of Higher Education , Ministry Of Human Resource and Development , Government of India
to test the engineering concept and managerial skill.
Misfortunately it is understood that the GATE is meant only for ME / M.Tech which finally leads to
teaching career only. But the reality is that many PSUs can be enumerated as BHEL, IOCL, NTPC, BARCK
and others totaling up to 217 are using the GATE score card as bench mark for the recruitment of the
candidate for their organization. Not only that incase the student got enrolled to any college for ME /
M.Tech with valid score card will get a stipend of Rs. 8000/- per month .Qualifyying GATE is also
mandatory criteria for the award of Junior Research Fellowship. ME/ M.Tech is manadotry for those who
are wishing to apply for research position in R & D sections. Apart from these the GATE score card
remains valid for two years
The above advantages have pulled a lot of attraction of engineering students. Which raised the
aspirants number from 1.55 lakh in 2011 to 5.5 lakh in 2013 and even it touched 7 lakh in 2013. This
made it one of the toughest exams in our country for engineering students.
So in order to crack it, one night study concept of engineering student fails here. It needs rigorous and
steady practice throughout the year of practice of technical aspect, aptitude and English vocabulary.
GATE paper comprises of 65 questions out of which 30 are of one mark and the rest are of two marks
with penalty of negative mark on the wrong attempts made. Thats why advised not to bluff or guess.
GATE preparation can be easier with strategic study comprising of going through previous year question
and grading the topics based on mark weightage. It is advised not to rely on the single book for a topic
instead consults a couple of books. Then the reference or the textbooks can categorized into two ways ,
one dealing with fundamental concepts under study material while other with difficult and time taking
problem under the practice material. Books referred must be of reputed publishers and/or well known
author can be easily found in reference section of renowned coaching institutes website .NPTEL
resources and online test series are best way and/or couching and /or correspondence course can also
be helpful in keeping you regular with systematic study
Keep yourself updated with modification of pattern and syllabus of GATE.
It is too advised to attempt the one mark question first then aptitude and vocabulary and at last the rest
and at last less but sufficient time must be given to recheck the data filled by you in answer sheet
specially the registration id.
Concluding at the last it doesnt matter how fast you are going as the success demands steadiness
With best wishes.
